[yast-devel] Popcorn YaST install integration

Hi, I'm working on Popcorn[1] for openSUSE this summer. Popcorn will gather statistics determining popular packages in openSUSE, and later for other distributions as well. It is inspired by Debian Popcon[2] and the way they(Debian/Ubuntu) get users to sign up is through their installation and configuration tools.[3] We would like the same for Popcorn by integrating with YaST, if that is possible. [yast-devel] Gloves and config agent future

Hi yast and gloves hackers and its non-trivial intersect ;) After discussion with internal users and also some external ones we decide that we need change in architecture to provide more highlevel API then on fs level. So I start modifiing git to this change. I already change libconfig_agent, so now it is just simple code, that provide only logger and ancestors for agents. Thanks to Michal Filka we have there also generic sysconfig agent ( I modify it slightly ). Plan is to add there other generic agents ( there is also script agent to run scripts ). So except in near future that config_agent packages start changing. Good information is also that now config_agents is really simple part that depends just on augeas and ruby, so via ruby bindings you can in YaST2 even without gloves ( yes, it is now little tricky, but I plan modify yast2-ruby-bindings for easier handling of instances. Nice to see module for such interesting technology like containers, just few notes. First is if we should not start immediatelly in git with such module? As some of you may or may not know, there exists a YaST fan page on Facebook. We created this about a year ago, however we don't have much activity on it. http://www.facebook.com/pages/YaST/150698461670267 Watching this mailing list, there is clearly a lot of things going on in YaST development. It would be helpful if someone from the YaST team would send periodic updates to this FB page. Currently, none of the admins on this page are directly from the YaST team. Hi all, This is just a note for you in case you came across a strange UTF-8 string problem in YCP (maybe you already know that but for me it was quite a surprise): YCP string operator [] takes _byte_ index in the string, while size(string) returns _number_of_characters_. The problem is when you combine both functions, the result will be probably buggy, see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=728588 Example from the bug: size("áa") => 2, but "áa"[1] is not "a" as expected but the second _byte_ of the string which is one half of the "á" UTF-8 character, if you remove it you'll get garbage in the string... Keep this in your mind when iterating over YCP strings... (I'm not sure whether fixing YCPString::[] would be a good idea, it might break something else. May be, yast2-network should have dependency on yast2-proxy?
