SLES 8 + SP3(i386) autoinstall failed when writing LILO boot sector

These days I am tyring to install SLES8 + SP3(i386) Settting up the nfs dir as told in http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/multiplesource.html Most of the autoinstall process is successful, but when it comes to stage of "Install boot manager" after all packages are installed. A popup window shows up with a message of "Error Could not write the LILO boot sector" Strangely, SLES8 + SP3 is autoinstalled successfully on opteron with almost the same procedure. Postinstall directory copy

hello, I've been looking through the list for a few days now but couldn't a solution to my problem. I am trying to copy a directory from the self made autoinstall CD to the PC. I added this in my post script: cp -r /media/cdrecorder/somefolder /opt It worked because the drive is a cd rw! But this doesn't work with other drives. Cdrom for instance. Help needed ! Thank you ~

Parameters for match_type ?

Hi list! I'm trying to tell autoyast to use a profile if the disksize is smaller than 20000 MB. As match_type I tried "smaller", but it doesn't seem to work. The same profile works if I try match_type "greater" and a size of 10 MB. So my question is: What other match_types does exist? suse 9.1 pro nfs autoyast

Hi ! Am just about to move from RedHat to Suse, -looks great so far.... I have started to setting up pxe and autoyast but I have some questions/problems. What I have done (brefly) is: cp -av <suse9.1 DVD> /export/suse91/ cp <suse9.1 DVD>/boot/loader/initrd /tftpboot/ cp <suse9.1 DVD>/boot/loader/linux /tftpboot/ rpm -Uvh syslinux-2.08-33.i586.rpm #from suse91 dvd cp /usr/share/syslinux/pxelinux.0 /tftpboot/ vi /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default (added source dir and autoinst.xml file) Started /sbin/yast2 autoyast and made selections for my client and then saved as autoinst.xml The client gets installed but : 1) I don't get graphical modus on the client during the install (only text). Looks as if it tries, but ends up with text mode. Any drivers missing somewhere (Using MSI intel i845, Hunday L50S) ? 2) Can I install a client manually from CDs/DVD, configure via yast and then save the complete configuration, and then use this file in the autoyast-process ? 3) Any documentation for setup / problems that I describe above ? Hallo Leute! ich habe ein Problem mit der Druckerinstallation: bei der automatischen Erkennung kommt folgende Meldung: 1.---->der CUPS-Deamon konnte nicht erfolgreich initialisiert werden!! danach wird folgendes angezeigt (unter HARWARE Installation Drucker) 2.---->während der Kommunikation mit dem CUPS-Server beim Speichern der Warteschlnga lp ist ein Fehler aufgetreten. Advanced partitioning scheme failure

Hey guys, I am trying to get autoyast in SLES9 to work with a fairly complex partitioning scheme and have thus far hit nothing but dead ends. I have 11 partitions, one of which is an LVM partition. I couldn't not get autoyast to create this partition scheme for me. The solution I came up with was to create the partitions a pre script. That worked nicely but now I could not get autoyast to format the partitions and create the LVM volume. Ok, why not have the pre-script handle that too. Quite easy and it works fine. Next I could not figure out how to get autoyast to accept the partitions, accept the fact that they are formated and ready for use and just mount them up. It kept trying to delete them and create /boot, / and swap. Ughh... Ok, fine, let the pre-install script take it a step further and mount everything up. Well, with everything mounted up it will complain that it can't paritino the drive, makes sense since it's mounted and gives you the 'abort', 'retry', 'continue' options. Hit continue and the install continues, instals all the packages and everything is set to go until the fstab, initrd and grub configuration are created. Again, this can be handled in the post-install script, not a problem. However, the error message is a problem. So this may not be the solution. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions at all concerning why I can't get the autoyast partitioning to do what I want?! Thanks, -Nick

Segmentation Faults after base package installation

I'm getting the following errors after the package installation steps of my autoinstall. ("Executing autoinstall scripts in the installation env") -- Segmentation fault at /mounts/instsys/use/share/YaST2/clients/ inst_finish.ycp:214 /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2: line 424: 780 Segmentation Fault y2base "$modulename" $moduleargs ncurses -- Checking /var/log/YaST2/y2log gives the following... -- clients/inst_finish.ycp:174 x11_installed: <false> clients/inst_finish.ycp:205 stopping SCR clients/inst_finish.ycp:207 SCR handle1 closed clients/inst_finish.ycp:207 There is no default SCR now clients/inst_finish.ycp:213 Restarting SCR on /mnt clients/inst_finish.ycp:214 Can't create component 'chroot=/mnt:scr' -- I don't know what is causing this, and I have even less idea how to fix it. Any suggestions on where to look next? -K

How would I setup an autoinstall that would leave the default proposal for partioning in place. (I'm looking for the cool resize capability built into the install process that allows me to easily install a dual boot config) Dustin

Autoinstall soundcard

I have a card which is autodetected by 9.1 as 'Asustek 82801EB AC'97'. There is no such card in the list to select for auto configuration. If I choose a ICH5 card from the list it doesn't work. So how do I treat hardware for autoinstall which isn't supported by the yast2 autoyast GUI ?
