This may seem like a dumb question, but should I enable IOMMU in the bios? This is a dual Opteron file server with a MSI K8D Master Mobo. I just noticed that it was disabled by default, and that it is used by Linux to translate 32-bit addresses to 64-bit addresses. Thanks, John Craig

gtop/ktop

One of the tools that I have used in older Linux versions is "gtop" with Gnome. I think "ktop" does the same thing for KDE - just a graphics version of the Linux "top" command. This doesn't seem to be available in Suse 9.0-64 (sorry, haven't upgraded to 9.1 yet). Any information on this? Thanks. ......Chuck

Temperature sensors

Hi, I would like to enable the temperature sensors. Motherboard is MSI K8D Master,. kernel is 2.6.4-54.5-smp, sensors-2.8.3-81 package is installed. I am not sure how to set up the sensors.conf file yet, although when I run the sensors command, I get the following error message: Can't access procfs/sysfs file Unable to find i2c bus information; For 2.6 kernels, make sure you have mounted sysfs! So, how do I mount sysfs? Thanks, John Craig

IPv6 issue?

Hi, I purchased SUSE9.1 Pro. It is very good. However, I have a question. It is that there is time lag, when seeing Web, since IPv6 is effective. The site corresponding to IPv6 tries to carry out a name resolution with IPv6. And after waiting for 5 seconds, failure is noticed, and a name resolution is carried out with IPv4. Then, I did try to abolish IPv6. It was not effective although the following was added to /etc/modprobe.conf.local. alias ipv6 off alias net-pf-10 off Now, name of ipv6.ko, netfilter/ip6_tables.ko and netfilter/ip6table_filter.ko in /lib/modules/2.6.4-54.5-smp/kernel/net/ipv6 is changed, and I avoided the problem of that. Aren't there any good idea? Regards, eshsf

good day all ... we have one of these systems from penguin computing. it has 8GB ram and a full complement of U320 scsi disks. i am having stability problems with every OS i've put on: SLES8/SP9.0 and SP9.1. the system seems to install correctly but always seems to fail on reboot the first time in a rather inconsistant state. has anyone been able to get this hardware config running under suse? the hdama bios is at 1.84 and the megaraid bios is G112 and the server bios is 3.6 i think. i could really use a sanity check on this one, thanks! -- michael

Update 8 to 9.1 via HTTP

Hi folks, He have a 2 way here without a DVD that we need to update to 9.1 as part of an eval for procurement. As a hack, I set up an webserver on the 4 way (9.1) to host the DVD as it's root. So, I told Yast that this was the installation source and disabled the other 2 CD's as installation sources (SUSE/UnitedLinux). So, then I did a system update. It was able to do a few packages and then failed on about 700 packages. Yast provided no clue why, but I'm sure it's a dependency issue. So my question is, how can I update this 8.0 box to 9.1 using a DVD in another systems drive? Thanks for any help. Phil

SuSE 9.1 and sil 3512 Raid (SATA-Newbie question) ...

Hello List, Has anybody got the sil 3512 SATA Raid Controller working under SuSE 9.1? I have to set up two identical machines, both athlon 64 Systems and I'm not quite sure if I understand the principle of Hardware SATA-Raid under SuSE. I configured the RAID (two Samsung SATA disks) with the RAID setup tool after Boot for either mirrored or striped mode, but when installing suse, it keeps telling me that these are two separate disks, which can be used freely no matter what is configured in the RAID Controller Setup. I guess I am lacking the right driver...? I found out that either "medley" and/or "ataraid" should be the modules needed for proper use. Is that right or which one is necessary for kernel 2.6.x? Are they provided with SuSe 9.1? Should i load them through a manual installation? Are there other HW RAID management tools with SuSE 9.1? Trying to get scsi working

My BusLogic card is detected, but I don't seem to be able to load the module. modprobe gives:- FATAL: Error inserting BusLogic (/lib/modules/2.6.4-54.5-smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/BusLogic.ko): No such device The file mentioned does exist at the given location, so why can't I load it? Thanks, -Richard
