YaST hackers, I've just finished implementing ground for feature #305845 [1], that is support for defining additional keywords for YaST module and querying those (in addition to module names) in (Qt4) control centre search. However, to put the feature really into practice, I need your help. It is very simple: all you have to do is to modify .desktop file(s) your YaST module ships by adding a new key-value pair to it. The key name is 'X-SuSE-YaST- Keywords' (to conform to xdg standards [2]) and its value is comma-separated list of words describing the function of the module. Example: [Desktop Entry] Type=Application //those you already have Name=Flinstones GenericName=Modern Stone Age Family //this you will need to add X-SuSE-YaST-Keywords=fred,wilma,barney,betty I'm sure you know best which keywords to put in in order to make it easier for the users to find the module :) Thanks for the cooperation. hB. [yast-devel] RFC: splitting yast2-core package

Hi all, Currently yast2-core package requires also DBus and PolicyKit packages (because of the DBus service and the DBus agent). This makes updating or compiling the interpreter more complicated and the DBus service is always installed (even when not needed) which is bad from security point of view. So my proposal is to split the package into three parts: - yast2-core - the core interpreter + agents (no DBus or PolicyKit dependency) - yast2-dbus-client - the DBus agent (requires DBus), currently needed by yast2-storage only - yast2-dbus-server - YaST DBus services (require DBus + PolicyKit), needed by WebYast (so it should not be installed by default) I have already prepared the new packages in tmp/lslezak SVN branch, RPMs are in my OBS project (home:lslezak:Factory). Please review the proposal. If there are no objections I'll submit the packages to Factory soon... Hi, i'm doing some tests with autoyast, and it is possible to export the configuration of a system using yast2 autoyast tools-> create reference profile option. The problem is that i need to export this settings automatically and during the normal installation, is there any interface, package, modules that export the settings into xml format information (like control.xml or autoyast.xml information)? Hi! With libzypp-6.11.0 you can now choose among several download modes. The mode is set in ZYppCommitPolicy. DownloadOnly, //!< Just download all packages to the local cache. //!< Do not install. Implies a dry-run. DownloadInAdvance, //!< First download all packages to the local cache. //!< Then start to install. DownloadInHeaps, //!< Similar to DownloadInAdvance, but try to split //!< the transaction into heaps, where at the end of //!< each heap a consistent system state is reached. DownloadAsNeeded //!< Alternating download and install. Packages are //!< cached just to avid CD/DVD hopping. This is the //!< traditional behaviour. Next steps: - Switch to use the satsolvers new install order computation. This should allow to actually compute the heaps for DownloadInHeaps. Currently it's the same as DownloadInAdvance. - For DownloadInAdvance/DownloadInHeaps we can add file conflict checks. As a plan B (or fallback), here is VirtualBox image of web-yast: ftp://cml.suse.cz/appliances/openSUSE-11.1_Web_YaST.vdi.lzma Note: it's accessible only from internal network. - upgrade to last VirtualBox version (tested with 3.0.2) - copy and uncompress image into local disk (work with copy) - create new vbox machine and attach existing disk (uncompressed image) - change network type from NAT to Bridged network and use your interface (usually eth0) - user is "hh" and password "hhhhh" (same password for root) - copy and use YOUR ssh key - use IP address of vbox machine instead of localhost - don't forget to have a fun ;-) In case of any questions, just ask ... I've submitted a patch to YaST:Head for YQPkgList yast2-qt-pkg which totally fixes bnc#441828 in fact I used a patch from /Comment #19 <https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=441828#c19> /in the bug and it works very well. It works with svn yast2-qt-pkg-2.18.7 which doesn't build due to YQPkgDescriptionView.cc:118: error: 'const class zypp::Package' has no member named 'filenames' without the patch. Are there any major changes planned for YQPkgList which might conflict with the patch? I've used the patched yast2-qt-pkg-2.18.9 since Monday. Patch is at home:plater:branches:YaST:Head. Hi! I'm doing walkthrough the "Installation from source" wiki page and one of the steps is "Check your system". Comments for this particular piece. 1) It is not clear that you have to change to 'rest-service/webservice' directory first to run it. 2) seems the task depends on rcov somehow, so if you don't have rcov gem installed, rake task will not even start 3) the script ends when encounters first problem. I've started with pure JeOS template, so far I've to run the script 15 times and counting. 4) check requires to have installed all policies for all plugins it knows (the list seems to be hardcoded). IMO this should not be the case. When you have just checked out the sources for the first time, you can hardly expect the policies in place. Furthermore, it is not obvious how to install them. The policies can be installed via 'make' (!!!0 in rest-service directory, but this does not work, the paths are obsolete. 5) packagekit is required for development 6) /etc/yast_user_roles The file seems to be optional, system_check asks for it anyway, but does not provide any hint where to get it. 7) Why do we test all plugins are working properly? It's not clear what the test does and why it's doing it. In the end, it has blown for me like this: *** Error: plugin SystemtimesController does not work correctly Please check the logfiles What is user supposed to do with this?!? At that point, I gave up, although 'rake db:migrate' helped me to get one step further, but ending up with the same message in different context. I'm going to clean up what I can, document the rest in wiki. If anyone can help me with item 7), it would be great. Hi, yesterday, thanks to James Tan's help, I set up an accout in SUSE Studio and copied the appliance that Lukas made. If you would like to hack on the appliance, I can add you to the account. But beware, the shared account mechanics is poor at the moment: - your OpenID can belong on one account only. Hi all, here is my report about UI testing of web applications. I checked two possible testing systems - Watir and Selenium. (Note: I haven't tested Selenium fully yet, this document just describes the current status, I'll continue the next week.) Make sure that JSSh is properly installed and Firefox is running with '-jssh' option Running Firefox manually with -jssh option didn't help. Maybe the JSSh plugin doesn't work correctly in Firefox 3.5 ?? You don't have bother about finding HTML element names on the page to create a test case. Test cases can be later loaded and replayed. You only need to add result checking commands to them. The most important thing is that it is possible to export a test case as a Ruby test script which uses SeleniumRC component.
