pvm 3.4.4 question

Dear All, I have difficulties to workaround an issue with setting up pvm 3.4.4 on an AMD Opteron box with SuSe 9.1. Before going into any details - I was wondering whether anyone had a similar experience. Rpm installs both pvm and pvm-devel packages cleanly. PVM_ROOT, PVM_ARCH are set and the path is updated. Starting pvm gives me the following error message: libpvm [pid17150]: mxfer() mxinput bad return on pvmd sock libpvm [pid17150] mksocs() connect: No such file or directory libpvm [pid17150] socket address tried: /tmp/pvmtmp017159.0 libpvm [pid17150]: Console: Can't contact local daemon The computer is not connected to the network and I don't use any firewall or hosts.deny settings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Robert ps.: using the same configuration files (except PVM_ARCH) the pvm 3.4.4 runs without a glitch on a Xeon box with Red Hat 9.0.

V830 / SLES9 SP1 /SuSE 10

hello *, just a question for my better understanding: On a Celsius V830: -SLES9 identfies SATA disks ( generic SATA ) as /dev/hdi /dev/hdk -Suse10 identifies the disks as /dev/sda / /dev/sdb can somenone give me a hint, why this different behavior ? Summary from a recent Posting re Celsius V830: -important is in any case to install the most recent BIOS -at the moment i do a test install of SuSE 10, this should work with those machines -SLES 9 / SLES9 SP1 in any tested variant, also with new BIOS for me resulted in error messages: hdi lost interrupt / complete slowdown .. thanks to all people who responded to my questions Micha

Celsius V810 /hdi lost interupt

Hello * Goal: install a Celsius V810 with SLES9 / ( SP1 ) The WS has 8GB Mem, two SATA Disks of different size Problem: Due to high frequent errors: hdi lost interrupt dma_timer_expiry dma status=0x24 the OS does'n boot ok ( about the first runlevel scripts finished after 12 hours ) The WS was booted for testing also in failsafe mode, same Problem A Debian 64 Bit did't even boot ... Can you re-use the same root system for the 64 bit kernel? I have been using the Ubuntu LiveCD for A64 and it runs great. However, it does not have the tohd= and fromhd= options from Knoppix installed. 2nd question is: How can you, using GRUB, boot off of an CD ISO on the root filesystem? Hi All, I have some problems with an HP Pavilion dv8000 (dv850EA) and Suse 10.0 in 64bits mode, i don't considere to use 32bit mode. Everything installs perfectly, but when y restart the computer, it hangs at first boot stage, just after the kernel is descompressed. Using NOPIC in boot options, the computer start but some things goes wrong : - The network card are initialised correctly, but no packet are sent to the net, even no answer to a ping from another computer. - cannot power off of reboot the computer Using the stock kernel (2.6.15 or 14), the network run (even the wireless and bluetooth & APIC) with some minors things. Problems with cciss? (possibly interacting with afs?)

Wondering if anyone else has seen any similar problems.. We've had several different hosts Oops and panic in the last couple of weeks, most of them several times. Every oops seems to be on a different process, but they all seem to relate to the filesystems... sometimes a reiserfs one, sometimes the afs cache filesystem which isn't reiser. The similarities between the systems are: - all HP hosts with smartarray controllers and 2 disks HW mirrored. - All running sles9-sp1 (with kernel 2.6.5-7.147 from suse 9.2 src.rpm... it had autofs4 patches we needed) and openafs-1.3.85. - Not all the same exact model of host, one is a blade, but it's also HW mirrored. We have a ton of similar hosts, but they're not mirroring disk, except our syslog host, which is doing raid-1+0 and isn't running afs. Wondering about possible bug between libafs module and cciss module. Working with novell on cases, but wanted to see if anyone else has seen sporadic oopses with similar hw. We're trying different things like updating kernel and catching up on openafs, but we have to do testing before pushing out to production so it takes time. What's really odd is one of the hosts that's having the issues was up for weeks without any problems, but has crashed multiple times in the last week. OpenOffice and suse 10

Hi, I have not been able to run openoffice 2 in suse 10(64 bits). The error message is 'no suitable windowing system found, exiting' I have seen in internet that a possible solution is installing libstartup-notification, but I have it installed(ver 0.8.8), both 64 and 32 bits, and still no luck. Thanks in advance for any help.

SUSE 10.0 with new Kernel, building modules

Hallo to all, i tried to install the new Nvidia-Driver both with YOU and by downloading and installing the latest release. During the Nvidia-Install-script i got a message like: The kernel was build with version 4.1 of gcc, kernel from 2.6 do not accept modules build by older versions of gcc. The installed version of gcc on SUSE 10.0 ist 4.02. I installed the kernel of the day 2.6.15-rc7-git6-20060102172536-default with sources. Is there a workaround? Thank you
