Has anyone managed to get any DVD playing software running properly under
SuSE 9 for the AMD64?
I've got an ASUS K8V Deluxe MB and an NVIDIA GF5200FX video card, for what
that's worth.
I've been trying, with little success, to compile a working version of the
'Ogle' DVD player, but am running into all sorts of dependency issues with
RPMs, and missing library issues compiling from source.
If someone else has gotten this working, I'd be interested in hearing
exactly what RPMs/source files you used and what steps you followed.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I've parsed the archives titles but have not found anybody speaking
about MSI K8T Master 2 dual-opteron motherboard.
Basically, I want to know if someone has tested this board with SuSE 9.1
or SuSE Server for AMD 64.
Thanks for the information.
Olivier.
Hello list,
I have an Asus K8V SE Delux with AMD Athlon 64, one S-ATA harddisk and an
Adaptec 29160 wich is only connected to an DLT streamer. The system
works fine until I have updated the kernel to kernel-default-2.6.5-7.75
via YAST Online-Update. After this update the system hangs during boot with
"ReiserFS: hda2: checking transactions log (hda2)"
as the last message. There the system stands forever.
Booting with "Failsafe" doesn't works either, the system than hangs while
initializing the PCI bus.
I have then reinstalled the system without the adaptec and installed the
kernel-update. Without the adaptec, the systems boots without any problems
thereafter.
Is this a known bug? Any hints how can to get the Adaptec to work with the
updated kernel ?
regards,
martin

When I restart my computer (yes, I know, linux should be running all day and
night long), suse9.1 looses all sound-settings.
I have a VIA 823x rev60 (on board) with ALSA-driver. I have to delete the
soundcard, add it again (quick setup) and everything works fine again.
Is there a kind of "save-feature/button" I missed?
Thanx, Gery

One major problem is, the Suse 9.1 rescue mode is *missing the LVM drivers*.
Now that my system is repaired, I just tried to boot in rescue mode and it
doesn't work. It doesn't mount the LVM array, because it appears drm-mod is
not present.
If my diagnosis is correct, this is a serious oversight. I hope Suse will
issue an update to fix this.

I fixed it by selecting Redmond window behavior
(Configure Window Behavior->Redmond). It doesn't work
with SuSE window behavior selected (Configure Window
Behavior->SuSE). No xsession errors are logged:
$ cat ~/.xsession/errors
cat: /home/ranjit/.xsession/errors: No such file or
directory

Dear all
we have trouble on four of our opteron systems because of the latest
kernel 2.6.5-7.75-smp.
two of them doesn't reboot because of a missing
/lib/modules/2.6.4-52-default. We do not have this kernel installed
before. So this seems to be a bug.
the two others we have previously upgraded to 2.6.4-52 they were able to
reboot.
On all four systems yast2 recognizes a conflict with kernel 2.6.4-52.
(downgrade to 2.6.4-52 should be the solution)
Did you have seen this problem too and / or do you have an idea what is
wrong?
regards

Distro:
SuSE 9.1 x86_64-SMP
No updates applied.
Using 2.6.4-52 kernel sources.
Installed to regular IDE disk to do controller module build.
Hardware:
AMD Opteron System
3ware 9500S-8 SATA RAID Controller
Steps to reproduce:
Compile a fresh raid controller module using 3ware sources.
Successfully run insmod to install it to IDE disk.
(RAID array detection successful, ready to partition.)
Create update cd using new module.
Shutdown and disconnect IDE disk.
Power up and run a fresh install from the dvd disk. (target = RAID array)
(installation with ACPI disabled)
Select F6 to do driver update.
Load update cd when prompted.
select cdrom as update source in Linuxrc.
Linuxrc fails with the following messages after loading update:
insmod: error inserting '/modules/3w-9xxx.ko': -1 invalid module format
Other messages seen during install:
3w_9xxx: no version for "struct_module" found: kernel tainted
3w_9xxx: version magic '2.6.4-52-smp SMP gcc 3.3' should be
'2.6.4-52-default gcc-3.3'
1) It isn't invalid because I used module-init-tools 3.0_pre10-32 x86_64
from the distro disk to successfully load it on build disk.
2) I am installing to a SMP system so I shouldn't see this message at all.
3) Have no clue why the "struct_module" message appears or what it means,
couldn't find any information other than it happens to many people after
doing a search.
Now would the change to UTF-8 file encoding cause Linuxrc's insmod to do
this? Could it be that Linuxrc cannot load this module because it uses a
older version of module-init-utils?
Must I build boot disks from the installed system to use in conjunction with
the 9.1 installation DVD to allow proper loading of the module?
How can I get a x86_64 driver module loaded during first installation?
I am new to Suse used to use mandrake but they totally messed up their amd64
version. Anyway where is a good place to get new applications and kernel
updates? I would like to get a newer kernel that has support for my Treo 600
phone using the vision driver. Or where can I get the Suse config file for
the kernel and I will compile myself? I just like to keep the kernel config
as close to the distro as I can.
Thanks
