[opensuse-kernel] [patch #2 0/5] scripts/sequence-patch.sh: Add some useful options

Hi all - There are a few things I do every time I expand the source tree with sequence-patch.sh. Or, rather, things I should do and forget to do a lot. The first I always remember to do: Copy the config I want to test with to my build directory. The second I forget more often than not: Expand the kABI references into my build directory. One of the things that bites me occasionally is when there are kABI changes that go un-noticed until the automated build checker flags them and sends me an email yelling at me for my carelessness. This patch adds three options to scripts/sequence-patch.sh to take care of these automatically. --build-dir=PATH allows you to specify the build directory you'll be using. It will create the directory if it doesn't exist. It defaults to $PATCH_DIR. --config=ARCH-FLAVOR allows you to specify the config you'll use. It will copy the config to your build directory. It is not a fatal error if the config does not exist. It will just not copy one. --kabi allows you to direct sequence-patch to expand the kABI references into your build directory. Since the references are arch/flavor specific, it depends on --config=ARCH-FLAVOR. It is not a fatal error if the kABI reference doesn't exist since this is always the case in the master branch. The --build-dir PATH is subject to shell expansion. It is expanded late enough in the script that most variables should be available. There are also three new variables available when --config is used: $CONFIG contains the --config contents. $CONFIG_ARCH contains the arch part of the config. $CONFIG_FLAVOR contains the flavor part. [opensuse-kernel] kernel packages and build-compare

Hi all :) kernel packages are still unfriendly to build-compare, causing us testers having to download unchanged,large binary packages on update for no reason There are two problems. 1. kernel-default.x86_64: W: file-contains-date-and-time /lib/modules/3.0.0-7-default/kernel/fs/ubifs/ubifs.ko Your file uses __DATE and __TIME__ this causes the package to rebuild when not needed It is just one remaining in the ubifs module. Dave, Thanks for the ideas, those issues have already been eliminated. I kind of am aware of the problem areas that arise and already changed them. That rules out networking. Something is definitely wrong at a very low level with disk and networking. [opensuse-kernel] Kernel Issue Blocking Deployment

Good morning all, I work for the City of Largo, Florida and we are trying to get the last push to go live with an OpenSuse 11.4 server and the GNOME desktop. Unfortunately we seem to have a low level problem that is keeping that from happening. I mentioned some of it on a recent blog post: http://davelargo.blogspot.com/2011/08/opensuse-114-woes.html The server seems to have some kind of scheduling problem and acts like a machine that is swapping, yet nothing is showing up on top and we appear to have plenty of memory. Even local disk access is slow, and the networking layer is showing lots of packets being lost. When I have about 10 users on, the machine is very fast and works as expected. When I get to about 40, it has a huge slowdown and runs poorly. With 40 users on, when I "vi /etc/hosts" it sits and blinks for 3 seconds before the file appears. Navigation is sluggish. An older server with older OpenSuse can run 200 users easily with no performance problems. The blog comments had a few tips, which I have tried with no changes in performance. It just really feels like a low level bug/problem that is not fixable by me by settings or tuning. Top shows plenty of CPU and RAM. If anyone wants to email me with tips or chat with me on the IRC, I'm logged in as dave_largo. I noticed that some newer kernels (3.0.1) are in the experimental channels, if that will resolve my issues I can certainly try and upgrade. Current kernel is: kernel-desktop-2.6.37.6-0.5.1.x86_64 Thanks in advance, right now I'm completely at a road block. Hello, My system (openSUSE 11.4) does not wake up after suspend to ram (S3). Here the commands, that work on many other systems with Asus-boards, but not on the M477T: echo 0 >/sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm date -d "now + 1 minute" +%s >/sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm s2ram -f Instead of waking up automatically after 1 minute, I must press the power button to wake up the system. It's perhaps a kernel issue, because when specifying the wake-up time directly in the bios, it works. Where could be the problem?
