SCaLE 11x announcement

Hey everyone, The 11th annual Southern California Linux Expo (SCaLE 11x), is just around the corner. I have already been in contact with the fine people at SCaLE and secured our booth. They will be getting us our Exhibitor=92s Kit soon enough. I would like to put some feelers out in the community for interested community members that would like to help work the booth. I have informally spoken to a few local people who have expressed a desire to help, but I would like to formalize those discussions by bringing them on-list. Also, I know there has been some ideas tossed about... Ideas like, getting a custom "openSUSE Project" banner, and having some videos looping showing off the different desktops running on 12.2. If we are serious about doing ideas like these, we need to start planning and, more importantly, acting in preparation for SCaLE. SCaLE is going to be on February 22-24, 2013 at the Hilton Los Angeles International Airport Hotel. I am looking forward to working the booth again... I hope we get some new faces working the booth this year too. DVD's per person

Heya, I've got a question for you, experienced and less experienced ambassadors! If you go to an event with openSUSE DVD's, how many DVD's do you need per visitor? So, say you have 500 visitors, how many DVD's do you need? 200? 300? 100? And does it make a difference if you also have other things, like stickers, posters, t-shirts and such - do you then need less, or more DVD's? I'd love to hear some of your input on this. Hugs, Jos

Dear ambassadors and other marketing folk, If you've read my blog you know why I have been rather quiet lately. But I did work: in the last weeks I collected a big list of our events to help us in the openSUSE Team in SUSE decide how and where to put our effort. While going through that list, I found all these awesome reports and blogs. A really cool highlight is one made by Marina Latini from Italy about the Cerea Fair: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Cerea_Fair There is a super cool youtube video of the event and a link to a big blogpost and many images! But many of you did awesome as well - images, blogs, lots of stuff. And I want to say a big THANKS for that - it made my day :D Logs of hugs, /Jos

Farewell

Dear All, After a few active and one inactive year I have decided to resign from my openSUSE Ambassador position. It was an amazing journey but I am not that energized in the Ambassador field that I should be. I am more than happy to welcome Peter Czanik in the same position in Hungary. Peter is a very nice person and he could add new and much more energy into the Hungarian community. I will not disappear. I would like to keep working on the Hungarian localization in the future. CzP at Virtualization Day, Budapest

Hello, Today I was at Virtualization Day (vday), a one day conference about virtualization in Budapest. There were about 160 attendees, mostly system administrators and integrators. The website of the conference is Hungarian only: http://vday.hu/ This is an event, which I did not yet plan to join as openSUSE ambassador, as I was there as the employee of one of the sponsors, and helped their work. But it turned out to become my first "ambassador" event, and it was a really nice experience. As I still don't know, if I'll receive 12.2 DVDs on time for the 8th December FSF Hungary conference, I accepted an offer of ~25 openSUSE 12.1 DVDs from a Fedora ambassador, who attended vday and maintained a Fedora stand (don't ask me, how he got them, I did not ask him :-) ). The DVDs were put on the Fedora table, and within two hours the last DVD found a new owner, even before I could rescue a few for the next conference. And people were asking for more... Also, I was approached by a few openSUSE users during the conference, that they are very happy to see someone again being at events and trying to organize the community and asked for a 12.2 release party ASAP, as we had for the last few releases. How do you Feel about openSUSE Connect?

Hey ambassadors For a while there is a small survey that is running for openSUSE Connect [1]. You should give it a try if you did not already. I hope that you all know by now what openSUSE Connect is, if not feel free to join[2] and play with it. openSUSE Connect is our community's social media. It is made under the ELGG Open Source Social Networking Engine and our people who are working on it make really good work putting a lot of efford to it. Now as Ambassadors it is our duty to let the rest of the community to learn about it and join in, so you are more than welcome to spread the word around. For ambassadors that are now builting local communities is a tool that could solve most of the communication problems that you might have, especially if for some reason you don't want to create a local Mailing List or a Local Forum at http://forums.opensuse.org/ . Last but not least don't forget to Join the Ambassador Group on Connect :D . In there soon there will be some exciting news about the Ambassadors. I like it because there is some real value is having some movement at the booth and something that people can stop and watch if they are having an introverted moment and don't want to stop and talk to one of us. Also, it could give them some food for thought to form some questions to ask us, or spur their curiosity enough that they grab a promo DVD, or even just checkout opensuse.org later. It can also be great as something to connect with people over -- a conversation starter. If you would like some help, I can use recordmydesktop to show off KDE at least (I have been using KDE since late 2003, so I know my way around fairly well). Hello, I finally have moment that I can write this, my name is Daniel after talking with Drew (who brought me on board with openSUSE) I am planing on working Scale this year. I am wanting to give back to community by helping create a few videos that can be playing at the booth. I need a contact in the Art department who is willing to help me if I need any artwork to help with the videos. I was think three videos: 1. One showing off the different desktops. 2. Showing off the different sub projects for openSUSE (IE obs, openQA Ect). 3. showing off the new features of 12.2.......I am also open for suggestions.
