[opensuse-autoinstall] Using autoyast for an automatic system recovery

Hello, i'm thinking about a new usage of AutoYast (or at least a new in my head), i thinking about building an automatic system recovery for OpenSuse. The idea is to install a system and then create an image of the installed system and store into a partition of the disk. This partition will contain the installer, with an autoyast.xml script that will use this image to automatic restore the installed system (like Sony does in its Notebooks). As conception sounds good, but I need to mature this idea, do you have any suggestions, information or ideas to give? [opensuse-autoinstall] prevent partition activation with grub/SLES 11

Hi, after lilo has so many bugs in SLES 11, I tried with grub and just ran into the first problem: I've Windows partitions on my hosts and I install grub in the mbr, so I don't need to activate any partition for grub and want the Windows partition to stay activated. I tried all kind of variants in my profile: <bootloader> <global config:type="list"> <global_entry> <key>activate</key> <value config:type="boolean">false</value> </global_entry> </global> ... <activate config:type="boolean">false</activate> ... <activate>false<activate> ... </bootloader> None of them works. Grub still activates my extended partition sda4 (as /boot is in /dev/sda7) and menu.lst contains ##YaST - activate Looks like AY doesn't handle the activation-instruction. Am I doing sth. wrong? Hi, I'm trying to pass an md5-crypted passwd to grub via <global_entry> <key>password</key> <value>--md5 $1$PvC31/$.jvVgGSAyH2sfrvCa7oy40</value> </global_entry> The generated menu.lst contains password --md5 /$.jvVgGSAyH2sfrvCa7oy40 So I guess that AY somwhere considers $1 and/or $PvC31 like bash variables. Hello, I use one and the same autoyast script to install SLES 10 and SLES 11. Looking in the /etc/hosts file on SLES 11 you can find a additional line: > 127.0.0.2 hostName.domain hostName On a SLES 10 based installation this line is not present. It looks like some default behaviour changed with SLES 11. But how can I avoid this in my autoyast file? Hi, according to bootloader/routines/misc.ycp, the mountby-setting for the device should be transferred to the bootloader config: /** FATE #302219 - Use and choose persistent device names for disk devices * Converts a device name to the corresponding device name it should be * mounted by, according to the "mountby" setting for the device from * yast2-storage. However, although I've chosen to mount by device in my profile (and fstab correctly contains the /dev/sdx stuff), the lilo.conf still contains the /dev/disk/by-id entries. I install SLES10SP2 with autoyast. I have problem with the keyboard. I used: keymap=cf It give me french azerty keyboard. What is the correct way to specify a french-canadian qwerty keyboard? [opensuse-autoinstall] Adding sections to the bootloader config

Hello, I'm installing SLES10SP2, and apart from what gets added by default, in the bootloader section, I'd like to add a few extra sections. Looking at http://www.suse.com/~ug/autoyast_doc/CreateProfile.Bootloader.html I get the impression that it should be possible, but no matter how I try, I either only end up with what's added by default, or what I added my self. Is what I want to do possible, and if so, what would be the way to do it? Hello again, I created a basic xml-file for installing opensuse 11.1 and I'm installing from DVD. The y2log at this time says something like "can't resolve download.opensuse.org". Is the add-on definition too early in this file (I didn't touch the sequence created by autoyast UI) so that it is a problem with dns? Subsequent the <do_online_update config:type="boolean">true</do_online_update> command is ignored (I put this line at the end of the <software> section). Also <suse_register> <do_registration config:type="boolean">true</do_registration> <register_regularly config:type="boolean">true</register_regularly> <submit_hwdata config:type="boolean">true</submit_hwdata> <submit_optional config:type="boolean">false</submit_optional> </suse_register> is not processed. Sorry for the confusion, but I open a separate thread for this bug now, because it does not depend on the <global> parameters in the profile as I wrote before (the subject was meant to be "bug with timeout", not "but with timeout" :-)) It seems like the timeout value for lilo.conf get's a "0" added whenever it is read in YaST. On some systems it grows above the allowed value, on others not (that's why I thought it was depending on the global values). My bootloader profile is only this: <bootloader> <loader_type>lilo</loader_type> <loader_device>/dev/sda</loader_device> <location>custom</location> </bootloader> Nothing about the timeout option. But the generated lilo.conf I find: timeout = 80000 causing AY to throw an error. This is a real stopper, because as far as I understand I cannot alter the lilo.conf file before lilo is called once, only after it (with a chroot script), but I don't get there as AY hangs before. Any idea what I could do? If you think it's not an AY but a YaST bug, I can file a support request via the Novell SLES Support if that helps getting resources to work on it. I've done that for the problem with the unsigned repositories where you assumed that it was a problem in YaST/the installer.
