[opensuse-kernel] problem installing kernel-firmware from repo Kernel:/stable/standard

Hi, if on leap 15.2 I install the kernel from the repository Kernel:/stable/standard, the instalation process succeed. But if I do it on Leap 15.1 the packages kernel-firmware, ucode-amd and kernel-syms fails to install. Here are the errors: Installation of kernel-firmware-20200827-35.1.noarch failed: Error: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: unpacking of archive failed: cpio: Bad magic error: kernel-firmware-20200827-35.1.noarch: install failed Installation of ucode-amd-20200827-35.1.noarch failed: Error: Subprocess failed. The problem has appeared with the kernel 5.8 Is there a way to overcome the error and install the missing rpm on leap 15.1? Just in case, anybody wants to try this with Tumbleweed, here's a build for you: https://build.opensuse.org/project/monitor/home:frispete:kernel Target: openSUSE_Tumbleweed_Kernel_stable This build adheres to the official workflow. As such it is based on a fork of https://github.com/openSUSE/kernel-source and just contains two minimally invasive changes: https://github.com/frispete/kernel-source/tree/stable. One adds another flavor: {arm,x86_}64-preempt and raises HZ to 1000 for x86_64. The other switches to PREEMPT_NONE and NO_HZ_FULL for {arm,x86_}64-default. The preempt flavor behaves fine on a couple of very different (desktop/ notebook) systems so far. I expected a somewhat higher battery drain on my (customized) Lenovo X1C Gen1, but couldn't perceive such (while not measured). More the contrary, the 5.8 series appears to be improved in this area. Nice. I would like to discuss the NO_HZ_FULL versus NO_HZ_IDLE impacts for -default (the designated server choice). Anybody remember the reasons for this choice on SLE15-SP3-default? If you try these builds, please send some feedback on the results. [opensuse-kernel] Jump: merge Leap and SLE kernel configs

Hi kernel team and Jump team, Kernel configs are very different between Leap and SLE, at least for arm64/default. Few examples for arm64: * CONFIG_NO_HZ_IDLE vs CONFIG_NO_HZ_FULL * Preemption * OTG support missing in SLE * Various drivers (sensors, network, touchscreens, etc.) missing in SLE What is the plan regarding kernels? Do we merge the configs? Or do we rebuild the kernel for Jump? I know SLE has some features disabled on purpose, but Leap had some features enabled on purpose as well. Hello, My OS is openSUSE Leap 15.2. I ususally get 3 src.rpm files from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard/ 1. kerner-source src.rpm 2. kernel-syms src.rpm 3. kernel-default src.rpm and compiles with my config file. Since kernel 5.8, I couldn't compile the kernel-default src.rpm. [opensuse-kernel] Is rpmlib(PayloadIsZstd) now the standard?

Hi there, recently we saw that current kernels from Kernel:stable cannot be installed on anything older than Leap 15.2 due to the requirement for "rpmlib(PayloadIsZstd)". Jiri found out that this was wrongly introduced by a bug in pesign-obs-integration - details in boo#1175882 However, the newly built kernel-firmware-20200827-35.1.noarch.rpm from the same repo now requires "rpmlib(PayloadIsZstd) <= 5.4.18-1", too. The version before still just required "rpmlib(PayloadIsXz) <= 5.2-1". Is this change expected, i.e. on purpose? Or is it a fallout from the bug in pesign-obs-integration, too? I'd appreciate if all packages from Kernel:stable can be installed on e.g. Leap 15.1 as it was always the case. Thx, cheers. l8er manfred

Hi, slowly approaching volatility3 here. Is it our infrastructure, that generates DWARF for the kernel in an unusual way, or is it dwarf2json itself?
