No compose characters possible with asian language setting

Hello! I'm currently using SuSE 9.0 pro for both german and japanese input. This works fine so far, by setting the variables LC_CTYPE to ja_JP.UTF-8 and LANG to de_DE.UTF-8, but nevertheless I experienced a problem: With the LC_CTYPE set to japanese and an input method running (currently kinput2), I cannot type european language compose characters any more - at least the ones I used to produce with two sequent keystrokes ( ´ and e for é for example). The rest of my (german) keyboard layout works all fine, and with LC_CTYPE set to german, é's, à's, ô's, etc pose no problem, but then, of course, I cannot input japanese... This problem seems also to be existent for other language settings that use an input method, I tried it out with a friend who uses chinese input (also on SuSE 9.0 pro). We (my friend and I) are currently writing an article about asian language input with StarOffice/OOo, so we would really appreciate any help or hint concerning this problem. Thanks. Marcel Boeing

scim packages: Hebrew, Greek

Hello, I've been running Scim on an ancient internetless laptop that I installed Xubuntu (Dapper, testing) on. A lot of the input methods work (Korean, for example) but although I installed everything concerning Scim, m17n, etc. and dependencies, I can't find the package(s) that support Greek, common Arabic and Hebrew. It seems it could be scim-tables ?.?.? , but this package is not available/existent on current Debian/Ubuntu package lists. There are the packages scim-tables-zh, -additional, and the like, but not just scim-tables. Did alphabeths such as Hebrew, Greek, m17n-ar-kbd, and also m17n-t-latn-post etc., end up in another package recently? Or is it something with m17n? I.o.w., which m17n-package could I have missed? Composing Hinid Characters in Emacs after reloading files

Hi, We use the input method devanagari-hindi-transliteration in emacs to type Hindi characters. Some of the characters are displayed as fusions (for instance `so'). After reloading the file the characters are displayed in isolation again. From http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/SupportHindi I learned that there is a comand that does the fusion: > When you reload a file in which you had typed some hindi, the > characters are disjoint and not formed into words. To convert them > back, this works for me: M-x indian-to-devanagari-region, followed by > M-x devanagari-compose-region. My question is: Can this be done automatically? I.e. when I load a file can a header line or something be used to rearrange everything in the file? In addition, I printout messages to an emacs buffer and the characters I use there should be fused as well. Hindi Type1 Fonts

Hi, I found out why the type1 conversion with the following call failed: /usr/sbin/cjk-latex-config --type1 updmap: This is updmap, version 1107552857 updmap: using transcript file `/var/lib/texmf/web2c/updmap.log' updmap: initial config file is `/etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg' updmap: configuration (updmap.cfg) unchanged. Map files will not be recreated. One has to change updmap.cfg vacously and then everything works. Thanks for the scripts! Stefan

Hi, I now have the Hindi fonts running. I tried to compile a description of the two documents I got and I hope that I did not forget any steps and that my colleagues will be able to replicate this. http://www.cl.uni-bremen.de/~stefan/Lehre/LaTeX/hindi.html One thing is missing though. I did not get the Type1 fonts in the PDF files to work. In a previous mail I was pointed to the script /usr/sbin/cjk-latex-config. This script does the necessary things for the Chinese fonts. I had a quick look at the script, but it seems complicated. Is there an easy way to get the Type1 fonts for my Hindi examples? Latex and Hindi

Hi, I try to set up Latex for direct typesetting of Hindi text. I found a description of waht to do here: http://www.tug.org/pipermail/macostex-archives/2004-July/006909.html However, the command ttf2tfm tituscbz.ttf -w tituscbz at Unicode@ failed. I think the options of ttf2tfm changed. As there were very convenient tools for Chinese in the suse distribution, I wonder whether there are any tools for Hindi. If not, does anybody know of a more up to date description of the Hindi-Fonts?
