Hi all,
Thanks to the response of my urgent call for volunteers, we've been
able to go ahead and arrange a booth for LinuxTag, which this year is
happening May 22-25.
We could still do with more volunteers to help with the booth. Anyone
who volunteers to commit a significant amount of their time helping at
our booth is eligible for a FREE pass to the conference (a saving of
€50 for a 4 day ticket)
I have to be the one to book the Exhibitor pass for you, so please
*email me* if you're able to attend and in need of an Exhibitor pass.
I intend to book the first round of tickets for volunteers on Friday
12th April - if you do not volunteer by this date, I cant be sure if
I'll be able to arrange an Exhibitors pass.
Once you've let me know you're volunteering please update the wiki
page here https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:LinuxTag
This page is where we're keeping all the event information together so
everyone can be sure what's going on.
For those community members who might need additional financial
support in order to attend, I suggest you consider applying to the
Travel Support Programme:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Travel_Support_Program
Please make sure you get an answer from the team before booking any
travel or hotel, but don't delay in letting me know you're willing to
help :)
Many thanks, and here's hoping for a typically great openSUSE presence
at LinuxTag in just under 2 months! :)
- Richard

Hello folks,
I usually organize openSUSE events at the Universities or cybercafés
in Mauritius. Recently I noticed a growing interest in Linux around
the place where I live. I know this was surely after critics on the
Government spending MUR 50M on a website revamp based on Microsoft
Sharepoint. We could then see so many Mauritians screaming ‘why not
open source’ on the social networks. At the same time many more
Mauritians asking ‘what is open source?’.
Then last week I wrote to the President of Providence Village Council
(the village where I live) asking if I can organize an openSUSE
Workshop on their premises. The response was awesome. The president
phoned me and said he’ll be very happy with the event and would
encourage many people to attend it and learn about Linux :)
See the letter I sent :
http://hacklog.in/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/openSUSE-workshop-letter.pdf
So, I started with requesting some Promo DVDs. I contacted friends to
print posters and get some cloth banners. I’m still working on
graphics & flyers that we can use to promote the workshop through
social networks. We haven’t decided on the event’s date yet. Once
everything is decided and organized I’ll post on openSUSE event’s wiki
page.
For now I’m so happy with the response that I wanted to share with you all.
Regards,
Ish

Guys,
Thursday I gave a talk to 20 people at ALE, that the Atlanta Lug, this
was my fourth talk to them about openSUSE. I gave the talk State of
the Geeko, talking about how openSUSE is not just a distro, that we
have a lot to offer. The talk when very well. I had a bout 20 people
gave a about 100 DVD. A teacher from ITT was there wanted DVD for his
students.
Jos, storied for Ubuntu users could have come a better time. I have
sent to the ALE mailing list. Two distro that surprise me with
negative comments were Ubuntu and Fedora, esp. Fedora 18 installer and
Gnome.
I have sent my talk to the list.

Apologies for the cross posting, but given the deadline only being a
few days away I want to make sure this reaches as many potential
volunteers as possible.
As you may already be aware, LinuxTag 2013 is happening this year
during May 22 to 25 in Berlin, Germany.
Currently, it appears the openSUSE project has not organised a booth
for the conference, which I and the rest of the Board think is a great
shame, given LinuxTag is one of Europes largest Open Source events.
We're looking for at least 1 volunteer from the community to help
co-ordinate the openSUSE presence at LinuxTag, and ideally several
more to help staff the booth.
If you think you can help out, please contact me on email at
RBrownCCB(a)opensuse.org as soon as possible, and I'll do what I can to
help put the proposal together.
The deadline to apply for a booth at LinuxTag is March 22, so we
really need to get a move on if we're going to have openSUSE on the
showroom floor. Further details of the process can be found here:

Many Thanks and Have a lot of fun!

Hello my friends,
First of all, thanks and congrats to everyone for this great release.
As I mentioned before, 2 days before the release, I was in Serres for a
presentation.
SerLUG celebrates with a day conference.
I was asked to present how to use GNOME and what makes GNOME unique on
openSUSE.
Well, that's what I did. I present how to use GNOME 3.6 (and openSUSE 12.3).
It was very helpful for the audience. They were about 80% windows users.
I made the "silly" question how many use GNOME and only 2-3 hands went
up. The audience were about 70 people.
Anyways, I ended with the conefence promo. I told them what to expect to
see, why register now.
They gave me an idea to write down their names and mails, to contact
them directly how to register. I got a list about 40 people.
Next step is to contact them and guide what to do. I think it's was
great success so far.
I gave some "left overs" of 12.2, brochures where to find Greek community.
We also had a draw for a T-shirt, as gift for their celebration.
After the end of the event, we went to celebrate.
As the title of my report says, what happens in Vegas...sorry Serres,
stays in Serres!!!
Have a lot of fun...

openSUSE has a lot of Ambassadors. If you are one.Time to start
spreading the word. Or if you like to help us get the word out about
the new release. You can do via Twitter, Google+, Facebook, identi.ca,
Friend Feed, MySpace. Or any other social network your are on.
Please take any of the links, repost them, re-twit them, just share. A
lot of hard work has gone into this release, it now time for all the
Ambassador to do your work and proclaim the glory that is openSUSE to
the masses.
If you need help with what to share, you can ping me or leave a
message here and one will help. Or join us on Freenode in the
#opensuse-marketing room. We there for you.
All I am asking that each Ambassador or Friend of openSUSE, post
something to any of the social media for the next four days. Even is
just one post. That's one post that will help spead the word about the
release.
Also if you have launch party, please post here your evens so people
that live around you can join you.
I am recommending the hag tag #openSUSE12.3 and #OS12.3 along with
the regular hag tag of #openSUSE so we can track the twits.
Thanks -- Chuck "PUP" Payne a.k.a terrorpup Proud openSUSE Ambassador.

Hi openSUSE Ambassadors,
Alan Clark and I will be presenting some sessions at the OpenWest Conference (http://www.openwest.org/) -- formerly the UTah OpenSource Conference -- on May 2 - 4 2013. An interesting detail to point out to Ambassadors is that the former UTOS Conference grew too big, which is why the new conference is called the OpenWest Conference. The conference is expanding its regional presence to include more than just Utah.
Alan will be presenting "The Disruptive Nature of OpenSource Cloud".
Craig will give presentations on "Puppet" and "Securing Your Enterprise Server".

Hello,
On Monday March 11th, I'll be in Serres at their day conference. They
celebrate 5 years of SerLUG with the event. Their facebook event page is [1]
I was asked to present something for beginers.
So my presentation will be about how to use GNOME 3.6 and what makes
GNOME unique on openSUSE.
I'll finish with an openSUSE conference 2013 promo.
I have some 12.2 promo DVDs. Those are the last ones, since 12.3 will be
soon released.
I have some stickers and brochures about how to contact Greek community.
I hope I'll have some oSC13 promo as well.
The organizers didn't say about booths (since it'll be small). There'll
be a table that they'll put the promo material.
Take care
