While we eliminated a *lot* of patches between 2.6.27 and 2.6.29, we're still carrying around more than 350 patches. Some of them are needed for our build infrastructure and we'll be carrying those around forever. A lot of them are for things like Xen, swap over nfs, lttng, and perfmon. While I'd like those to go upstream, I'm not holding my breath. I see things like multipath extensions/fixes, driver fixes, acpi quirks, etc that should all definitely be upstream. [opensuse-kernel] return addr by malloc

I have a question regarding the "virtual addresses" returned by the malloc call. When I run the same binary with the same input (implying that the program takes the same path), and pmap dump is the same across program runs (except stack), can something be said about the returned virtual addresses? Given that the process maps are identical (except stack), will they be the same? The behavior I am noticing is that they are the same (I ran the program many times). But this is not sufficient to say that they " will always " be the same. My program does not depend on the returned addresses, its only for some profiling purposes that the answer matters in this context. I have an OpenSuse kernel 2.6.20 with libc version 2.5. [opensuse-kernel] kernel 2.6.29.51 Perfmon and ck804xrom

After I installed the 2.6.29.51 kernel i had a perfomance slowdown of my system Quad 6600 The same slowdown as in all the 2.6.28.and 2.6.29.rc kernels compared to the stock-kernel opensuse 11.1 As i did with all the 29.rcX kernels: I moved the modules from /lib/modules/2.6.29-51-default/kernel/arch/x86/perfmon to a backup the same for ck804xrom.ko in /lib/modules/2.6.29-51-default/kernel/drivers/mtd/maps to a backup Now the system is running at fullspeed without delays in internet and responce in kde4.2.1 So what are those modules as the kernel keeps running when they are gone.? -- Robert Koendering Willemstad Curacao ck804xrom -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+help(a)opensuse.org

So far, I know at least wpa_supplicant needs to be updated to the version from Factory. [opensuse-kernel] kernel update --> problem iptables connlimit

Hello, i try to build latest kernel-bigsmp for suse 10.3 on my own. (I build on suse 10.1 for testing purposes) kernel source is this: http://www.linux-magazin.de/dfn_cert_advisories/suse_schwachstellen_im_open… I do an unrpm and build on my own, spec-File for RPM is unchanged. I also had to update some other packages but building, installing, running is ok but now i have an Problem with iptables and connlimit modul. I add an Chain with: iptables -N MY_TESTCHAIN and want to restrict a port to max connlimit with: iptables -A MY_TESTCHAIN -p tcp --dport 25 -m connlimit --connlimit-above 500 -j DROP execution shows: iptables: No chain/target/match by that name iptables has connlimit-support Files exists: /usr/lib/iptables/libxt_connbytes.so /usr/lib/iptables/libxt_connmark.so /usr/lib/iptables/libxt_connlimit.so /usr/lib/iptables/libipt_conntrack.so and execution of: iptables -m connlimit -h also works and connlimit works with further kernel. I do not really know the corresponding kernel-modul which should be activated. (and how ;) ) Seems not to be included by default? any suggestions/workaround? What should i do now? Googling seems to point out that a lot of users (a lot also from Ubuntu Interpid) seem to have this issue on their machines, but maintly in combination with bigger drives (1.5TB)... I have a 2nd drive in that box of 1TB and an external USB of 1TB is also attached... just in case that makes any difference. Some users reported that downgrading their kernels (ubuntu forums.. sorry) helped them in this situation. So my question to you all might Kernel Hackers: Do you know of anything like this happening? Inserting a USB DVB-T stick (http://www.terratec.net/en/products/driver/produkte_treiber_en_33211.html into a USB port, gives the following in dmesg with current FACTORY, and similarly for openSUSE 11.1: usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 usb 5-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0ccd, idProduct=0055 usb 5-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 usb 5-1: Product: Cinergy T USB XE usb 5-1: Manufacturer: AFA usb 5-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice dvb-usb: found a 'TerraTec Cinergy T USB XE' in cold state, will try to load a firmware usb 5-1: firmware: requesting af9005.fw dvb-usb: did not find the firmware file. (af9005.fw) Please see linux/Documentation/dvb/ for more details on firmware-problems. (-2) dvb_usb_af9005: probe of 5-1:1.0 failed with error -2 usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_af9005 I didn't find linux/Documentation/dvb/ all that helpful, but Google is your friend and so I got the firmware and stashed it to /lib/firmware. So, my personal problem is addressed (except that the tuner fails to get a signal "dvbsi: Cant tune DVB", but that may be due to bad signal). However, my concern is that this is really not the experience we'd like to provide to openSUSE users. How can be improve upon this?
