Annual Technical Festival 2011

I am pleased to inform the entire community that I am organizing the Annual Technical Festival "Protsahan" of my college 2011. We are actually planning to promote opensuse as many colleges are attending this event. We are planning to organize the following Events to promote opensource and opensuse in particular 1.) C Coding using GCC 2.) Designing using GIMP 3.) Open source Workshops 4.) Technical Sessions 5.)& Many more .. all using openSUSE Linux. I, as an Ambassador had organized an event to promote opensuse to mark the Software Freedom Day. But this event is bigger in nature than the previous one and we are expecting around 1000 participants. So I am requesting 600 opensuse PromoDVDS with atleast 5 T-shirts and stickers any number feasible to meet my needs. opensuse DVDS may be of 11.3 version. I am also requesting any 2 experienced opensuse Ambassadors from India Region to come forward and help me co-ordinate this event . The event would be from 14th March - 16th March 2011. The Ambassadors will be provided with to & fro AC 3 Tier Tickets in Indian Railways. Detailed report will be submitted by me after 10 days of the Fest . About opensuse 11.4 and Flisol

Hi! The FLISOL is near(April 24), In Nicaragua we are preparing for this event, and try to promote opensuse and free software, I'm Planning to give a conference about opensuse 11.4, and the LUG of opensuse-ni are planning to have the release party of 11.4 in this FLISOL. Impromptu LCA2011 openSUSE survey

Hi All, A week ago I decided to run a little survey of attendees at the recent LCA2011 conference in Brisbane, Australia, to try to get a vague idea of how many use openSUSE. The original post is at: http://lists.followtheflow.org/pipermail/chat/2011-February/002002.html Here's the results (I suspect the number of members of the LCA2011 chat list is less than half the number of conference attendees, though possibly not by much). There were a total of 15 respondents. This list currently has 322 subscribers (possibly one or two more at the time the survey went out), so that's about 4.6% of people who responded. Note that I assumed the survey would be skewed towards possibly being ignored by non-SUSE users, given its nature. Total numbers are as follows. Excepting location, figures for each question come to more than 15, due to multiple answers being provided: 1) I live in: [12] Australia [ 2] New Zealand [ 1] Somewhere else 2) I regularly use: [ 7] openSUSE [ 5] SLES/SLED etc. [11] Anything else (i.e. a non-SUSE-based distro). [ 2] nominated Fedora as their "Anything else" 3) I use a SUSE-based distro because: [ 7] I like it. [ 5] My employer makes me do it. [ 6] WTF? I answered "Anything else" above. Give me a break. [ 1] "It has the best professional support currently available on the market" (added by one respondent) Perhaps unsurprisingly, there appears to be some rough correlation between: openSUSE -- I like it (6) SLES/SLED -- My employer makes me do it (4) There is also some small overlap between the "like it" and the "employer makes me do it" set (3). Also: - 4 respondents use something SUSE-based, *and* other distro(s). - 6 respondents don't use a SUSE-based distro at all (in case it wasn't obvious from the "WTF" answer above). Hope that was all somewhat interesting. FLISOL in Venezuela

Greetings People! For the ones that doesn''t know me I am the only ambassador currently active here in Venezuela for all the openSUSE related things, spreading the geeko word in every event that I assist as a Security Consultant, and of course using only openSUSE to teach my classes around, so it has been a lot of work, but i just love the our distro... ^_^ Now, to the point: Here in latin america, will be celebrating the FLISOL [1] Festival Latinoamericado de Instalación de Software Libre (Latinamerican Festival of Installation of Free OpenSource Software), and of course Venezuela [2] its already in preparations to join the festival. I'm located in Mérida, and already put my participation with a conference and helping with openSUSE related. The last year we got marketing material to gift in the event, like plushies, stamps, dvd's, live'cds that @tatadbb (Maria 'tatica' Leandro) and I distributed in all the country so all the places get material and openSUSE presence. Now I ask ¿can we get some of these material again? before April. As an ambassador, i gift a lot of that material not only in FLISOL, in all the events that I assist always bring the geeko force with me, but the material of last year its already done, so will be great get new for the FLISOL in this year. KDE Release Party

Last week in Larissa LinuxTeam hosted a KDE Release Party for 4.6. The event was listed in the KDE promo's wiki page, (link) hosted in the university and there was a presentation about the new technologies and renovations of KDE 4.6 in which a member of the Greek openSUSE community Giorgos Tsiapaliokas was one of the two main speakers, the other was (το ονομα του Gentooa) from Gentoo Greek Community. Of course Ι was there along with Kostas Koudaras and Stathis Agrapidis(another active Greek community member) who came from Thessaloniki in order to attend the speech and spread the word about openSUSE 11.4. We also had set up a booth with stickers, flyers, openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 6 KDE live cds, openSUSE 11.3 dvds, my netbook with openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 6 and some KDE promo material(stickers and badges) from the KDE e.v. which by the way I want to thank them for it because they managed to send me the promo kit on time. We talked about the new technologies of openSUSE 11.4, met new people and had fun. After the event we went in a local tavern with LinuxTeam members, ate local food, drunk some tsipouro (local drink) and continued our talk about communities and Linux in general. This is great because it extends the life of the PromoDVD (when we still have probably yet another month before we can get a new batch pressed) and also helps to educate people about how great and easy it is to do in-place upgrades of the current installation.
