Thanks for the information, Ole. A few questions. create_package_descr is used for integrating new packages into your install, correct? If I use only stock suse packaged of the CDROMs, can I skip this step? What is the boot/loader/isolinux.cat file? It is nowhere to be seen on any of my install media. I go the .iso to install with this: mkisofs -R -o ~ryan/F5linux/F5linux2.1.0.iso -b boot/loader/isolinux.bin -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table I didn't use any -c option at all. Where does the isolinux.cat file come from? What is it used for? I'm on SUSE 9.2. How to integrate SLES9 SP1

Hello, How can I integrate SLES9 SP1 to my repository without using Yast? In the SP1 release notes, there is only reference to do this using the Yast utility "Installation Server" but my repository server is an SLES8. Thanks and regards, -- Jesús González

Hi all , Thanks all for getting me started with the autoyast . Now I'm stuck at second level . Now I would like to define root password in my "autoconf.xml" itself. I have run into two problems how do I put my "package.sel" (software list) file inside autoyast. Also I'm using dhcp to give all my boxes IP . Now the problem is the dummy autoconf.xml file has eth0-id hardwired <bootproto>dhcp</bootproto> <device>eth-id-00:0d:60:14:a0:44</device> and I realise that If I try use net config on any new machines It might not work Any pointers to fix this . cheers yogesh

How to deal with autoyast bugs?

Hello Nashif, (Cc: autoinstall mailing list) sorry for mailing you directly. I am using autoyast to create an automated customized SuSE installation setup. From this, I experience a lot of (probably) bugs within the autoyast progam/process. What is the best way to deal with them? Is there a kind of bugzilla where one could look for these bugs and where I could add a new bug if I find one? Or shall I send them directly to you, or just write them to the mailing list? The latter I did in the last week, but without a good response; I still do not know if the problems I have are bugs in the autoinstall process or are just due to my limited knowledge. Also, it would be nice to feel whether one could expect to have these bugs fixed in a later version of autoyast. Could you also give me a hint where the xml file processing is done in the yast source(s)? If these problems are not too complicated, I could try to fix them myself (most seem to be just typos; see the runlevel/runlevels story) and send you (or whom?) fixes. what happened to CD tool?

With SUSE 9.0, the autoyast GUI came with a utility that would create a CD iso for you, with only the packages you need for your custom install. I can't find that utility in 9.2? Where can I get that functionality ?? I need to pare down our install packages to fit on only one CD. Thanks, Ryan

SLES 8 autoinstall - after reboot aic79xx not loaded

Yogesh, If you start YaST and go to Misc (left) Autoinstallation (right), you will be able to use YaST to capture your current system configuration and have it generate the corresponding XML for you. You can also just directly configure things in the menus and see what it does. It's very cool. I use this all the time to get snippets of XML to put into my control files. It works quite well, but the verifier option doesn't work perfectly (the .DTD files are not up-to-date). Hi , I 'm trying to figure out .. how to use autoyast for my cluster installation . Coming from Redhat I have used kickstart for doing my installations. Now is there a way when I install sles 9 a dummy autoyast file is created similar to a dummy kickstart file. Building a xml file from scratch looks pretty daunting. Any pointers . yogesh
