Suse 9.3 on HP xw9300 workstation: kernel panic!
Hi, all. I have been trying to install SuSe 9.3 on on an HP xw9300 workstation. The system installs fine, but then it will not boot. When I try to boot in the safe mode I get a kernel panic. The system is a dual Opteron 248, 4GB of RAM, and 2 SATA hard disks. I tried disabling acpi, but that didn't help. A very similar problem was discussed on this list back in september 2005. Has that been resolved by any chance? Dima
Hi Dima, I suggest trying pci=noacpi, however, you might have more success with SuSE 10, also with PCI=noacpi. Good luck, Odon On Wed, 2006-01-25 at 08:48 -0500, Dima Lisin wrote:

Try booting with the mem=2048m option, then do an online update to get the
latest kernel. I beleive that you need to have less than 4 GB for the
kernel that ships on the DVD, but once you are up, you can do the online
update and then things should be fine....
