[opensuse-kernel] [patch #2 0/5] scripts/sequence-patch.sh: Add some useful options

Hi all - There are a few things I do every time I expand the source tree with sequence-patch.sh. Or, rather, things I should do and forget to do a lot. The first I always remember to do: Copy the config I want to test with to my build directory. The second I forget more often than not: Expand the kABI references into my build directory. One of the things that bites me occasionally is when there are kABI changes that go un-noticed until the automated build checker flags them and sends me an email yelling at me for my carelessness. This patch adds three options to scripts/sequence-patch.sh to take care of these automatically. --build-dir=PATH allows you to specify the build directory you'll be using. It will create the directory if it doesn't exist. It defaults to $PATCH_DIR. --config=ARCH-FLAVOR allows you to specify the config you'll use. It will copy the config to your build directory. It is not a fatal error if the config does not exist. It will just not copy one. --kabi allows you to direct sequence-patch to expand the kABI references into your build directory. Since the references are arch/flavor specific, it depends on --config=ARCH-FLAVOR. It is not a fatal error if the kABI reference doesn't exist since this is always the case in the master branch. The --build-dir PATH is subject to shell expansion. It is expanded late enough in the script that most variables should be available. There are also three new variables available when --config is used: $CONFIG contains the --config contents. $CONFIG_ARCH contains the arch part of the config. $CONFIG_FLAVOR contains the flavor part. I see the last kernels on update were in April. When are next scheduled, or have they been scheduled? Finally 15 month old https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=584493 was fixed "Monday", and I'm anxious to have access to properly working kernel-desktop & kernel-default in these installations. [opensuse-kernel] Need help to debug an non working Dell Precision M4600

Hi All, before posting a bug, I need your help to grab the maximum of efficient informations I will need to finally debug a trouble I have. On a Dell Precision M4600 laptop, with a i7 2820QM proc, 16GB Ram 2 x seagate xt-momentus 500Go sata Gfx quadro 2000M ( without optimus enabled ) + openSUSE Factory : kernel 3.0-rc6 actually but tested with vanillia same I get a the most following trouble : shutdown -h works shutdown -r crash after "kernel will now reboot the system" And I need to cold reset the computer. I've tried several boot flags combination, and finally discover that putting noapic permit to have reboot working. But then several things at least warnings come during boot. There's a forum post giving error - http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/pre-release-beta… The Tumbleweed uers, tried kernel 3.0 because of bugs seen with the stable kernel series syncing notebook to Windows server. Bugzilla entry expected. I haven't found a reference to laptop-mode-tools since 3.0 announced, last change by Tue 07 Dec 2010 12:00:00 GMT coolo(a)novell.com - prereq init script haldaemon This may be another unnoticed HAL dependency to. I think this probably will be reportable in bugzilla, but I don't have laptop Factory install, & the Tumbleweed user is obviously using a pre-release kernel, so thought a quick heads up best first, before committing "bureaucracy". [opensuse-kernel] Creating device nodes for kernel driver

Hi there, I wrote a kernel device driver for a special purpose PCI framegrapper device which I maintain using a kmp rpm-package. Sofar I am grep'ing /proc/devices for the major number during startup and create the device nodes at startup. The documentation I found on the web and in /usr/src/linux/Documentations seems to be outdated, incomplete or contradicting. I am now wondering what is the most uptodate and recommended method to create the device nodes without the need for a user space setup script? This is just too good not to be exploited in 12.1, fixes a very long standing annoyance since (7.1?) when Online Kernel update was introduced, IMO this ought to be the distro default. Thanks for the Lizard page to documenting it. So I've put in a feature request - "Preserve Running Kernel On Kernel Update by Default" https://features.opensuse.org/312647 Hopefully there'll be support for it, so this edit to /etc/zypp/zypp.conf becomes uncessary on almost every install. # multiversion = provides:multiversion(kernel) The latest/running worked for me so far using factory adding kernels from the Kernel Team HEAD & stable repos, if you want a guinea pig to try it on my Tumbleweed install, I'd be very happy to do so. Hi, can we get 3.0-rc7 in Kernel:HEAD soon? Because rc6 without ca5c485f55d326d9a23e4badd05890148aa53f74 and friends is pretty bad on USB after resume... [opensuse-kernel] Btrfs oops in 11.4

All, I just had a btrfs oops with a default 11,4 kernel. I haven't even tried a update kernel yet since I wasn't sure anyone would care. Unless advised otherwise, my plan is to try the same test with a Tumbleweed kernel and open a bugzilla if and only if I get the oops there too. currently installation-images does not build for factory due to a missing kernel-xen. Jan fixed this with his last commit but I still do not see kernel- xen in the obs Kernel:Head project. Could somebody investigate and submit a new kernel to factory, please? Just as we're in the process of doing for SLE11 SP2, we'd like to remove 32-bit host support in Xen (and hence kernel-xen) for 12.1. 32-bit guests will continue to be supported.
