In order to make next game changing step for YaST GUI testing, we need to improve macro player functionality. After a nice discussion with Stefan Hundhammer and Chistopher Hofmann, we got clear that we cannot simply resurrect functionality which was there already as it's based on YCP, which YaST team wants to replace for quite a while. Our QA team feels fancy to help with the progress in order to get scalable framework for YaST GUI testing, including installer. However, as you have better insights, we need your help to decide steps to be done and split them to the items we can deliver during the sprint. This will allow us slowly moving forward. Questions to clarify before we start: 1) Will YCP be dropped in foreseeable future, if yes what shall be used instead? yaml+ruby? 2) Where to start? We could have a fork of libyui which is used for testing, or our implementation has to be secure not to introduce any new flaws In case we cannot get enough support and development is too heavy, we may use squish or ldtp, which have certain limitations, but will server the purpose. [yast-devel] find_minimal_failure: debugging the yast2-storage-ng test failures

Hi! The parallel_rspec tests in yast2-storage-ng sometimes fail randomly. Normally we could isolate the failure with "rspec --bisect", but that only works for Ruby exception failures, not for segfaults and other C++ crashes. Hi all, Another YaST sprint is over and it is our pleasure to offer a report which includes a wide ranging of topics: * The partitioner continues getting more love and attention: now you can partition your RAID devices and we have started to work on supporting Bcache. * A new YaST2 firewall UI is around the corner. * The self-update feature has been extended to cover more cases. * YaST supports now your brand new 4K display during installation. And, of course, some bugfixes (like proper handling of problems when trying to deactivate a DASD channel) and infrastructure improvements (check out our take on Travis caching). [yast-devel] nomodeset abuses new users and their supporters

Time and time again, NVidia gfx and Optimus users are unable to install without appending nomodeset to the installer's cmdline. cf. https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=822769 resolved feature No mention is made in that bug if a feature request was ever filed. The bug request was to make appending nomodeset easier for users. This trouble with installation is routinely followed by a new support request, to resolve problems either with low resolution video modes, or black screens, or both. e.g. https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/533157-How-change-screen-resolut… More often than not, resolving this failure means the helpers must explain that nomodeset needs to be removed from Grub configuration, and how to go about it, which means temporarily at the Grub screen, and ultimately via /etc/default/grub and grub2-mkconfig. IMO it would be much a better user and support experience, and ultimately better for openSUSE's reputation, that when the Yast installer finds nomodeset has been used to install that it *not* be preserved in /etc/default/grub. Agree? If yes, file this request where, B.O.O., or F.O.O? If not agree, why not?
