Hi all,
April 16-17 in Antwerp, Belgium, the Linux Open Administration Days will
take place. This free event offers a chance for LPI certification as
well as meeting and talking to linux sysadmins. There is a call for
presentations here: http://www.loadays.org/content/call-presentations
If you want to go and give a talk there about openSUSE tech - that's be
awesome. If you can't afford to go there due to travel or hotel costs,
let me know, we might be able to work something out ;-)
cheers,
Jos
Dear Paulo,
By the way, for some time I was thinking to do an openSUSE event,
could be an launch party, in Cristo Redentor. Do you know if Is there
any chance to have a nice openSUSE launch party on top of "Cristo
Redentor", http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_the_Redeemer_%28statue%29,
Will be cool to be the first distro to do an launch party in one of
the New Seven wonders of the world,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Seven_Wonders_of_the_World#Brazil ,
I have some posters, and we can order some DVD's, flyers and stickers
to make this event happen.
What do you think? Is this possible?
Welcome again to this amazing team
Best "geekos" regards

{ATTENTION} Please pass this a long to your friends that this might effect/
Sorry for the cross post but I want to make sure everyone knows that
we will be updating the Facebook following openSUSE Group.
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=762429462#!/group.php?gid=2256834487
Once we update to the new group format, all currently a member will
need to rejoin. We currently have over 5,500 members, and there is no
away I can re-add all. I want to make sure all know, that the group,
isn't going away, but is being upgrade to the new format. This was not
our choice, Facebook is archive all the old groups and forcing us to
the new format. . While I know many may not be a member of Facebooks
or this group. I want to make sure what all know about this change. If
you have friends that use the group, please let them know.
I will be making this change tomorrow night at 02:00 UTC..
Again, I am sorry to cross post, but I know a lot people don't sign
up to all the list. Thanks you for your time.

Hi folks!
I'm just putting the final touches on an article about contributing
(yes that same one I started aeons ago) and need a quote from someone
about TRANSLATING for open source projects.
If you've done any kind of work with translating news, wikis, and so
on, please share. The aim is to encourage people to come and help,
especially those with limited technical ability who might think they
have nothing to offer. So it might include things like how you choose
what items to translate and what not to do, how information is best
presented (for example in an own-language newsletter or website),
collaboration, problems that you encounter (for example with idioms or
technical language) and importantly, resources that translators can
access to help with their work.
I'd be really happy with any comments you might like to make - I only
have about two paragraphs to devote to translation for this article
(it might be worth doing a full-length article in the future, with
proper interviews with people) so I will probably have to edit
comments for brevity.
BTW please include your full name if it isn't in your sig, so I can
make sure I credit the right people.
thanks heaps
Helen

Hi Ambassadors
I am trying to improve and make richer the
http://en.opensuse.org//openSUSE:Presentations page so I would like
your help.
Basically I need you to send me your presentation slides or anything
relatively to that, especially the non-English ones. This is a good
way other ambassadors who speak the same language as you, to benefit
too from your work.
Making easier for someone to make a presentation usually means more
presentations ;-)
Have fun

I think it might be a good move if training and certification were
offered free to Ambassadors. Something like the Certified Linux
Administrator. I think it would be a huge boon to assuring competent and
helpful community. Thoughts? Can we harass Novell about this idea?

Hello Mates!
On May 14 2011, we joined the calling from our friends from the web
page xariseto.gr. They had a bazaar in , Thessaloniki, New statue
K.Karamanlis (40.622943, 22.951405 in google maps).
Xariseto is a festival where people meet and donate their personal
belongings which they don't use any more. So as a Linux and openSUSE
community we thought that participating in these kind of festivals is
really interesting.
Me and Efstathios Iosifidis set up a booth in order to inform people
about FOSS and openSUSE project. We had all the related stuff about
Gnome and
openSUSE project around the booth (DVD's , Cheat Sheet, flyer).
Many people asked us about the project, but let me inform you abou
these interesting questions...
1) What do you offer? What is openSUSE and FOSS?
2) Can i install openSUSE on my PC and also can i use my mother language?
3) Is it difficult to use?
4) Can i use openSUSE in order to write documents , watch videos ,and
surf in the net?
5) Where can i found help and more information about the project?
6) In the past i installed SUSE 6.0. Now can i install and use the
openSUSE at the same way? (that was one of my favorite questions)
7) My daughter owns a netbook Ubuntu Linux installed, can i install openSUSE?
8) Free Software means Free language? (this question remind me Richard
Stallman's quote " Free as in Freedom")
So what did we have? What did we present in Xariseto Festival? Why did
we take part in?
* Event Date: May 14, 2011
* openSUSE Ambassadors: Efstathios Iosifidis, Rousinopoulos Athanasios-Ilias
* Event Details
o Tell us about the event, What did you do? We were informing people
about FOSS and openSUSE project. It's a good opportunity to pass the
word since it's crisis and people cannot buy new computers or
software.
o How many DVDs taken and distributed? About 60 DVDs. We also used the
file Greek help flyer
o How many people were there at the event. Uncountable.
o Did you have a booth? Yes
o Who staffed the booth? Efstathios Iosifidis, Rousinopoulos Athanasios-Ilias
o Would you go again? Yes of course!
o What more can you do to make it better?
Furthermore i would like to mention that people from all ages (i could
say from 7 years old to 70 years old) asked about the openSUSE project
, some of them knew about Linux and FOSS , and others found
interesting the idea of using an open source, free software and safe
operating system for their pc's , as well as to redistribute it to
other people.
You can find the photos of the event here :

Hey,
I agree with the idea of making free courses for ambassadors. But I see
the problem too. In my opinion, it's not on behalf of openSUSE to have
several ambassadors who just sign up and then aren't heard any more.
I believe, that an ambassador should run through a similar process as an
openSUSE Member has too. Every ambassador should apply for the post e.g.
at the newsletter or the website and has to get at least a certain
number of supporters of his or her ideas to become ambassador.
That would raise the quality of the post of an openSUSE ambassador!
