making noise about Evergreen

Dear all! I read a lot about Evergreen on Pro-Linux. The echo their is, that Evergreen is a good thing, but it´s commit to death by almost the whole PL-community because their isn´t any "progress" seen by the users. So I ask you (and of course myself) "Why"? Evergreen is a great project and I think, it´s time to make noise about it and tell the people, what´s the benefit of openSUSE 11.1 Evergreen. I know, their´s a lot to do with the marketing on 11.4 and the development of 12.1 and the rest... Local distributors of openSUSE media

I started a thread here on this mailing list about local distributors like Sankar is doing it for India. And I thought a bit more on how to do it the best way and came up with the following proposal: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ for smaller number of DVDs: * I route requests I get to those locals that want to help * I have a "private" list of those locals * We do not advertize that we do this on the openSUSE wiki * if you want to announce that you have DVDs to some local lists, feel free to do it but let's not do this via the openSUSE Wiki. * I will have a list of shops that sell DVDs (like I asked on the marketing list) and tell people about the box product as well as these DVDs if they request smaller numbers Also for larger requests: * I can copy some of you - one person per country ideally - on incoming requests so that you can help those requesting DVDs with additional material and answer questions. The reason for all of this is that as soon as we publish in a broader form that we ship single DVDs, we/you will get overwhelmed with requests. If you have an email list of user groups in your area that you want to inform, go ahead and state the conditions on delivering the media. But having a central place where everybody can request media does not scale. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please tell me whether you agree that this is the best way forward or what we should change. We can always revisit this after some time and I'm sure we continue improving the whole process... If you want to help as local distributor, tell me off-list and I'll add you to my list - and order DVDs right away! IF you are willing to help in your country, tell me as well and I add you for requests from there so that you can help... Single DVD requests from Brazil

HI, I received a lot of requests for single DVDs from Brazil (and in smaller number from other countries) and send each and everybody a friendly email that they won't get one. Are you aware of any posting in Brasil advertising the promodvd sending? IF yes, please help stopping that. I cannot spend hours sending just friendly replies ;-(. R: I am new to the community, i want to work in Spanish translation and development, I have personally promoted basic course of events gnu / linux for new students at my university, presenting alternative openSUSE highlighting its stability and me in my personal experience with the system, from 11.0 to the current version. * What are your plans for promoting openSUSE? Please tell us what you want to do the next 6 months. R: I am the vice-president of engineering careers in computer science, in the course of the year we do many activities and promote free software alternatives, the closest is in May ("barcamp 5.0"), there'll be giving several conferences about openSUSE between topics: -Basic Concepts Software-compatibility package-use terminal-commands -installation -about the community programming-tools OpenSUSE-Games , and other more Also, among the plans evagelizard xD ... I have many contacts in college and am preparing a "openSUSE tour" in different schools, introducing the system and distributing installations DVDs, such plans would be short term. * Are you ready to start promoting openSUSE? Hello All, Please welcome Akash, He has been a great help at GNOME Asia and is very very active in the Indian Community. I had a chance to meet him and was awed by his awesome energy and the amount of dedication he put into distributing the DVDs and helping the people around him. I will post my report later this week, till then welcome him Here you will find the answer to the questionnaire  Hey Manu first off thanx for this :) ….  Now on with the questions :  1. What have u already done for openSUSE ? 1. Well I promote openSUSE of all the distros wherever I go …. I personally manually install on user's computers wherever needed … 2. I had recently conducted an open source seminar in which abt 250+ ppl had attended … and I used openSUSE for the presentation … also openSUSE was distributed at the end …. 3. Helped handle the openSUSE 'SUSE Studio' Booth at gnome Asia 2011 also help address many queries ppl had abt this distro …  2. What are your plans for promoting openSUSE ? Please tell us what u want to do in the next 6 months ? 1. Well ...we have another seminar coming up shortly so we would be promoting it more … 2. We are in phase installing all our computer labs with openSUSE … currently abt 2 labs are almost done 3. We are also going to conduct a hands on workshop on how one can use openSUSE as an everyday OS and for professional programming ... 4. Our college has an IRC channel and we r planning to bring more ppl on broad and we would continue discussions there too ….  3. Are u ready to start promoting openSUSE ? I am already promoting it :)  4. What do u think is the best kept secret of openSUSE ? The way they have achieved awesome driver support ...seriously of all the flavors only openSUSE supports all my hardware … especially the graphics drivers … considering the fact that im running 64bit …. this is truly gr8 :)  5. Why do u love to do this ? Well truly I love open source and the free software movement … I can go for hours when the topic just comes up … In the college … in my peer grp... I have always told abt its benefits and encouraged ppl to join the same …. Many ppl who didn’t like using computers much… are now having fun just playing with the various Linux distros :) I just like making ppl aware of the amazing benefits involved ….  6.How did u start with Linux/openSUSE ? What is your level of experience ? Well I started using Linux in 9th std … started off with open Solaris … just wanted to have fun with the terminal :) …. Then I experimented with various other Linux flavors …. but im happily settled with SUSE for the past 2 yrs … Now I am avid at it and do all my programming (Perl,python,C++,C#,Qt) ...solely in this distro … I have experience of mass installs in labs & advanced shell scripting also ….
