[opensuse-artwork] Suggestion for the Plymouth theme

I just upgraded to Beta 1 and it looks nice. =) Let me dodge the desktop background discussion by assuming it stays as-is... in which case I have a suggestion for the matching Plymouth splash. It looks a bit odd that there is a big geeko (from the 12.2 splash) and now a small geeko on the vine - the small geeko doesn't feel right to me, he seems to distract from the big one. Maybe for the Plymouth theme, the small geeko could be removed from the vine. Then he'd show up only for the real background. (An alternative would be to remove the vine entirely - the splash would still look good.) [opensuse-artwork] [Tech Questions]GDM/KDM theming.

Hi, all, I have two technical questions about GDM Greeter theming. I found GDM's really pool documented, the only tutorial I can use is from here: http://projects.gnome.org/gdm/docs/2.16/thememanual.html But it only tells you what the elements are and doesn't tell you how to position them. So after a few bloody trials, I made this: https://zh.opensuse.org/File:Greeter.png It explains how the positioning in GDM is like. There're still two question left: 1. what is a "flexi" mode? It sounds like "remote login things" to me. But what it is actually? I can't find anything useful on Google. 2. Can I design a "float" layout like CSS in GDM? Bruno once told me I have to specially care the userlist, because it might not be enabled. So I want to make a two column design, userlist is at the left side. and username/password is at the right side. If userlist is disabled, the username/password will automatically be centered.(one column) That is very common usage in HTML/CSS. but in GDM, I found even if the userlist is disable, GDM doesn't release the space taken. So anyone know how to do this? or how to better place userlist? [opensuse-artwork] 12.3 (and beyond) To-Do list (was Re: Regular Meetings Proposal)

Hi All, I was debating posting on the thread about regular meetings - Marcus and Bryen have successfully conveyed my feelings on the topic, but I do accept there is one thing that could be improved upon to help people contribute. So in the spirit of my other recent mailings, here is what I consider needs to be done before 12.3 is ready, with loose priorities to explain the importance of each task, and then a few other action items which I know the community has discussed. Some of these tasks may already be in progress by others, but regardless, if you feel you can do something, do it. If you do it best, it'll end up in the distribution, if you don't, you'll end up learning from the process, and that's even better! Enough talk, we've only got a few weeks before 12.3 needs to be out of the door and right now we are way behind. Where possible, I'll be including the links to the appropriate place for the work to be committed to. Good luck, and thank you! High Priority - The following tasks are essential and must be completed as soon as possible for 12.3 to be a successful release 1. Plymouth Branding - We've talked about ideas for this for 6 months, we no longer have time for further discussion, someone needs to put something together and get it into factory - and hopefully with enough time that we can perfect it afterwards https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/12.3/boot/plymouth 1a. Do we still need splashed branded for people who might not be using plymouth? if so, this needs to be done too! https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/12.3/boot/splashy 2. Grub2 branding - the rough edges in the Grub2 branding in 12.2 really earned the artwork team black marks in the eyes of many of our users, and with the exception of me, I don't think anyone on this list looked at the problem - and I was unable to resolve it without a fundamental rebranding which I considered too dramatic for a maintenance release. So lets avoid that and get Grub2 branded and in factory *now* so if similar problems appear again we can get them fixed before release this time https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/12.3/boot/grub2 3. KDM/simpledm (KDE login screen) - Given the question about which will be the default DM/login screen for KDE, we need to make sure both KDM and simpledm are branded properly. Not getting KDM 'right' was one of our harshest complaints in 12.2, lets get that fixed - https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/12.3/kdm 4. ksplash - Still 12.2 design in factory. Needs to be updated https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/12.3/ksplash-qml 4. YaST branding - Still using 12.2 design in factory. Needs to be updated. https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/12.3/yast 5. SUSEgreeter - Still using 12.2 design in factory. Needs to be updated. (Might be derived from something else as I see it in my working folder but not in github) 6. xfce splash - Still using 12.2 design in factory. Needs to be updated, or treated the same way as the application splash screens below. https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/12.3/xfce 7. Application splash screens - gimp ,libreoffice, etc - the team decided that we'd no longer be branding these packages, but no one has done the following work required to make this a viable option 7a. Altering of the relevant package dependancies in OBS and/or the openSUSE default installation patterns in https://github.com/openSUSE/patterns to make sure the -opensuse branding packages are not installed for relevant applications 7b. If we're not going to keep -opensuse branding as an option then removal of the gimp parts of the opensuse-Branding package and the build process in https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/blob/12.3/Makefile and removal of the libreoffice-opensuse branding package from Factory 8. GNOME Wallpaper changing throughout the day - If we're going to use this nice GNOME feature, someone needs to make the variations for morning/night (or other time periods if they want to get really creative) and they need to be put in the appropriate place in https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/12.3/gnome and the xml files edited as required. Alternatively 8a. Removal of the variable GNOME wallpaper from https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/blob/12.3/Makefile and appropriate changes made to the openSUSE-branding packages so GNOME has the same static default wallpaper as KDE Medium Priority - Less important, but still needs to be looked at 1. Improvements to the grow design https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/12.3 2. Tweaking of everything accomplished already and everything above once it's done to make this version of openSUSE as pretty as possible https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/12.3 3. GDM - GNOME 3's GDM is pretty much taken care of (by me) and is currently just a simple white logo ontop of the default grey+noise wallpaper every other GNOME 3 installation has - I think it actually works pretty well with our current draft of grow, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved upon if people come up with ideas. https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=gdm-branding-openSUSE&proje… 4. Packaging of alternative/additional wallpapers/designs and submission to openSUSE Factory. http://build.opensuse.org 5. If people really want to use Raster artwork as an option for core design artwork, an alternative branding makefile script to at least replicate the current functionality of the branding makefile script here will need to be made https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/blob/12.3/Makefile 2.
