The Tamil input method modul for GTK2 written by Dinesh Nadarajah which is available from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tamilinix/files/keyboard/tamil-gtk2im.tar.gz is now also available as an rpm package for SuSE Linux 8.2. Hi Mike, Long time, no? Quite busy with my professional works. Well, got the great news that new suse is about to be released sometime in september. Let me remind you of Tamil support therein. Please try including the following: Tamil fonts Tamil IMEs It would be great if yast2 gives us a choice to select one of our Tamil IMEs too. I know qt3.2 has support to Indic languages, and kde3.2 will be released only in December. But, try your best to support our Tamil. Printing Chinese from Awk

Hi How to print Chinese from inside an Awk program like awk 'BEGIN{printf "%c\n", ucode}' where is ucode is the Unicode code value of the character. However %c works only for single byte chars. Non-KDE applications in Japanese

Hi, I've already installed SuSE Linux 8.2 Professional in Japanese. After installing it, no problem with KDE in Japanese. The menu already viewed in Japanese. But some applications can't view Japanese correctly (a.k.a mojibake), such as Sylpheed, XMMS, and other non-KDE applications. Any ideas how to solve this problem? Pen^2

LaTeX CJK not printing characters

Hello all, I'm running into a situation where LaTeX documents with all characters present in the .tex are not appearing when they are composed into a .dvi. For example, the line: \section*{美國廠牌} displays only 2 characters (the first and last) when it's composed as opposed to all four. Is this a missing character in the font? Thanks, Jason

Poblems with scim

I have some questions, problems with SCIM, i.e. the SuSE packages from M. Fabian: Intoduction: Since I found no way to install arbitrary RPMs from YaST, I installed the scim with "rpm -ivh scim*" (and I already tried to recover the problems with "rpm --rebuilddb" twice). I upgrade my system with YOU daily, I also downloaded and installed all new SuSE KDE packages. SCIM corrupts YaST software update: 1) The dependencies seem to be corrupt. I installed scim-0.5.1-0. When I start YaST, it complains that all other scim packages (scim-config-gconf, scim-devel, ...) have an unresolved dependency to "scim = 0.5.1-". That should be "scim = 0.5.1-0", I suppose or better "scim >= 0.5.1". 2) What's worse: If I then click "Ignore All" and "Yes, Really" (or how it is translated english, I use german), then I get a dialog "Ignore all changes? Yes/No". This dialog reappears in an endless loop, regardles whether I click "Yes" or "no". I can no more access YaST software update. The only way is to kill YaST (with xkill, respectively Ctrl-Alt-Esc). Now, I cannot use the Grafical/X11 YaST anymore, only the command line YaST! When I deinstall the SCIM packages, YaST works again... Next problem: PinYin: 1) What's "Smart" Chinese Pin Yin? - Is there a "normal" Chinese Pin Yin (preferabely open source)? - Does "Smart" mean "automatic reordering" or "automatic completion"? If so, then I'd prefer a "non smart" Pin Yin... 2) Isn't it allowed to mirror the Pin Yin method in mfabian's home? Get all from the same source would make installation easier. 3) Will a Pin Yin method for SCIM be included in next SuSE? 4) RPM Installation of Smart Pin Yin fails with message: "error: scim-chinese-0.2.3-1ul1.i386.rpm cannot be installed", unfortunately with no reason why it cannot be installed. Any ideas, other experiences? Regards Marc

Hi, I've used SuSE 8.2 since may, and my dad want to give it a try too. But he needs to write in Chinese for bussiness. Can anyone here help me? I already try to install SuSE in Chinesse but still can't input Chinesse. Pointers, web link, hint, etc welcome.... "Umlaute" in OpenOffice Menues

Hello, I am running SuSE 8.2 on my Thinkpad X30 and need Japanese support for my German environment. Therefore I have switched over to UTF-8. Now, the German version of OO 1.0.2 (from the SuSE DVD) seems not able to get along with this settings: In all menues and dialogue windows the German "Umlaute" and the sharp "s" are missing. (I have also StarOffice 6 installed, but there it is no problem.) What can I do? Greetings from Osaka Matthias Seeger
