No compose characters possible with asian language setting

Hello! I'm currently using SuSE 9.0 pro for both german and japanese input. This works fine so far, by setting the variables LC_CTYPE to ja_JP.UTF-8 and LANG to de_DE.UTF-8, but nevertheless I experienced a problem: With the LC_CTYPE set to japanese and an input method running (currently kinput2), I cannot type european language compose characters any more - at least the ones I used to produce with two sequent keystrokes ( ´ and e for é for example). The rest of my (german) keyboard layout works all fine, and with LC_CTYPE set to german, é's, à's, ô's, etc pose no problem, but then, of course, I cannot input japanese... This problem seems also to be existent for other language settings that use an input method, I tried it out with a friend who uses chinese input (also on SuSE 9.0 pro). We (my friend and I) are currently writing an article about asian language input with StarOffice/OOo, so we would really appreciate any help or hint concerning this problem. Thanks. Marcel Boeing

Accented char not present

Hi, I try since many days to set correctly the console to have accented characters. I'm usig SUSE 9.2, freshly installed. I have choose french-canadian as keyboard layout which should load cf.map.gz which include the line "compose as usual 8859-1". The keyboard is correctly set but the compose isn't working. In console i can't get accented characters. Also, with Opera Web browser, over KDE, Opera isn't get accented chars. It just display `e instead of egrave. I suppose Opera isn't take the X config because other apps as Kwrite or OpenOffice have correct accents. With all the behavior i can observe, i think the problem is when the keyboard driver try to compose. Here is an excerpt of dumpkeys --compose-only: compose '`' 'A' to ' compose '`' 'a' to ' compose '\'' 'A' to ' compose '\'' 'a' to ' compose '^' 'A' to ' compose '^' 'a' to ' compose '~' 'A' to ' compose '~' 'a' to ' compose '"' 'A' to ' compose '"' 'a' to ' compose 'O' 'A' to ' In YAST, under sysconfig, hardware, keyboard, i have the following value pair: cf.map.gz for KEYTABLE latin1.add for COMPOSETABLE I try some other combinations, utf8 instead of latin1.add, with and without clear keyword. SuSE Linux availability in PT-pt language

Hello, Can anyone give me some directions on how to contribute to the availability of SuSE Linux in Portuguese-Portugal (PT-pt) language? I have been looking and, this seemed the best place to ask. The only Portuguese language available is PT-br, and SuSE linux is getting more acceptance in Portugal, i would like to contribute to the eventual translation, mainly YaST, knowing that KDE and Gnome is already translated to PT-pt. thunderbird/firefox starting SCIM

Hello Internationals, does anyone know why thunderbird and firefox both start scim even though my locale is LANG=de_DE.UTF-8? scim problem

Hello List, just installed the SuSE 9.2 scim-packages on my 9.0 box. In ~/.profile I export LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 and in ~/.xim I export XMODIFIERS="@im=SCIM" instead of the commented out line # export XMODIFIERS="@im=local" (almost at the end of that file). After starting skim (or scim-gtk, doesn't matter, which one I use) and then restarting X, skim appears in the taskbar. But I can't select an input method there. I need to start an application via LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 <appnam> in order to be able to choose the input method in skim/scim-gtk (for that particular program only). A echo $XMODIFIERS in konsole returns @im=SCIM as expected. What do I have to do to make this work for all apps?
