[opensuse-autoinstall] SLES 10 SP1 pxe installs fail to find nfs randomly?

I'm having an issue after I started using SP1 and I don't know where I should be looking for problems. With the same exact configuration on SLES 10 and SP1, on the network that's running with SP1 machines sometimes they fail to boot. It stops to the red screen (as if it could not find NFS). If I reboot the machine it works fine again. Any ideas where I should be looking? It would be great if I could grab some logs when it fails to find the installer. Hi list, is it possible to replace the configuration tag in the classes section with the ask-feature. If yes which path to I have to specify? I tried to set classes,0,configuration as path - the popup came up but the class was not included. [opensuse-autoinstall] SLES 9 SP3 - overriding the netdevice with hardware address is possible

Just a note to anyone still using a version of SuSE 9 or SLES 9 which doesn't accept a mac address for the netdevice= option. It is indeed possible. It is indeed exceedingly easy to do. Neither the kernel nor the initrd as provided by Novell need be customized. And by default, the linuxrc in the initrd provided by Novell cannot use a mac address with the netdevice= option. Assuming I can get my employer to sign off on it I'll contribute a brief note to the list FAQ as soon as possible. I post this only to acknowledge the frustration I've had over the last year in trying to get this to work, and the kind help Steffen has tried to provide. I know Suse/SLES 10 accepts this as an option, however in production situations there are legitimate reasons for using the older releases. Thanks. Hi, While attempting to autoinstall on a Intel S5000XAL (it has an onboard SATA Raid controller ), the following is displayed as an error message just before partitioning: *************************************************************************************************** Error: Warning: This system has atleast one hard disk with a raid configuration presented by BIOS as RAID that is infact a software RAID. The following disks were detected as part of such a RAID: /dev/sda /dev/sdb The Linux kernel 2.4 supported some of these systems (like Promise FastTrack a HighPoint RocketRaid), but the Linux kernel 2.6 does not support them at all. If you install onto these disks, your RAID configuration and any data on the RAID will be lost. Refer to http://portal.suse.com to learn how to migrate to a Linux software RAID. *************************************************************************************************** On clicking OK button, the installation proceeds to completion. [opensuse-autoinstall] get rid of an error message

Hi list, during autoinstall process I've got an error message claiming about a RAID configuration presented by the BIOS that is in fact a software RAID. I configured the default behavior to automatically unlock all error messages and warnings. But this one needs a manually interaction. How can I avoid this? [opensuse-autoinstall] Q: find out active path on SAN for partitioning with autoyast

Hi list, I'm trying to autoinstall SLES10-SP1 on SAN. Multiple pathes and storage processors presents multiple devicenames to the same physical device to autoyast whether they are active or passive. Due to the behavior of HBA switches and Storage Processors /dev/sda is sometimes passiv (that means I can't use it for installation) sometimes active. How do I come arround this with autoyast? How should the partitioning section look like. [opensuse-autoinstall] grub installation?

Hello, I've some problems concerning the automatic installation of grub. I've looked at the official documenation of uwe gansert on his website, but the part about the bootloader is very short. What must I do that the boot loader is going to be automatically installed into the mbr? I tried several options in the autoinst.xml but none of the konfigurations worked really.. .they don't overwrite my mbr with the correct informations. After installation the boot screen should almost look like the original of opensuse 10.2. [opensuse-autoinstall] can the exec option for suse 9 be used to run multiple commands

I noticed the initrd for SLES9 SP3 (I think that's equivlaent to Suse 9 SP2) has an exec option. I also noticed the initrd has a small cache of binaries in the /lbin directory Some are very interesting, like wget and sh Does anyone have any experience with the 'exec=' option? Can it be used to start a /lbin/sh shell to run a small script? [opensuse-autoinstall] scriptlet failed errors.

Hello, Thx for your help about my grub problem :) The autoinstallation works for ~2 weeks fine and today I rebuild without any changes the dvd and now I got for every package an installation error: ... scriptled failed ... error code 255 I'm sure the .rpms are correct since they are not altered from the original openSUSE DVD... (And it worked the days before without any error... except the bootlader issue ;-) So do you have any hints where to search for a solution? I googled a bit about this error message and it seems that this is something about the postinst scripts... but a clear error description with a hint howto fix i didn't find. Even an complete new rebuild from scratch doesn help to get rid of this error :S My guess is that I have maybe by accident altered the autoinst.xml (because this was the only file I moved into the from scratch created iso...
