hey,
i am not having the mouse issue as you are having...what generic
mouse do u set it to? ...i still think it has to be an ATI driver
issue...someone in an IRC mentioned that 3d support is messed up and
thats y i am having issues...
kyle
I switched to a generic ps/2 mouse. As for the 3d stuff, I don't really need it for what I'm doing. The browsers not refreshing on changes was messing with me. I'd never had anything like that happen. I'll try to get the ATI driver in tonight to see how the 3d stuff goes.

hello,
SuSE 9.3 x86_64
system:
Gigabyte ga-k8n ultra-9
Asus 6800 EN Nvidia pci-x video
1 GB Ocz 2-3-2-5 RAM
hd: WD 2500JD SATA (JBOD nv_sata_0)
I'm having trouble setting up the two LAN devices in
Yast network devices.
In the manual, it shows the LAN1 (Marvel) as connected
to the (faster) pci-x bus. I only want to connect a
single cable at this time. When I configure both
devices, the system rolls over: I lose SAMBA and
bootup behavior is inconsistent.
If you are going to setup both devices, what setting
do you give "device activation" in the "detailed
network settings" window? I tried hotplug for both
(bad), "at boot" for LAN1 and hotplug for LAN2 (bad).
I finally decided to disable LAN2 in the bios and
delete it in Yast Network devices. Then LAN1 is set to
activate at boot.
This solution (to disable LAN2) seems extreme. I'm
guessing I ran into trouble since at one point I gave
both devices the same settings. If I tried to change
them something wouldn't reset.
This is the first board I've setup with dual onboard
LAN -- what a head-ache.
thanks for your comments,
Mark Pryor (the one with no political ambitions)

CF,
There have been a few threads on going in the open_suse mailing lists
about the 10.0 apt sources. I've got those e-mails at home, so I'd
recommend searching the archives for them.

Subject: [suse-amd64] apt-get slow as molasses
Has anybody tried apt-get for 9.3 recently? It seems to me that it has
slowed down the past couple of months. The web site for apt-get for
SuSE does not even mention the 64-bit 9.3, let alone 10.0. Here is my
/etc/apt/sources.list file:
# Start
rpm ftp://mirrors.mathematik.uni-bielefeld.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/
SuSE/9.3-x86_64 update security rpmkeys
rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt SuSE/9.3-x86_64
kernel-of-the-day suse-projects rpmkeys base update-drpm update-prpm
update samba3 suse-people kde misc packman x-ati mozilla suser-scorot
suser-jmorris security-prpm security
rpm-src ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt SuSE/9.3-x86_64
kernel-of-the-day suse-projects rpmkeys base update-drpm update-prpm
update samba3 suse-people kde misc packman x-ati mozilla suser-scorot
suser-jmorris security-prpm security
# End
Any suggestions for faster downloads? Also, the repositories I have
declared list an update for arts, but --after a long wait-- I get an
error that the file cannot be retrieved from the repositories.

Hi,
Initally I had similar problems with SuSE 9.3 on my NX6125, however,
SuSE 10 solved the "too fast clock" problem what I had to solve
previously through a kernel patch. I'm surpeised that it does not work
on the Acer Ferrari.
Best wishes,

Here's what I started noticing. The gui is not updating/refreshing the display upon an action in the browsers (pick one). Example, I click on a link and it acts like I did nothing as long as the mouse stays still. The second the mouse moves, the whole browser window changes/updates. It'll stay on the originating page as long as I don't move the mouse. I've also seen Konqueror do the same thing when just browsing the file system. Stays the same if the mouse doesn't move.
I can use alt+f2 to launch apps (like kate), type data, and the Konqueror (or other browsers) don't update if I don't move the mouse.
So, maybe the system/gui isn't really slow. Maybe the mouse driver is the real culprit and not x.org driver as I originally speculated. I changed the mouse driver from the Synaptics touchpad to a generic PS/2 mouse and all this weirdness went away. Happy now and I won't blame ATI or the x.org drivers so quickly anymore.
Now on to trying out AppArmor and some database/web dev stuff, and getting the wireless to work.
I hope this helps the OP with his problem with his Ferrari. Oohh, carbon fiber - suhhweet.

I have foggy memories of being somewhere similar.
Are you using SATA, SCSI or PATA drives?
Can you show the contents of /boot/grub/menu.lst ?
Hi,
I am trying to update from 9.1 to 10
but I get the message
"Root is mounted at /dev/hda2 but is listed /dev/hde2"
My fstab reads:
/dev/hde2 / reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 1
/dev/hdf2 /data1 auto noauto,user 0 0
/dev/hde1 swap swap pri=42 0 0
/dev/hdf1 swap swap pri=42 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0
/dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder subfs
fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
/dev/dvdrecorder /media/dvdrecorder subfs
fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs
fs=floppyfss,procuid,nodev,nosuid,sync 0 0
This is not exactly as I had planned it, nor as 9.0 had it, but upgrade to
9.1 lead to the current setup.
SuSE 10 refered my to a portal address but there there was, of course,
the usual simple case example which did not relate to the error.
Just edit the /hde2 to read /hda2 ?
Any suggestions?
Regards,
Colin
Hi,
I've been trying to get rid of the arts server. In order to run the
ALSA-agnostic skype (closed 32-bit binary), I created the following
wrapper script, which I named 'osswrap':
# File ~/osswrap
export LD_PRELOAD=$LD_PRELOAD:/usr/lib/libaoss.so
exec $@
[ NOTE: The second command is VERY important. If I include the first
line in, say, '/etc/profile.local', the shells do weird things, as if
the $LD-PRELOAD variable takes control of everything. I am speaking
from memory here. So, I decided to go with the script. The 'exec'
command basically starts a new shell with the new $LD_PRELOAD.]
I try to invoke skype with './osswrap skype'. It almost runs --almost,
but not quite. For a couple of seconds the sound is fine but then it
goes quiet and I get the following errors:
volume_adjust: SOUND_MIXER_WRITE_IGAIN failed: Invalid argument
read error, res = -1 , handle = 39
read error, res = -1 , handle = 48
I run all this on a Compaq Presario R3240 laptop (AMD64-based, of
course), with an nVidia chipset and nVidia graphics card (the latter is
probably irrelevant here). My ~/.asoundrc file is as follows:
pcm.dsp0 {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmix"
}
pcm.dsp {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmix"
}
pcm.dsp-1 {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmix"
}
pcm.dsp1 {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmix"
}
pcm.dsp2 {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmix"
}
ctl.mixer0 {
type hw
card 0
}
(I know I may have too many devices declared, but this is what I ended
up with after many iterations. Probably most of these devices are useless.)
The reason I am trying to get away from arts is that artsdsp seems to be
inordinately slow after I installed several cryptography-related modules
via YAST (actually booting into KDE seems to have slowed down, too). I
am not sure if these newly-installed programs are the culprit; I did try
to remove the modules 'cryptoloop' and 'twofish' (which did not get
loaded before), but that did not improve things.
If I run skype "straight," that is, just invoking it via 'skype', it
runs alright, BUT it monopolizes the sound card. I am running 9.3.
Could there be something wrong with the oss emulation library?
TIA
CF
I would like to upgrade from 9.2 to 10.0. With the 9.2 I had to purchase
driverloader from linuxant. Does anyone know if Novell and 10.0 has a
64bit driver for the built in broadcom BCM4306/BCM2050 builtin wireless
adapter? I have a HP pavillion laptop with a AMD64 Athlon.
