My dear friends,
The rest of this year and next year some cool conferences are coming our way. As your humble community dude I have to plan my travel and I have to plan where to put my sponsorship money. Now who am I to decide that when you are the people who KNOW these conferences?
So I have talked with many peeps to assemble a list of conferences with some properties to help decide where to go and where to put in $$$:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Ap5dbL7kyNzAdDF0azhaZTJ0eVVzc2EyU1…
On a few conferences, I have specific questions.
First, FSOSS. Has anyone of you ever gone there, will anyone go? Can you tell me the size of this conference, how important it is?
Then the OpenWorldForum - very much the same questions...
LinuxCon Japan - who is going there next year? Will there be openSUSE peeps staffing a booth? Anyone up for that?
COSCUP (Taiwan) - same questions: who is going, is it interesting, can I help?
FOSSASIA (Vietnam) - same questions: who is going, is it interesting, can I help?
Linux Conference Australia - anyone going, I want to go and support it! But only if there is a openSUSE team there - otherwise, I can't do it alone...
SCALE next year? Anyone up for that?
FOSS.IN - same questions :D
CeBit - yes, who feels he/she could help out there? I'm interested in trying to get a booth there as I like the conference, but that ain't easy and I need help from you to have a good team and a good story for the organisation to allow us a booth...
One more thing. If you want to go to a local conference, but money is an issue, let me know. It is not easy to reimburse people for travel and hotel, but I want to try it anyway. So again, especially when it comes to the conferences above - if you want to go but just can't afford it, let me know, maybe I can help!
Take this chance, people, to make a difference and have some fun doing it! You are the local experts, I need your help in deciding where to go and what is important. Speak up!
Greetings and hugs,
Jos Poortvliet
On September 18, it is international Software Freedom Day. Software Freedom
Day aims to celebrate Free Software and the people behind it. It wants to
spread the word about Free Software and help people find each other.
We, the openSUSE community, of course need to be part of this! So this is a
call to you all: mark September 18 in your agenda. Check the Software Freedom
Day website [1] and find the meeting in your neighborhood [2].
If there is none, how about setting one up? Go to the Start Guide [3] and get
to work. You can organize your own event!
Of course, openSUSE will help you. If you plan to go to an event or organize
one, get in contact with us at marketing(a)opensuse.org ! If you mail us your
information we can send you a package with openSUSE Promo DVD's, a poster and
some stickers so you can be an ambassador for openSUSE at your local event.
Help us spread the word!
Greetings,
The openSUSE marketing team

In the last weeks we see more and more cross posting message between ambassadors and marketing list.
It become more and more hard to follow threads.
Can we try to stick strictly to one or the other ML and not both ?
Normally every people have subscribed to the both list.

Our team will participate to an event of the site-service
http://www.xariseto.gr.
Unfortunately there isn't English on this site.
What it does is people who don't need something, make a post there and
someone else who needs it, can have it for free. Everything must work
unless there's the post saying it's broken for replacements.
It's the idea of recycling.
So they organize an event, mass people can bring their things there.
Some people don't use Internet so it's easier for them to go there to
give and get things. They might have tv there too.
The event will be on 3rd of October, from 9-19.
They asked us if we can be there and inform people about FOSS (like SDF).
Kostas Koudaras will cover the event. I'll try to join him later because
I'll cover another event.
Andreas sent us promo materials, so we can cover it.
For the Greeks, the site of the event is the following

Hi all,
In december, FOSS.in will happen. In Januari there is LinuxCon Australia. I can most likely go to only one of these two events.
So tell me, what do you think, where would you go, a visit to what conference would have the most impact and help openSUSE the most? This ain't only about me giving a talk or not - it is also about what local openSUSE ambassadors are there, what they organize etcetera. So do you have any plans for either of these conferences? Or is there another conference in December or Januari that you think I should be going to?
Cheers,
Jos
