Hi all,
At the office Robert Lihm together with AJ and Michl (on his last few days...)
have been working on assembling a nice PR kit which we'll send to our
ambassadors. One thing for the kit we thought would be nice was a 'PR-how-to',
basically taking some important info from the wiki like a how-to-organize-a-
launch-party and other things and putting it on paper.
I know that among others Manu and Kostas have been looking at that and working
on it, as has Gnokii and others. Would any of those (or someone else) be
willing to assemble a few of those things from the wiki (including talking
points, the how-to's, FAQ etc etc) in an openoffice doc and send it to me?
Just the text would be OK, Robert makes sure it looks good and we put it in
the PR kit!
Thanks in advance,
Jos
Hello my friends,
Sorry to disturb you with reports of our events :-)
This is our last for 2010.
The last 3 days (28-30 of December) we were at the event organized by
the web page xariseto.gr. This bazaar is for people who has some items
that they don't need them and can be used by someone else. They bring it
and leave them there and if they find something that they like, they can
take it, without asking or pay.
Our team was there to inform people about open source and openSUSE. We
talked to many people. One of them was the local news reporter that we
gave a PromoDVD and brochure.
For full report and pictures you can visit our report page:
http://opensuseambassadors.blogspot.com/2010/12/xarisetogr-bazaar-december-…
Well, that's all for now.
We wish you Happy New Year.
Warm wishes to all of you and to your families.

Dear all,
I am Rashedul Kabir from Bangladesh. I am a student of Computer Science &
Engineering at Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology,
Chittagong, Bangladesh. I love working with Linux. I have been writing in
Bangladesh Linux Users Forum in Bengali for a long time. I love openSUSE and
want to work to spread it in our country. We, the users of openSUSE are
trying to form a openSUSE Bangladesh community here. Hope we will announce
it on January 1st. We want to work with this nice Linux distribution and its
localization in Bengali.
Thanks to all.

Merry Christmas to all community.
We wish you all the best to you and your families.
A small team of the Greek openSUSE community decided to go on a
Christmas roadtrip. So we drove about 200km to join the teachers of The
Educational Computer Association of Florina at their event at the center
square of the city. The event had to do with promoting FOSS at school
and in general.
Local elementary teacher Mr Ioannis Kaskamanidis, asked his students to
join the booth and be the example of the results of FOSS in education.
Ioannis, took the advantage that the educational system provides, and
every student of his class has one XO.
We also met a local doctor, Dr Evangelos Tsoukas, who translated and
supports an open source software called openEMR for his job. We discuss
with him the openSUSE Medical distro.
Above all, we were happy that we could inform the locals for the
advantage of FOSS and openSUSE.
Althought it was a tiring trip for us
We did our job and we had fun!!!

Hi
Please welcome our Newest ambassador but an old member and a really
valuable contributor of the openSUSE Project, Nelson Marques, from
Portugal. Here is a bit more about him
in his own words.
* What have you done already for openSUSE?
1. I'm helping Remy Marquis implementing plymouth (stalled at the moment);
2. I'm building a software repository for openSUSE GNOME with Ayatana
software (Ubuntu indicators);
3. I'm maitaining some packages for GNOME:Apps and openSUSE:Contrib
sub projects.
4. I've done a shy talk about Marketing in OSC2010.
5. I give a lot of opinions no one likes and will run for 'openSUSE
controversial personality of the Year' soon.
* What are your plans for promoting openSUSE? Please tell us what you
want to do the next 6 months.
1. Promote the Portuguese Foruns and provide the base of our future community;
2. Support local events within University Campus only.
*Are you ready to start promoting openSUSE?
I think I'm doing that already ;)
*What do you think is the best kept secret of openSUSE?
My plan for Portuguese Community World Domination.
* Why do you love to do this?
I don't love, it's a requirement, someone has to place in the first
stone... that's me. I build the foundations, hopefully others will
follow to continue my work, so I can focus on the parts of the project
I really want to.
*How did you start with with Linux/openSUSE? What is your level of experience?
Back in 98/99 with SuSE Linux 5.2 (hanged around till 7.1) then
openSUSE 11.2 and 11.3. I've been also a Red Hat/Fedora user.
- Developed and built a outside kiosk based on openSUSE for a
Portuguese City Hall back in 2000/2001.
- Helped implementing on SuSE Linux 5.2 a management software for
firefighters built on COBOL. Tens of Fire Fighting Departments use
this in Portugal.
- Had been a member of a Portugal Telecom R&D unit implementing UMTS
services for the biggest mobile operator in Portugal and VIVO in
Brasil. Under NDA.
- Done some packages for openSUSE :)
*Also, as an ambassador, you're the expert on your country/region, so
please share on the opensuse-marketing mailing list a bit about the
openSUSE and the FOSS community in your country/region, e.g. what are
their needs.
NON-EXISTENT so far...

HI,
I think mentoring is not that important in this situation.
because interested contributors can join as an ambassador
and get to know the procedure and then they can apply for the membership.
BTW if there is a help needed to newly joined ambassadors they can raise it
in the IRC or mailing list. Then they are able to get more solutions for the
matter
without being centric to one person as in mentoring.
So i think this procedure is an extra burden and there are many things to
be done rather than mentoring. First I think it would be useful but now I feel
its not that important. One or two people can handle adding ambassadors to the
list. Answer to the questing can be posted to the mailing list. And if there is
any help please post it to the list and IRC.
That ll work well.
