Hi all,
April 16-17 in Antwerp, Belgium, the Linux Open Administration Days will
take place. This free event offers a chance for LPI certification as
well as meeting and talking to linux sysadmins. There is a call for
presentations here: http://www.loadays.org/content/call-presentations
If you want to go and give a talk there about openSUSE tech - that's be
awesome. If you can't afford to go there due to travel or hotel costs,
let me know, we might be able to work something out ;-)
cheers,
Jos

the betapizza partie stuff :D
Hey Ambassadors
20 days left for 12.1 to be released and once again we have the
greatest Linux distribution to deliver to the world.
openSUSE did the best for us so it is once again the time to ask
ourselves, what can we do for openSUSE?
Are you excited?
Do you feel ready to go out there and evangelize our next release?
Do you know about the up-coming features of 12.1?
Have you blogged or wrote an article about it? Give us a link
Did you started preparations for a Release Party?
Do you have any fresh ideas we could work on?
Do you have any problems or difficulties we can talk about?
We are preparing for Google
Code-In(http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:GCI), you can contribute there
too(http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:GCI_Tasks), either by submitting
an idea or by becoming mentor to one of the tasks, what do you think?
Can you help?
What are your plans? Let everybody know
Let's Be Creative
Let's Share Thoughts
Let's Talk
What better time than now?
What better place than here?
Rock on and Have Fun with openSUSE

Hello,
I would like to discuss in private with someone from openSUSE on the
opensuse.ro
The problem is that a person has acquired this area in 2007 and uses.
For openSUSE user community can use it in Romania requested a sum of
money (attention: the use and transfer rights not by us).
I am interested in the regulator fields in Romania and I understand that
the situation can be solved simply if someone from the trademark owner
would openSUSE involved by completing an online form.
Who can I talk?
Best regards,
Lucian

Hey Ambassadors
Italy is getting even more active those days ;-), so please all give a
warm welcome to our new ambassador from India, Marina Latini from
Milan and Perugia
from Manipal.
Below you can learn more about her and her relationship with openSUSE
as she told us in her own words.
We have a couple of questions for you:
* What have you done already for openSUSE?
I'm a member of FSUGitalia and with Alexjan Carraturo, we promote
openSUSE during our events, expecially where schools are involved.
* What are your plans for promoting openSUSE? Please tell us what you
want to do the next 6 months.
In the next 6 months... well, we have a lot of events! the first is
the LinuxDay on 22th October in Milan.
The next ones will be the Document Freedom Day in March and the
Software Freedom Day in September.
our goals are the schools and the young students. we want to share the
philosophy and the importance of using free and open source software
so students are important!
* Are you ready to start promoting openSUSE?
sure!
* What do you think is the best kept secret of openSUSE?
I believe that openSUSE has nice community. All is clear. if you want
to partecipate you can read a wiki and find all the informations. the
operating system is stable, full of applications and well organized.
* Why do you love to do this?
I want to officially promote this distribution also because openSUSE
is a great product and in Italy we usually find only Ubuntu or Debian
or Fedora. the Italian Ambassadors are doing a great job and I want to
help them.
* How did you start with Linux/openSUSE? What is your level of
experience?
I started using openSUSE thanks to another Ambassador, Alexjan. during
a software freedom day he organized a meeting of the Italian
Ambassador and for me was a pleasure to speak also with Andrea Florio.
A great event with a lot of young students!
now I'm a good user and I'm trying to discover openSUSE's secrets. I
think now I'm ready to talk about openSUSE.

I have installed openSUSE and i've give support to a lot of students

* Are you ready to start promoting openSUSE?
Obviously yes!
* What do you think is the best kept secret of openSUSE?
maybe a fantastic version of KDE... I think that gnome 3 has a lot of

move to kde, and openSUSE
* Why do you love to do this?
Talk to public is a great experience, I love it.
* How did you start with Linux/openSUSE? What is your level of

I use GNU/Linux since 2001 'cause a friend of mine installed it on an
old pc... and openSUSE from 2009.

Hello all,
I worked with some staff here at the Bellingham, WA Attachmate office
and at Attachmate HQ in Seattle, WA to put on BetaPizza parties
yesterday for internal staff.
Since many Attachmate staffers are new to SUSE, openSUSE (and Linux in
general) we decided to do this first party internal only; we plan to
invite the community to the next event.
Here in Bham, we had a dozen people attend; Seattle had a bit more than
twice that. One of the local Attachmate devs (and an openSUSE user) and
I did a brief presentation introducing the GNOME & KDE desktops,
explaining the live media, going over some specific internal questions
(such as how to use Citrix applications), and introducing everyone to
bugzilla. After that we split off and did some installs, both live and
virtual, as well as some live disc runs.
All in all, we had 8 hardware installs, numerous virtual installs (on
VirtualBox & VmWare) and 20 people trying out Live CDs.
One of the largest issues we had was in virtualization, suprisingly.
VmWare does not include 3D acceleration, so GNOME users were "treated"
to fallback mode. VirtualBox 4.1.4 (the current release) for OSX crashed
when trying to run the beta w/ 3D acceleration. VirtualBox 4.1.4 for
Windows presented corrupt video & GNOME Shell crashes when using 3D
acceleration.
Other than that, things went relatively smoothly, and I even learned a
few things myself (like how to install firmware blobs for broadcom
wireless), and everyone "ha[d] a lot of fun!"
We're looking forward to doing this again for 12.2 :)

I just want to let everyone know that the Southern California Linux Expo
(SCALE) is having a contest to "Design a logo for SCALE 10X, win a trip
to LA!" In other words they if you can make a cool SCALE 10X logo and
they like it, they will pay for you to go to SCALE. There is a lot of
skill and creativity in the openSUSE community so give it a shot if you
are interested in trying. You can read all about the contest rules and
such here:

Good luck,
