Hi all,
April 16-17 in Antwerp, Belgium, the Linux Open Administration Days will
take place. This free event offers a chance for LPI certification as
well as meeting and talking to linux sysadmins. There is a call for
presentations here: http://www.loadays.org/content/call-presentations
If you want to go and give a talk there about openSUSE tech - that's be
awesome. If you can't afford to go there due to travel or hotel costs,
let me know, we might be able to work something out ;-)
cheers,
Jos
Dear ALL:
I am Max from Taiwan -- openSUSE ambassador and GNOME foundaion member too. ^__^
It's midnight in Taiwan.
But I really happy to say "openSUSE and KDE will have one track( 2
days - 14 slot Presentations) at 18 - 19 Aug 2012 in COSCUP Taiwan" (I
am sorry, I just make sure the date and slot today)
What is COSCUP?
http://coscup.org/2011/en/
COSCUP is the largest annual FLOSS conference organized by local
communities in Taiwan. The conference has sessions for new users,
enthusiastic promoters, coders or anyone who is interested in
cutting-edge FLOSS technologies. The goal is to create a friendly and
informative environment for people from different communities to make
friends, learn new technologies and inspire each other.
Open source software is supported by 3 groups: coders, users and
promoters. This conference is aimed at all three groups. No matter
whether you are a new user, a passionate promoter, mature developer or
anywhere in between, you are welcome at COSCUP, the Conference for
Open Source Coders, Users and Promoters!
for COSCUP | GNOME.Asia 2010 and COSCUP 2011 there are 1,000 people
together. ^__^
This Year (2012) openSUSE and KDE will get involved with COSCUP.
We will have one individual track with 2 days. (About 14 presentaions)

To achieve somewhat our effort to consolidate communication channels,
you certainly remember the fact that we want to merge some of our
mailing lists.
I've seen a lot of cross-posting between here and marketing, and most of our actions need also more people involved as helper or
at least as witness about our actions in the wild.
Beside the fact that will avoid cross-posting, and so minimize the number of replicated messages you & I can received and then
need to read/archive/reply/delete and so free some of our precious time.
I would propose then that when we need a specific topic for our workgroup we just add
[ambassador] tag on the subject line.
So I open a poll on connect to know what we want to do
http://goo.gl/I5ReQ
Please vote before 29th February
Thanks

Dear communiy,
I would like to present you my idea how to spread opensuse at my university
departement.
I started my physics studies at 2007 at the Humboldt-University. In contrast
to the whole university, our departement uses Linux (Debian with KDE4) on
nearly every student desktop terminal. For a lot of students this is the first
contact with linux. Nevertheless the most students don't consider to switch to
Linux privately, although the benefits are geat (ssh to university, sftp in
Dolphin, easy latex, same applications, etc…).
My suggestion to show off how easy it is to install and use Linux (with
opensuse). My friend, who is supporting this event, already spoke with the
responsable IT office. We will get the opportunity to get direclty integrated
in the "computing courses for beginners" sessions, which are usually visited
by all new students.
Right now, I try to create with suseStudio an installable liveCD with special
software known from other courses preinstalled.
It would be awesome, If we could get some marking stuff from openSuse. I'm
thinking about maybe 5 shirts as prices (for people who installed openSuse
first on their laptops – or something like that), some posters with usefull
commands (I have one myself – very handy!), some promoDVD for people prefering
a more standard setup. Furthermore it would be amazing, if we could get some
(or better: a lot) of these openSuse branded pen drives to put on our own live
image.
Our presentation is going to be splitted into two parts. We will first show of
some slides. In the 2nd part we will assist people with their fist experiences
with opensuse and help more advanced users to install it right there. At
least, this is my inital idea. I'm open for suggestions.
I expect around 50 students to participate spread of two events happening on
different dates.
Beyond that, I'm in contact with some KDE contributors studying at both other
Berlin universities to create a joined effort.
Best,
Robert
Hey Everyone,
I just want to let you all know that Peter Linnell and I are working
on contacting the Linux Audio Conference (LAC) and organizing the
openSUSE presence there. Just to let everyone know where we are right
now: I will be contacting the good folks at LAC either tonight or
tomorrow (though I am going to try to contact them tonight). As soon
as I hear back from them I will update the list on the status. If we
have anyone is interested in the event they can check it out at
http://lac.linuxaudio.org/2012/ and let Peter or I know. I don't know
the format of the LAC as I have never been before, but as with any
event, I'd love for us to have a good openSUSE team representing our
community there.
Stand by for updates ;)

The CFP deadline slipped by me, apologies for last minute notice to you
all. But maybe we can still convince them to give space for talks if
you folks come up with something good.
Linux Audio Conference will be April 12-15 in Palo Alto at Stanford
University. If any of you are into audio or are a media artist, this is
a great place to go and promote openSUSE as well.

Hi,
just a little reminder, there is LinuxWochen in Wien coming soon,
deadline for talk proposals is 1st April and this year it's together
with Libre Graphics Meeting. So can be some big audience. But anyway,
any German speaker around? Venue looks great and I'm thinking about
participating myself, but I don't speak German (-) and I'm not great
with graphics (-). Any ambassadors in Vienna?

Hello Ambassadors
Please welcome Marcel Kühlhorn From Germany as our new openSUSE ambassador
Below is a little about Marcel in his own words...
> * What have you done already for openSUSE?
* Helping new users at Forums, especially http://opensuse-forum.de
* Helping out the german wiki-team
* Promoting openSUSE at my school, workplace etc.
> * What are your plans for promoting openSUSE? Please tell us what you
> want to do the next 6 months.
* Find new places where I'm allowed to spread the promo-materials
* Talk to local computer-stores if they would be willing to take some of
the promo-materials and give them to interested customers
* Find small local events where I can "spread the word"
> * Are you ready to start promoting openSUSE?
I think so since I already spread at least 50 DVD's and want to continue
spreading the word about openSUSE.
The only thing I can't imagine right now is giving talks since I have no
experience at all with that, but maybe some time in the future.
> * What do you think is the best kept secret of openSUSE?
Right now I can't really think about any secret of openSUSE, everything
in and around openSUSE is _open_.
> * Why do you love to do this?
Because openSUSE is a great Distribution with a great community I want
to help the people that make it possible for me to use openSUSE daily.
> * How did you start with Linux/openSUSE? What is your level of
> experience?
I started out with openSUSE 11.2 because Windows Vista ;-)
More seriously, I was interested in Linux some time before that but
didn't have my own PC to work with it, and that I'm with openSUSE now is
in debt to my mother who tried SuSE 8.2 a long time ago. So I first
installed SuSE 8.2 in VirtualBox on Windows, liked it, searched for the
actual Version and here I am.

That's one of the main reasons why I want to do this, I don't know of
any FOSS comunity in this region besides an local group of the
German-Amateur-Radio-Club where I suspect some Linux-users.

Hi Ambassadors
Please welcome Ershad Kunnakkadan, our new ambassador from India.
Below is a little about Ershad in his own words...
> * What have you done already for openSUSE?
I've just installed openSUSE today and have put its logo in my
blog[1]. Currently I'm thinking more ways to promote it.
> * What are your plans for promoting openSUSE? Please tell us what you
> want to do the next 6 months.
I would like to talk about openSUSE, distribute its iso image/disks in
local & college meetings, among friends and family.
> * Are you ready to start promoting openSUSE?
Of course, yes.
> * What do you think is the best kept secret of openSUSE?
Sorry, I'm yet to figure it out.
> * Why do you love to do this?
Reason #1: I want to contribute back to community
Reason #2: I liked openSUSE very much
Reason #3: I'm excited to see the vibrant community of openSUSE
Reason #4: I would like to help in making openSUSE better and hence
learning new things/
> * How did you start with Linux/openSUSE? What is your level of
> experience?
I started with openSUSE while trying to do small hacks around OBS. I'm
still working on that. I've been using GNU/Linux distros for 4 years,
I can do a bit of shell scripting and programming in a few languages.

Sure.

The people here are slowly switching from other operating systems to
GNU/Linux distros. I hope openSUSE will be a good option for them and
I can help them to use it without pain.

I'm from Palakkad - Kerala - India. And I've a small user page here[2]
in which I would like add more contents soon.
