[yast-devel] Overcommit - automatic checks via Git hooks

Hi, I found a quite interesting tool called Overcommit [1]. It provides an easy way for setting up Git commit hooks and provides some basic checking plugins. The nice feature of the Git commit hooks is that you can run some checks automatically and early in the development. For example with the commit hooks you can run Rubocop check automatically whenever a commit is created. And if the check fails the commit is not created. I can see "make Rubocop happy" commits quite often (happens to me as well), with Overcommit you can easily avoid that. I have tried several Overcommit checks: - Rubocop - runs Rubocop at "commit" - Rspec - runs the tests before "push" - Branch blacklist - can forbid direct commits to configured branches, e.g. "master" (forces using pull requests, avoids commits to master my mistake) - Commit message spellcheck - warns when there is a possible typo Check my blog post [2] for the details, esp. watch the recorded screencast where I wanted to show some mistakes which it can catch. Hi all, some time ago we discussed where and how we should share "Tips&Tricks" for YaST users and developers. IIRC there was no clear conclusion so I decided to start a wiki [1] to collect all our tricks we know or use. For now it's just a place for dumping your ideas, links, short howtos, etc... When we collect enough data we can probably split it to several categories or move it somewhere else. We just need the data first. I have added there some my tricks from my personal "knowledgebase" file. [yast-devel] Starting a project: re-implement YaST keyboard

Hi, my name is Joaquín, maybe you remember me from 2016 Google Summer of Code :) In the lasts weeks I have been talking with Ancor, to do this project (https://github.com/openSUSE/mentoring/issues/79) The project is basically rewrite the YaST keyboard management module. I want to start the project now so I had talked in the IRC channel about how deal with project, and the best approach seems to have a branch in yast-country repository for this project and make the pull requests to this branch (called keyboard_rewrite) and when the project is finished merge this branch into master. [yast-devel] Enable Travis Auto Cancellation Feature?

Hi, Travis recently enabled a new auto cancellation feature. If you commit a new change Travis can automatically cancel the old builds in the queue. That means you should get the results for the latest change faster. See more details at the Travis blog [1]. To me it looks like a nice feature. The only drawback is that if you really use the strict TDD approach (write a failing test first then create a fix, like I did here [2]) then you would have to wait a bit between pushing the test and the fix. At least until the first build starts. But that is usually not the case is our workflow so it should not be an issue and we could use this feature by default. So any reason why NOT using the auto cancellation feature? Otherwise I'd enable it globally for all Travis jobs... I am trying to make a firstboot.xml file work. The biggest stumbling block is that I do not seem to find a description of what the various modules that firstboot.xml can call actually do. /usr/share/doc/packages/yast2-firstboot/index.html (from yast2-firstboot), for example, has this to say about autoconfiguration: 1.2.6. Using Automatic Configuration Since openSUSE11.0, installer does most part of the system configuration automatically, without user interaction. This feature is also available in firstboot stage. If you have the system installed and only partially configured (e.g. because of different hardware on your computers), enable inst_automatic_configuration step in the firstboot workflow. In the "globals" section of your workflow description file (firstboot.xml), define the steps that should be part of the Automatic Configuration process. For detailed information, see "Automatic Configuration" section of /usr/share/doc/packages/yast2-installation/control-doc/index.html file, part of yast2-installation-devel-doc package. I cannot find a package called yast2-installation-devel-doc (or one that looks like it may be a renamed package). The file /usr/share/doc/packages/yast2-installation/control-doc/index.html does not seem to exist in another package. The biggest problem I have is the Network stuff. No matter what the firstboot screen shows as the enabled steps, nothing related to networking is ever asked. Same thing for setting the Desktop. I am working through error messages in logs. But as I am using qemu this is a sloooow process. Surely the firstboot modules are documented somewhere? Not generically how to call them. I am trying to get the firstboot.xml 'firstboot_hostname' to work. It is the default file. When it should run, I get this error message: "undefined method `HostnameDialog`". I have looked around in /usr/share/YaST to see if there is such a thing. I see things like HostsMainDialog or HostDialog. But not HostnameDialog. This is on a Leap 42.3 image built with KIWI (OEM). All components are up-to-date. I suspect that I am missing an RPM. But none of them looked like they might contain this. /usr/share/YaST/clients/firstboot_hostname.rb is present. [yast-devel] Using YaST firstboot in KIWI

Hi, (I'm new here. I have looked for answers to the following, but seem not to know where to find them. Please be gentle...) I am building an openSUSE Leap 42.3 OEM image that, when installed, runs YaST firstboot stuff. I have done this for quite a few openSUSE releases without a problem. But I am having difficulty with doing so in Leap 42.3. I have discussed my issues with the KIWI folk, and they are of the opinion the the issue is YaST. Or, my use of it. These are the kind of issues I am encountering (not in order of importance): 1. It insists on being in character mode. I think I have all the X11/QT stuff installed. So I do not know why this happens. 2. It starts out by saying that /etc/ntp.conf cannot be written. Initially I did not have ntp installed. But then it failed immediately. Why it is trying to do anything with NTP before, say, I have configured the network, is a mystery. 3. It fails to run inst_hostname. I get an error and it says to let the YaST folk know. Then it dies. 4. At one point it shows a screen (so fast that I almost do not see what it says) that says Analyzing System. Then it immediately shuts down the system. Not a crash. But a proper shutdown. So I am not sure if the problem is my firstboot script, or some missing packages. Where to start? I can provide my firstboot script. Or information on installed packages. Hi all, I have been using the Tampermonkey [1] Chrome plugin for several months (it's a Greasemonkey clone if you know that from FireFox....) and I have written several user scripts related to the tools we use. I found them quite useful so I'd like to share them at least across the team. If you are new to the browser user scripts then read the "Userscript Beginners HOWTO" document first [2]. My scripts implement the functionality which I really miss, hopefully you will find them useful as well. See the README with screenshots and more details [3]. What I have implemented so far : - Relative time for Bugzilla comments (like "2 hours ago" or "5 months ago" displayed next to the standard time stamps, improves the date reading a lot!) - Highlight your comments in Bugzilla (to make easier to find when/where you already commented) - Bugzilla redirection - avoid the "Access Denied" page and logging in when displaying bugzilla.opensuse.org although you are already logged in bugzilla.suse.com - Converting Bugzilla / FATE Numbers to Links - converts texts like bsc#123456 and fate#123465 to clickable links pointing to the respective bug or feature, works great at GitHub - Create Submit Requests Links in Jenkins - converts the "created request id 123456" text in the console log into clickable link pointing to OBS or IBS request - Bugzilla Trello integration - (the most complex script I have written so far) loads the relevant data from Trello cards directly into Bugzilla, can create new Trello cards directly from Buzgilla (implements the ytrello [4] functionality directly in your browser!) If you are interested in more details I could create a short presentation or live demo (probably at the end of some daily call). Also if you have your own scripts you could share them here as well. In addition, YaST will always create the partitions needed for boot. But that's not configured via control.xml because the partitions needed for boot depend on too many factors and are independent of the product. We would like to prevent mess with CaaSP1.0 in git, so we do development in SLE12-SP3 branch 2. changes for CaaSP2.0 is not reason to create maintenance request so do *not* use osc:sr 3. instead use `rake osc:commit` to submit to our SP3 devel and then osc -A https://api.suse.de/ sr Devel:YaST:SLE-12-SP3 <yast2-country> SUSE:SLE-12-SP3:Update:Products:CASP20 where yast2-country replace with module you want to submit. [yast-devel] Observation from installing SLE-15 with new storage

Hi, just quick observations from my installation with leanos 15 with new storage. I am not sure if all issues are known, so if you mention which one is not known, I can try to report it with proper logs. 1. clean 20 GiB disk. Proposal is something that I do not like, so I use guided setup. Config is trivial XFS for root and no separate home -> result is 10 GiB for /, 2GiB swap and 1MiB BIOS Boot, so almost 8GiB is unsed. If I choose btrfs for / it works fine. 2. main screen missing Edit/Delete/Add buttons, so I need at first pick it from tree ( quite annoying in ncurses ) 3. manuall remove all partitions, then -> Add -> Custom size 1 MiB -> RaW Volume -> Bios Boot Partition ---> It creates 20 GiB Bios Boot partition! 4. resize of partition not possible Result now is that I cannot configure disk how I want due to combination of this bugs ( ideally BIOS Boot + largest possible root without btrfs ). [yast-devel] no auto-submit to SLE-15

Hi, I was asked to help with merging storage-ng into SLE-15 where is problem that we send packages so fast, that it is hard to merge it. So I temporary disable all internal jenkins workers and no automatic submission is send. It will be in queue, so when I enable it again, everything should be send as usual.
