Lights, Camera, Action! (Sorry for the cross posting but I want to make sure everyone see this) Hello. This is the second call to all openSUSE Ambassadors. We are working on a video to add to the wiki and to show that we are golbal community. We did one already that was shown at OSC10, but we didn't get a lot of people as you can see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKH_MxTI-mU (Thanks Koushik Nundy for uploading this to You Tube) We want more. Here are the guide lines. 1) A video about 1 minute. Intro yourself, where you are from, and then says. I am Geeko -or- I am Lizard. Both in English and your native tounge. 2) Please use some type of marker to let me know where you begin and where you end. 3) Please check your audio before sending, we are going to add music so if you are soft or the audio is low, we won't be able to hear you. 4) If you don't have video, send me a picutre with audio. I have used OpenSuse one more times ago, and I decides return last year. I'= m very happy what I found. openSUSE Linux event in Mauritius

Hello friends, First of all a big thanks to Andreas, I received the promo DVDs on time. We had our openSUSE Linux event on UoM's campus yesterday, 30 September 2010. It was rocking and we received plenty feedback. Got students interested from faculties of management, humanities, agriculture etc...contrary to our belief that this event will attract computer science & engineering students only. Many of them are newbies, and openSUSE will be their first taste of Linux. I'm thus providing them some support through mail, will soon start and openSUSE blog here in Mauritius. I've explained them how they can get support and advice through IRC etc. I've seen that the computer labs at the University are currently using Ubuntu 10.04 and Linux Mint. I've distributed some DVDs there also. In total we've distributed some 500 DVDs on the University's campus and a few dozens among Linux enthusiasts at Indra Cybercafés. Hi there, I like the boosters weekly review so I decide to do a bimonthly review for same reasons about the status of my/Hungarian community goals. Hey, I can't get one video to work, is there away kalman you can redo your, I have no audio. Wiki mistakes and editing problem

Hello folks, Following Henne's advice, I signed up today for a Novell account and prepared to correct the broken URLs on the Wiki page: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Ambassadors There are some problems with the sign in procedure which I plan to report as soon as I find the right place to do that. Worst of all, I'm unable to 'just do it' as Henne suggests, because every time I try to edit the page, I'm told: 'Please validate your email account to login and edit the wiki.' Since I signed up one hour ago, I've successfully validated the email account twice. No idea... I'll keep waiting and trying, but my suspicion is that something is wrong. The broken URLs in question are: http://lists.opensuse.org/openSUSE-ambassadors/ http://lists.opensuse.org/openSUSE-marketing/ ...which should be changed to: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-ambassadors/ http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/ Most likely there are many other such mistakes. Probably the Wiki would benefit from a broken link checking tool either running manually or as a cronjob. One of the presenters at the conference talked about their disappointment of the Wiki, so it could be that there is a collaborative effort forming to improve it. House party report

Hello folks, This relates to applying the lessons learned from last week's conference. Event: Generic house party Date: 24 October 2010 Location: Munich 1. How many DVDs were available: 10 2. How many DVDs were given out: 10 3. How many people were at the even: 20 4a. What kind of audience attended: 4b. System administrators 4b. Mechanical engineers 4b. Landscape architects 4b. Psychologists 4b. Salespeople 4b. Managers 4b. Vorstand ...I was the only software engineer. There was no formal presentation, because this was a nontechnical party. However, I did tell the story of Konrad ZUSE and a few things about networks, business, home computing, and how OpenSUSE fits in. I was able to generate interest in OpenSUSE by deemphasizing the fact that the DVDs can be installed, and by emphasizing that they can be used in a nondestructive manner. My suggestion was: 'Keep the DVD in view next to the computer, and use it from time to time when you suspect that your installed operating system is not performing correctly.' If you'd like to know why I chose this strategy, please ask. Some people was expecting some kind of flyer about openSUSE, because sometimes I wasn't at the booth and people was needing information. 7. Will you blog about the event - and where? I'm not a blogger but actually I made some tweets. 8. Who staffed the booth? My wife, our little daughter and me. My daughter and I were dressing up openSUSE t-shirts so some people came to the booth because of that (she looked very funny) ;-) 9. Did you have a talk? Yes, I had one. 10. Which topic? open-source and free software on education. I talked about openSUSE Li-f-e. 11. Will you provide slides for others to use? Of course!!! Hello, Next month on 13th and 14th November is in Oberhausen an Linux event called OpenRheinRuhr. http://openrheinruhr.de/ Its the second edition of this event, last year it was in Bottrop and this year it will be in Oberhausen at Rheinisches Industriemuseum. openSUSE team at Xariseto.gr Free Festival-Report

At October the 3rd we participated at the xariseto Free Festival.We were placed between Greeklug and the Fedora community Project. A few words about the event: The event had everything an Free open fest could have,music,theatrical teams ,places for kids to learn through games, free coffee, free clothes,free games and any other kind of items people stopped use and wanted to give away to others instead of throwing them away as garbage,also after the event what people didn’t take the xarise to team gathered it and gave it to institutions. Our presence there: Our Community was represented by Kostas Koudaras (warlordfff) and we had with us dvd's, stickers and flyers with information about our community.We expected more people but the weather was cloudy and not many people left their houses to come at the event.We gave away around 60-70 dvd's but we talked with all 60-70 people and at least 80% showed us real interest on trying openSUSE. Also a big percentage of them were either businessman, either experienced window's user's that were looking for their getaway to Linux operating Systems and needed help for it. Also there were some site admins that asked for our help at the creation of a FOSS section at their Sites.
