Controlfile on Disk

Hi All, I use some floppy disks to boot the autoinstallation. The Controllfile and the Sources are on a NFS-Server. Is it possible to save the controlfile to the first disk (bootdisk) instead of NFS-Server? Thanks! bye Alexander Gehrig

Ther is an articel in the German Linux-Magazin 10/2002 that explains how to build an own CD. I m using such a CD with prepared boot-paramters for installing full automated via http. The mkiso part is a liitle bit tricky because of relative and absolue pathes. The artikel isn t online until now. Here in shortform 1) copy Cd 1 to your harddisk cp -va /cdrom /tmp/SuSE-Install-CD 2) edit file isolinux.cfg 3) build a new iso (take care of the pathes) cd /tmp mkisofs -V SU -J -R -o /tmp/install_cd_image.iso -b suse/images/boot/isolinux.bin -no-emul-boo -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table SuSE-Install-CD

"Self made CD-ROMS"

Hi all, I've read the docs at http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstallation/ and they keep referring to "self made cd-roms". does anyhone have a link etc to where I can find docs on how to do this? Specificaly, I need to create a _*_BOOTABLE_*_ CDrom similar to the SUSE CD1 that will have my configured autoyast stuff. Thanks, Patrick. -- patrick

Problem with software selection

I try to install SLES8 with BootCD/NFS. Booting and partitioning (with LVM) works fine for me, but yast2 discards the package selection i made in my .xml-file. Here is an extract of the <software>-part: <software> <base>Minimal</base> <packages config:type="list"> <package>terminfo</package> <package>cpio</package> <package>cpp</package> <package>diffutils</package> <package>e2fsprogs</package> <package>ed</package> <package>eject</package> <package>sash</package> . more packages . . <package>yast2-installation</package> <package>k_smp</package> <package>autoyast2</package> </packages> </software> Even if i put only <software> <base>Minimal</base> <packages config:type="list"> <package>ssh</package> </packages> </software> or <software> <base>Minimal</base> <addons config:type="list"> <addon>LAMP</addon> </addons> <packages config:type="list"> <package>ssh</package> </packages> </software> into that part of the file, it does not work. yast seems to load all available .sel files from the nfs-source and switch to "Default System for United Linux" in the Software dialog. Is there a way to specify, that yast should only use the specified configfile / what did i do wrong? I copied the contents of all CD's into one directory (sles8_install). The contents of sles8_install are: . .. The following command successfully retrieves the installation directory from the ftp server: wget -r ftp://192.168.1.1/sles8_install The following boot options get me past the red "Error while accessing the ftp server" window. linux autoyast=floppy install=ftp://192.168.1.1/sles8_install netdevice=eth0 insmod=eepro100 HostIP=192.168.1.2 However, accepting the license agreement, and during the phase "Preparing System for Automated Installation", I get the error window: "Error while configuring software selections. Please try again!" I know the autoinst.xml file on the floppy works because I have used it to install successfully from the CD's. The sles8_install directory is a copy of the directory I used to successfully install using nfs. I have nfs discovery of the autoinst.xml file and nfs installation working now, thanks to quick response from Christoph. However, we need the option of installing from ftp, and I cannot get that to work. Here are the parameters I am using for boot options; linux autoyast=ftp://192.168.1.1/home/anonymous/autoinst.xml install=ftp://192.168.1.1/home/anonymous/sles8_install netdevice=eth0 insmod=eepro100 HostIP=192.168.1.2 where 192.168.1.1 is the ftp server, anonymous is ftp_username for vsftpd (and its home directory is the root of the anonymous ftp area--this works ftp'ing from another machine), sles8_install is the subdirectory containing the installation files, and 192.168.1.2 is an unused address on the network. Automatic NIC detection

>From the 8.1 update page yast2-network 2.6.34 "This update package fixes a problem in the automatic network interface card detection during auto-installation. If the control file contains no hardware specific information, yast2 will now fill up the missing data with information about existing hardware in the system." So, what is meant by hardware specific info? And what would the network section look like when setup for autodetect? Thanks Ahmed

Package selection

Hi! There is another really annoying thing in autoyast2, the list of packages to be installed has to include a base-package, otherwise installation will not work at all. I have now: <software> <base>Minimal</base> Problem is, that i have to install systems with sendmail rather than postfix, but i cannot remove postfix from the list of packages to be installed, it gets installed, even if not in the package list, because its part of "Minimal". Why do i have to specify a "base", when the package list in my xml-file contains ALL PACKAGES to be installed, even those from the "Minimal" base? Or ist there a way to explicitly exclude a package from installation? Well, i found out that i can change the description of the minimal base, but I got no way to modify a file on a DVD - my primary source of Installation. There should be a simpler solution other than buying a DVD-Recorder... ;-) Any hint/idea is appreciated... Wolfgang

Mh, I had a look at the documentation an found out, that ip=192.168.1.2 should be ok! I'm not sure, if you have to use a netmask and/or gateway. Maybe you can try that out. http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/8.1/html/invoking.html has all the linuxrc keywords.
