Has anyone managed to get any DVD playing software running properly under
SuSE 9 for the AMD64?
I've got an ASUS K8V Deluxe MB and an NVIDIA GF5200FX video card, for what
that's worth.
I've been trying, with little success, to compile a working version of the
'Ogle' DVD player, but am running into all sorts of dependency issues with
RPMs, and missing library issues compiling from source.
If someone else has gotten this working, I'd be interested in hearing
exactly what RPMs/source files you used and what steps you followed.
Thanks in advance

Real programmers confuse Christmas and Halloween because DEC 25 = OCT 31
Has anyone else had success using the dvdauthor program
(http://dvdauthor.sourceforge.net) to create dvd menus? My efforts keep
failing with the spumux program (part of dvdauthor) failing with:
INFO: Locale=en_US.UTF-8
INFO: Converting filenames to UTF-8
ERR: Cannot convert UTF8 string 'buttonsone.png': Invalid or incomplete
multibyte or wide character
I've tried every variation of setting the Locale to UTF-8 or ISO-8859-1,
etc but no luck... Using all the same software on a older AMD computer
running a 32-bit version of linux, I have no problems... I don't know a
lot about character encodings, so I'm a bit lost here and am hoping
someone else with an AMD64 has gotten these programs working with SuSE
linux.
For what it's worth, I've tracked down the portion of the code that
fails (and produces the above error) to be related to a call to the
'iconv' program.
Any clues, hints, virtual kicks-to-the-head, etc would be
appreciated....

hello there,
i seem to have some bit errors in one of my memory modules on an asus
k8v-d with two corsair cmx512-3200ll (xms3205v1.2) ddr 400mhz modules.
memtest86 (on the suse linux 9.0) x86 media didnt recognize the
board/hardware, but still reported the same failures, as the newer
memtest86+ from http://www.memtest.org/
the memory module displays errors in test #5 at about 107mb and 123mb.
the other module passes the tests just fine.
the memtest86+ also supports the x86 platform, and correctly displays
chipset and hardware information of the newer boards and amd64 platform.
maybe suse will consider to include this into their amd64 products like
they have the older memtest86 3.0 on their suse linux 9.0 for x86 media.
thanks and cheers,
andy
.... I am getting close to trying to build an Opteron based machine as a
compute node on my LAN, set up to run w/o monitor, keybd, mouse, & not a
file server, just a (fast) CPU & lots of RAM. I have narrowed down to
either ASUS SK8V or TYAN Tomcat K8S (both available @ newegg.com). Does
anyone have any strong (preferably firsthand :-)) opinions, yea or nay,
about either of these boards ? Thanks in advance.
Has anyone got X running using the Nvidia AMD64 1.0-5332 drivers?
I compiled and installed the drivers according the instructions as supplied by
nvidia.
On my system (suse 9.0, k_deflt 2.4.21.201.x86_64, msi k8t neo fisr, athlon 64
3000, msi geforce fx5200) sax2 shows only a blank screen.
Thanks

OK, got my fnacy new DVD writer, and I'm able to mount CD-ROMS
on it, and I can (miraculously) play DVD videos using xine.
But I'm trying to get dvd+rw-tools to run, to no avail.
Things like dvd+rw-mediainfo and dvd+rw-format seem to work,
but when I try to write a simple ISO9660 image with growisofs
it ends with an I/O error message.
The long list of pointer/integer size warnings when compiling
the tools did not give me warm fuzzies. Has this worked for
anybody on an AMD64?

I am getting the following entries in the /var/log/messages file. The
entries are in reference to my 12 port 3Ware SATA RAID card. I tried a 11
disk RAID set (with one hot spare) which I've been told is not supported
with the kernel provided with SLES8. I've moved to smaller RAID sets, but
the system will still hang after writing more than 8GB to the RAID sets.
Please let me know if I have not provided enough information for this to
make sense.

Hi NG,
I have a problem with a 4 disk raid0 on a dual opteron tyan board.
When copying large files, the kernel reports 'scsi0 transmission error
detected'
Where do I start sorting out the problems? Software or hardware problem?
The board is a Tyan Thunder K8S Pro S2882, the drives are Fujitsu MAS3367NP.
OS is Suse Linux 9.0 64bit
The scsi controller is an on board aic7902w dual channel u320 scsi
controller. In the bios, I enabled the termination.
All 4 drives are connected to the scsi-a connector, there is a termination
board at the last drive and the jumper on the drive is set to provide
terminal power
I placed the complete error messages at www.lucienet.de/scsiprob.txt
Any help will be appreciated
Arno
Hi,
I'm getting the following error when trying to run the online update for
SuSE 9.0 professional:
Signature check for patch info file failed. Cannot load patch information.
Patch: fetchmstfonts-3
I get the same result from all the mirrors I've tried, as well as the
SuSE server.
I also tried running the update from a local directory from which I
removed the fetchmstfonts patch file. Yast2 then gives the same error
message about the lsh package.
