firstboot scripts

Has anyone had any issues regarding adding scripts to the /usr/share/firstboot/scripts directory? I have added a customization script to that directory as the doc suggests, but it never runs. There is only one small paragraph about using scripts with firstboot on page18 in the doc. Is there some other piece of the puzzle I am missing? Thanks again. missing sles-release !!!

Esteemed List, I installed production copy of SLES9 on x86 and x86_64 machines selecting 'Full installation" but the sles-release rpm which creates /etc/issue and /etc/SuSE-release files is missing on both the systems (tried with autoyast and manual installation). Even the "Detailed selection" does not have any option to select this package. Could anyone pls. suggest if I am doing anything wrong anywhere OR post-installation is the only way to install this package. Thanks, Ajay

I received 6 iso files and all of them are extracted in an nfs repository. Thanks for your response. Creating custom installation CD

I really need to build a custom CD rom for our lab. I currently have a fully working PXE install setup. This was a simple task in SuSE 9.0, but now in SuSE 9.2, the utility seems to have disappeared. The manual says only this about this subject: 7.2.2. Booting from CD-ROM ... It is also possible to create customized CD-ROMs to hold only the package you need in addition to the control file which also can be saved on the CD-ROM. This method requires creation of CD-ROMs every time you wish to change the configuration though. But how? I really need to do this! I'd copy the .rpm's and other files manually, if I knew how to generate a list of all dependencies. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Ryan

More X11 config mysteries

Hi, investigating the cause why the displaymanager sysconfig file is not written correctly, I found out some other mysteries: The reason why one cannot set sysconfig variables in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager seems to be that the X11 configuration is done after that file was written (which is a bug, IMO). Putting the whole config file /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager into the <files> section doesnt help (probably for the same reason). I could not manage to switch off the X11 configuration step; if I put <x11> <configure_x11 config:type="boolean">false</configure_x11> </x11> the configuration is done anyway (at least, the X11 config screen is displayed after reboot). I could also not manage to switch off X11 in the configuration; putting <x11> <configure_x11 config:type="boolean">true</configure_x11> <start_x11 config:type="boolean">false</start_x11> </x11> doesn't switch off the X11 start. It looks like as if the <x11> section is ignored at all in the installation process (always doing an X11 default configuration). Does the X11 configuration have a different flag than <x11>? Update installation mode for autoyast SUSE 9.2

I am trying to update an existing installation of SuSE pro. 8.2 to 9.2. It works fine when I use the 9.2 distribution CD and select "Update an existing system" in yast. In autoyast is there a way to do an update installation so that partitions and network settings are preserved. Any help is much appreciated. Bis Kanungo Catapult Communications Corp. Alright, Thanks to Ole's help, I have a bootable install CD, but it fails to install with the following error: could not set base selection "Minimal" The exact same install tree works perfectly when served across the network. This is from my autoyast.xml file: <software> <addons config:type="list"> <addon>Min</addon> </addons> <base>Minimal</base> <packages config:type="list"> After a search on the internet, somebody posting the same error and was told to remove the <addon>Min</addon> Autoyast has no effect either with that line or without. It still fails the same way! Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks, Ryan
