[yast-devel] Drop *-devel-doc YaST subpackages?

Hi all, currently we generate the code documentation using "yardoc" during RPM package build. To save some space in the installed system I have moved the generated documentation to *-devel-doc subpackages in some modules. (In some cases the generated doc was about 2x-3x bigger than the actual code.) But maybe we could go one step further.... What do you think about dropping them completely? Here are some my thoughts: - Does anybody actually use them? IIRC I have never used any devel-doc package, if I need a documentation for a function I usually check the source code or grep the YaST code for example usages. - Do the devel-doc packages still make sense? With YCP the only way was to generate the doc locally, with Ruby and GitHub repositories the generated documentation can be accessed online at RubyDoc.info without need for installing any package. See [1]. - When I want to point someone to a function then I usually post a link to the GitHub sources or to a RubyDoc.info rendered doc (like [2]). - If you really need a local documentation you can always run yardoc manually (via `make doc`/`rake yard`). - Some hand written documentation/screenshots are obsolete anyway, I guess you are not much interested how YaST looked ~15 years ago... :-) [2] IMHO these screenshots and the documentation should be moved to the GitHub wiki. What do you think about it? [yast-devel] Missing fixes

Hi all, I just want to point out something that has surprised me and it could be useful to newcomers. While debugging a problem with yast2-kdump in SLE 11 SP4, I noticed that it was fixed in SLE 12[1]. According to 'git blame', the bugfix was converted by ycp-killer, so I expected it to be present in Code-11 -SP3 branch. But it's not. So I checked the 'good-bye-ycp' tag and I found some fixes[2] (including the one I was looking for[3]). Most of them have been ported to Code-11-SP3, but some of them are still missing (bnc#687249 or bnc#440554 for example). Obviously, all those fixes are present in master and SLE 12 branches. At this time, I'm going to merge only the fix I need. But, for the others, should we do something? Yeah, core version is problem as y2r require to have yast2-core with version at least 2.24.12 otherwise generated XML is not complete. For 12.3 we did it with specially shipped version of yast2-core, but it is not longer available, so what I suggest is to try new version of yast2-core on that machine ( expect that it can break some yast bindings, so it can cause cascade of updates ). [yast-devel] y2r -- the saga continues...

Hello all, I’ve built a 12.3 VM, updated it to the latest levels, installed y2r… and it still gives me the exact same errors in Ruby when run it on my YCP module, like “undefined method to_sym” and random “unknown variable category”. Any ideas? I already tried doing it on 12.3, 13.2, Leap and SLES 11SP4 with similar results. I’m almost giving up on y2r and going for full manual conversion… Erico M.
