[yast-devel] An interesting Ruby exercise for a Friday

As part of the re-implementation of the Encrypted LVM proposal I needed to store a password inside and object, but I didn't want to simply do class SomeClass attr_accessor :name attr_accessor :password end because I felt it was relatively easy to leak the password to the logs accidentally just by doing log.info "A something object #{an_instance_of_that_class.inspect}" Redefining #to_s and #inspect for every class containing a password is cumbersome and error prone. So I decided to create an alternative to attr_accessor with the same behavior but with enhanced protection against leaks. So you can do class SomeClass include Yast::SecretAttributes attr_accessor :name secret_attr :password end And all calls to #to_s, #inspect are safe. Even using formatters like pretty_print or awesome_print should be safe. Here is a gist with two possible implementations. I would go for the first one because is "less magic". But I also wanted to share the second alternative because I consider it to be an interesting Ruby exercise (redefining methods at instance level). https://gist.github.com/ancorgs/3a9c08313cc0ed52cc759ac94b21fa56 Do you like it enough to be included in yast2 or should I keep it just in the y2storage namespace? [yast-devel] Proposal for new desktop dialog in installation

Hi Ken, Ludwig, YaST Hackers, I work on providing new desktop selection dialog in installation according to https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/14936 . So after some tweaking and thinking I reuse roles dialog same as we had in SLES, just with desktop selection. You can see result in https://github.com/yast/skelcd-control-openSUSE/pull/73 ( screenshots and videos ). What do you think about it? I welcome any feedback. I add there to comparison also old work-flow where is one screen with online repos which we currently integrate in desktop selection. [yast-devel] Wizard buttons mess

Hi developers, I was again hit by issue with enabling disabling buttons in wizard and also its renaming and having six parameters to all wizard dialogs are wrong from API POV. So what I proposing? Create configuration class that have names and enablement for all buttons in wizard, reasonable defaults for it and can be passed as argument or apply to wizard it itself. so instead of def InstDialog(enable_next: true, enable_back: true, enable_abort: true, next_label: Label.Next, back_label: Label.Back, abort_label: Label.Abort) will API look like def InstDialog(buttons: DefaultButtons.new) What do you think? [yast-devel] Added "source_validator" check at Travis

Hi, this is JFYI, I have added a new check to the Travis scripts, from now on they additionally run the "source_validator" [1] check. This should find all .spec and .changes issues (like a wrong date order in .changes) which would be found later when the package is build in OBS. See more details in the PR [2]. The same change was done also in the other Docker images. BTW after switching to Docker at Travis we can easily run additional checks without the hassle of the Ubuntu packaging... If you have any idea for an additional check which we could run at Travis just let me know.
