SLES10 autoyast sometimes asks for CD1 after packages have been installed

Hi there, We install our SLES10 on FSC RX 200 S3 systems from the original DVD using autoyast 2 with an configuration xml file. Sometimes, after the packages have been installed and the server has rebooted suddenly yast asks for CD 1 and stops. It wants to install a package whose name we cannot determine. The DVD is mounted on the device yast is looking for it, yet it doesn't find it. The only somewhat uncommon option we use is the boot parameter "insmod=ide-generic" because without it our dvd drive will not be recognized. Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas on where to look for a solution? /My current structure looks like: /export/suse/sles10 ./ai64 ( AMD/INTEL 64 bit ) ./ppc ./x86 ( AMD/INTEL 32 bit ) and for each version i have a kernel and an initrd /tftpboot/sles10 ./initrd.ai64 ./initrd.x86 ./kernel.ai64 ./kernel.x86 For pxe boot i just link the hex-ip to the appropiate OS version. Example for Suse Linux 9.3 /tftpboot/sl93 initrd.ai64 initrd.x86 initrd.x86.auto ( Rebuild initrd for unattended installation ) kernel.ai64 kernel.x86 /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg ./0A0B0F1B -> sl93-x86.graphic.auto ./sl93-x86.graphic.auto ( Autoinstallation for SuSe 9.3 with info file in initrd ) ./sles10-ai64.graphic.default ./sles10-ai64.serial.default ./rescue cat sl93-x86.graphic.auto DEFAULT sl93 LABEL sl93 KERNEL sl93/kernel.x86 APPEND initrd=sl93/initrd.x86.auto ramdisk_size=65536 # All Autoyast parameters has been put into the xinitrd.x86.auto file implicit 0 display message prompt 1 timeout 100 hth Hajo

In fact I have added this program paragraph, but the dm-mod and the dm-snapshot pop-up message always still came up. automated setup with own kernelimage

Hi all, i need to create an automated setup with autoyast for suse 9.3 prof. systems with an non-default kernel. That means I have to build my own kernel (due to hardware needs), boot this by pxe boot and install this new kernel in phase 1 of autoyast setup instead of any kernel-package distributed with suse 9.3. What's happen until now ?? - I have the needed kernel - the PXE-boot start's successfull - autoyast start's successfull and the installation starts What's not working ?? - I can't setup my own kernel-image in phase I of autoyast setup - I added in my xml file: <kernel>kernel-ownkernel</kernel> (the needed rpm is copied in the repository and the index is new builded, but I dont see this kernel image if I search in yast by an other system, that usysy the same repository ...) Can anyone help me or has a cooking-procedure for doing this ?? thx & rgds Achim

Setup of SLES 10 in german

Hello, I have modified a autoyast.xml file for setting up a system with a german keyboard layout or a system with primary language german. I get the menus both in gnome and kde in german but the keyboard layout is still in english. After changing the xml-file I discovered, that there have to be an <x11>..</x11> section. grub install fails on md raid

i am trying to autoinstall sles10 with /boot on an md raid. autoinst profile was generated within yast from an installed system, but it fails to install grub correctly. error message shows that stage2 installation (setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2) is tried first for hd(0) , which fails, then it succeeds for hd(1,0) and hd(0,0). even when choosing the proposed ability to reconfigure grub settings and specifically choosing only the two mirrored partitions, it attempts to install also on hd(0). system itself is bootable after this, but the prompt with the message interrupts autoinstallation process. what could be the reason for this problem ? -- Rich

Where do the hwcfg- files come from?

Hi Uwe, I guess the hwcfg- files in /etc/sysconfig/hardware/ are created during the yast2 session that starts right after the first boot into the installed system. Is there a way to re-create them manually by some call to yast2, i.e., the call that autoyast uses? Or is this some internal algorithm of autoyast? My problem are diskless clients that need hwcfg-files for their hardware (like sound or firewire) and I don't know how to create them. cu, Frank -- Dipl.-Inform. where are the patterns documented

I've searched high & low, and I can't find anywhere that the patterns are documented for SLE*10. I'm getting kinda annoyed at having to play trial & error just to figure out which ones are valid, especially when the valid ones for SLED10 aren't the same for SLES10.
