Hello all.
When the instant messenger gaimt wants to play a sound, I get the
following errors:
tcp_connect: can't connect to server (tcp:presario.localnet:1036)
unix_connect: can't connect to server
(unix:/tmp/ksocketu-gus/presario.localnet-220c-436955fe)
Could somebody explain what these error messages mean? The file
'/etc/services' indicates that port 1036 is reserved for ntssp (tcp/udp
Nebula Secure Segment Transfer Protocol). I admit I am lost.
TIA for your time.

Same here. Lspci shows it as " 01:01.0 RAID bus controller: 3ware Inc
3ware 7000-series ATA-RAID (rev 01)"
We are also running the 3dm software to monitor the card/RAID set.

I've got one of the 8506 series SATA RAID controllers running the stock
3w-xxxx driver with no problems so far - had more problems finding an
XP64
driver for it....

I supose you mean the 3ware 9500S series controllers.
I couldn't find any drivers for suse 9x 64 for the 8506 series.

We also use the 3ware RAID controllers for SATA. And have had no
problems with them.

Hi all
I'm using SuSe 9.3 on a Athlon 64 and trying to access the windows VPN
at work using the pptp client. I've downloaded the latest version of
the pptp client (the 9.2 rpms at the pptp site), and I'm seeing a
similar problem to this:
http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-amd64/2005-Jun/0045.html
Although in my case, the handshake goes well and the link seems to be
established. But then the entire system freezes completely, and my
only option is to hit the reset button. I don't think I've ever
experienced that with any of my Linux installations.
Has anyone heard about a fix for this? Does anyone know if SuSe 10.0
might work better?

Hello,
I got pptpconfig to work on 9.3 and 10.0.
Make sure you have IP forwarding set on the nic your using. Also check your
routes for your pptp connection.

Hi,
I've got a problem with NFS that appears to only affect AMD64 machines,
i.e. those running 64 bit linux.
Everytime these boxes boot up and try to mount NFS drives from our SLES9
server, they are presented with "Server reports TCP unavailable,
reverting to UDP".
So the first question: is this a problem with configuration of the
firewall on the server? Does it matter whether NFS uses TCP or UDP? (I'm
no networking expert)
On booting up, the 64 bit clients present you with the login page, but
users (whose home dirs are on the NFS mounted drives) are unable to
login, because the NFS mount commands have been backgrounded. I either
have to leave the machine for 10 minutes, before trying to login, or log
in as root and issue the command (mount -vat nfs).
Second question: why is the initial connection to the server so slow.
The next problem is that whenever I try to copy a large file from the
NFS mounted home dir to a local disk, the performance is abysmal. I.e.
it took 5 minutes to copy a 100Mb file.
Last question: what could be affecting the performance of NFS to make it
practically unusable on 64 bit linux, but absolutely fine on 32 bit
machines.
Best wishes,
Jon.

Hi Folks--
I've been meaning to ask about this but haven't got
around to it til now. My X.err logfile contains dozens
of instances of the same error:
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
Major opcode: 20
Minor opcode: 0
Resource id: 0x2a00002 (or another number)
...As well as a few others but one thing at a time. As
far as I can tell the error doesn't cause any harm,
but it just bothers me. Is there anything I can do to
fix it?
Thanks.... :-)
Hi, all.
I have been trying to install SuSe 9.3 on on an HP xw9300 workstation.
The system installs fine, but then it will not boot. When I try to boot
in the safe
mode I get a kernel panic. The system is a dual Opteron 248, 4GB of RAM,
and 2 SATA hard disks. I tried disabling acpi, but that didn't help.
A very similar problem was discussed on this list back in september 2005.
Has that been resolved by any chance?
Dima
Hi,
I am using SuSE 10.0. My ISP uses PPPoE w/ a specified service name. How can I
configure SMPPPD, so that is passes the service name to the underlying PPPoE?
Can I use the pppoe kernel module? Or should I install rp-pppoe?
Many thanks for any replies.
Greetings,
Mitko
Hi Dima,
you should boot with the DVD, start installation, stop it after choosing the language. Then "boot the installed system" and have the latest SMP !!! kernel from SuSE updates at hand.
Do a rpm -hiv <new kernel> in root, and then you should be able to boot again. I had had the same problem with a 2x2 Opteron xw9300.
Hope this helps
take care
