[yast-devel] PRG open doors SUSE event
Hi, next wednesday will be in PRG office SUSE open doors event. And I volunteer to show something about our work on yast/installer. And now I ask for ideas what you think that will be great to show to that visitors? I have few ideas, but if you have any it would be great inspiration for me. Hello Josef, I think that “remote installation (SSH, VNC)" and “autoyast” are a must. Kind Regards, Sergio-- To unsubscribe, e-mail: yast-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: yast-devel+owner@opensuse.org

- The storage guided proposal - YaST can propose the default partitioning automatically but you can define some constrains (keep/remove Windows, separate /home, etc) and leave YaST to find the solution for you. - The generic UI abstraction with GUI and TUI frontends. - The generic installer framework driven by XML file so we can have a different installer workflow with different defaults in SLE and openSUSE but using the very same YaST packages. - Maybe the firstboot module could be mentioned, it is not known well and it allows to configure a pre-installed system. - As a bonus or Easter egg you might mention the self-update feature, the installer is burned on DVD but we can still fix it later after the release :-) -- Ladislav Slezák YaST Developer SUSE LINUX, s.r.o. Yes, all of the above, including the other suggestion of the VNC/SSH install. And about the Easter egg: I sure would love to see that self_update=1 feature implemented for openSUSE, as well. I know it is a valid command, but I have only a vague understanding of why it is not implemented, doesn't sound like a valid enough reason to me. -- -Gerry Makaro openSUSE Member openSUSE Forum Moderator openSUSE Contributor aka Fraser_Bell on the Forums, OBS, IRC, and mail at openSUSE.org Fraser-Bell on Github -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: yast-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: yast-devel+owner@opensuse.org

Please, talk to the openSUSE team. AFAIK they do not want to maintain yet another
update repository for YaST. It requires some extra work like validation and testing
to not break something else. And I guess they do not have free resources for this.
But YaST itself supports the self update feature also in openSUSE, the installer is
the same as in SLE. From YaST POV adding support for automatic self update in
openSUSE is just a matter of adding
