The openSUSE Board invites the openSUSE community to begin planning an openSUSE event in North America

Subject: The openSUSE Board invites the openSUSE community to begin planning an openSUSE event in North America. Earlier today, SUSE delivered the exciting announcement of SUSECon, a SUSE annual conference, to be held in Orlando on September 18-21, 2012.[1] Additionally SUSE has reserved the conference venue through September 23rd and is offering the site to the openSUSE community for a multi-day openSUSE community planned event. A North America openSUSE event would not replace the openSUSE conference! The annual openSUSE conference continues to draw an increasing number of attendees, but many from North and South America have been unable to make the trip to Europe and have voiced the desire for an event a bit closer to home. SUSE, upon hearing of interest from several USA community members, was able to extend the availability of the September venue to the openSUSE community to develop and plan an event in North America. Creating an openSUSE event, co-located with SUSECon, creates an exciting opportunity to engage and further build the growing openSUSE community in the Americas. Volunteers from the openSUSE community are needed to plan, organize and staff the event. If you can help out in September, please attend the next openSUSE Project meeting on January 25th.[2] 2012 is an exciting year for openSUSE. Have a lot of fun! openSUSE @ FOSDEM 2012

Hi Guys! FOSDEM 2012 is nearly upon us, and once again openSUSE is going to be there in force. Our stand is going to be on the Ground Floor of Building K from 9am on Saturday 4th February till 6pm on Sunday 5th February As well as demonstrating openSUSE 12.1, we hope to be showing off the latest successes from the openSUSE ARM Team We're planning on having DVD's to give away, and T-Shirts, Beer and who knows what else to 'sell' for donations, with all proceeds going back to the FOSDEM organisers as a thank you for hosting this great event. We've already got a number of volunteers to help with the booth, but we could still do with more - we're expecting it to be really busy. If you'd like to lend a hand, either drop a message here, or email me at RBrownCCB(a)opensuse.org , or just turn up on the day and pitch in. The openSUSE community will not just be there at the booth though, if you take a at the great schedule posted on the FOSDEM site you'll spot several talks, sessions & devrooms that will have openSUSE people taking part. Exhausted but not done (it's 1 a.m. now), I have added a bunch of events to our wiki page at http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Ambassadors_events#2012 Please review the list when you have a chance and add more events. I know there's a lot more we can list here. The more we list and claim, the easier it will be to prepare for them and request funding/DVDs if necessary. If there is an event that is unclaimed, feel free to claim it. If there is an event that you cannot go to but you know there is someone in that area, contact that person and get that person to claim in the name of GEEKO!!! There are several more that I need to find out about and will add them accordingly as soon as I get further information.
