what's causing these errors/warnings? are they 'real'?

Since KOTD 20090406183001_398542cc booting with vga=0x31a results in black and
usable textconsoles. on my system. KOTD 20090331140119_768f098d still works
fine. Looking in boot.msg shows that vesafb doesn't load anymore. Any ideas
what change may have broken vga=0x31a ?

The drivers that are provided from the quickcam-kmp-* package is now
ported to v4l2
Quote mail from debian list
http://groups.google.com/group/linux.debian.bugs.dist/browse_thread/thread/…
linux-2.6.29 provides the gspca_stv06xx driver, a port to v4l2 of qc-usb
which
should support all the cameras supported by qc-usb.
----------
I've tested the driver with my cam, and it seems quite functional,
however I see that some desktop apps does not yet function with the new
in kernel driver. I.e ekiga + gstreamer.
This is however bugs in those aps I guess, and should probably not be
taken into account.
+ from what I read in the above link, qc-usb is not developed anymore,
so I guess removing that package will ease the burden on you
kernelmaintainers.
Extra info: Vlc streams the cam fine + the gspca "webcam-test" program
works fine.
Should I put in a bug to have the package removed/obsoleted, or does
anyone object to have the package removed?

Folks
Now that opensuse is dropping aufs from factory
(http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-commit/2009-05/msg00188.html),
are opensuse developers going to assist in getting the 'union mount'
patches working with new kernels?
Thanks,
Toni

[kernel 2.6.30-rc3-13-vanilla from factory on top of 11.1]
As Greg has mentioned on another list, combining a recent factoryk
ernel with 11.1 works just fine. However, there are some issues:
. With my 945GM intel graphics card, I don't get TTYs which I could
switch to with Ctrl-Alt-Shift-F1, for example. Only F7 to switch
back to graphics mode works fine. In particular, I don't see any
boot messages at start-up. This has worked fine with a previous
kernel like 2.6.27.21.
Are there new boot parameters to add or is this a bug? It seems
that `vga=0x31a' fails (which yast provides) since without it I
can see boot messages.
BTW, for `vga=0x31a' I get
Console: colour dummy device 80x25
in the log file, while without this parameter I get
Console: colour VGA+ 80x25
. There's a typo in a boot message:
could not finy any ACPI SRAT memory areas.
^
. What do these messages mean?
Driver 'sd' needs updating - please use bus_type methods
Driver 'sr' needs updating - please use bus_type methods
Something I should take care of?
. Ditto for this message:
Warning! ehci_hcd should always be loaded before \
uhci_hcd and ohci_hcd, not after
. I see that the above RPM comes with a lot of firmware files.
Interestingly, the file iwlwifi-3945-2.ucode is missing. Is this
intentional? I assume that there are copyright and/or license
issues...
. After updating the microcode, iwl3945 works, but only a few
minutes. Then I get
wlan0: no probe response from AP 00:0f:b5:7b:1c:c6 - disassociating
What's that? Why does iwl3945 now behaves differently compared to
2.6.27.21?

It's not set. BTW, CONFIG_DRM_I915 is set to `m'.

There is a big difference w.r.t. to volume whether I use mplayer to
play, say, a flash audio file or a Adobe's flash player within
Firefox. The latter's volume is far too small. Additionally, the
flash player, even if not active (but open in a Firefox tab), blocks

Hi,
I'm kind off relying in the company to access our Novell infrastructure (NW6.5, some very few OES2, more to come).
Since the 2.6.29 kernels (might have been .28.. not to sure.) the novfs kernel module is no longer shipped and the one shipped with the novell client
(yaiks) does not compile properly anymore.
Is there any chance to get this piece working again? (For the time being I 'work around' using ncpmount, but it has it's limitations and the client
is just some more 'comfort' on top of it all (ncpmount/ncpfs does not allow for accessing files > 4GB for example).
Thanks for your valuable support!
just for reference, the build of novfs.ko fails with:
