Are the packages installed at installation exactly those that are specified in the selection file (using the <base> tag) plus those given by <package/>? I ask because I just finished auto-installing onto a laptop. The pcmcia package on the CD is incompatible with the laptop, so I made sure the selection file I chose, "default", didn't contain it. However, upon rebooting, the computer froze while trying to initialize the pcmcia. It turns out the package was installed even though it was specified nowhere. I queried the RPM database and no package requires pcmcia. Why did it get installed? How exactly does the autoinstall process select which packages are installed? Is there any way to ensure a certain package doesn't get installed? Thanks, Robert

Auto install from an HD

I am trying to do a disk to disk auto-install. When I dump everything into the root of the (single partition) first disk and use install: device://sda1 partition: sda1 everything works fine. Now when I move everything to a directory off of root, e.g. /linux/SuSE and use install: device://sda1/linux/SuSE it won't work Any suggestions? Thanks Ahmed

Dual Processor and scsi Raid with 8.1

I cannot seem to install SuSe 8.1 Dual processor and raid controller card. However 8.0 works fine. I spoke with Suse Tech support(not advanced) and they told me of a bug with 8.1, however I'm not able to find reference of the bug or anyway to fix it in any patches available. Does anyone have any info or can point me in the right direction to fix this? Thx -Scott

Upgrade hard-disk using autoyast? SLE8.1

Hi there I thought this would be an easy process, but I'm finding out it's not. I made a clone of my workstation using the autoinstall option of yast, so I obtained a clone.xml, and copied the tar off somewhere else. I had a single partition. I then replaced the drive for a larger one, set out the partitions as I wanted, performed a minimum install, used autoinstall to get a clone2.xml again, then pasted the partition information from clone2 into clone.xml. I put this on a floppy as autoinst.xml and started the installation process all over again. Now I thought it would use the partition information I gave it and install accordingly, but I was wrong. It took the first partition of 100M which was supposed to be for /boot, and used it as /. I suspect it didn't try to do any partitioning and simply used what was on the disk already, but ignored my custom mount points. hda2 was used as swap (as it should have been), and it then proceded to install, only to fail half way through because there wasn't sufficient space on / !!! Where am I going wrong?
