[opensuse-artwork] 13.2 Branding Status Report #1

Hi all, I want to keep you all in the loop about the state of the branding-openSUSE package for 13.2, so expect a few of these emails over the coming days The story so far.. Highlights - * Dramatically smaller filesizes! The 12.3 and 13.1 design included several SVG's over 60MB in size as its 'source', with several PNG's over 11MB in size in the actual package - The new design is only 64kB in SVG format and less than 300kB in PNG format, so expect much smaller file sizes for the branding packages this time. * Default wallpaper (thanks to Zvezdana Marjanovic) * New YaST theme (thanks to Kenneth Wimer) * New Grub2 theme, inspired by the theme in the upcoming SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 release using colours from the Default Wallpaper & YaST theme A few screenshots of what we have so far can be seen here: https://sysrich.co.uk/owncloud/public.php?service=gallery&t=20ddad2f4c452ac… This new package isn't yet in Factory or Staging (it's in my home repository) However as always, all the source and assets can be found in https://github.com/openSUSE/branding Specifically the 13.2 branch https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/13.2 Contributions are WELCOME, especially changes to all of the kde related stuff which currently has NO PROGRESS (see below) as that is rather 'foreign' to me and takes me more time to put together. Please submit your changes as pull requests to the 13.2 branch in github. Status and Change Log for each component in the distro * Default wallpaper - IN PROGRESS 64kB SVG size, able to produce JPG and PNGs around 300kB in size This currently works nicely but I want to review that I'm using the most sane file formats in the various desktops. * GRUB2 - IN PROGRESS/TESTING Mostly complete, I've put together a design based on the colours from YaST and the Default Wallpaper (which themselves are based on the new marketing materials). This needs more testing before I can consider it 'complete' - Thanks to BIOSs/vid cards differences, its always fun trying to make sure things like aspect ratio detection are working properly - the logo looks 'squashed' on some of my machines, and I'm trying to make sure that's not the themes fault Oh and I also need to change the openSUSE icon that shows next to any openSUSE boot entry to white to fit in with the theme better. * yast - IN PROGRESS/TESTING I've merged all of Kenneths changes to yast into the branding package, so in theory it should be complete, but I haven't tested it yet I suspect also need to update the slideshow * gfxboot - COMPLETE gfxboot is the graphical boot shown on the DVD and/or Grub1 This is now using the same colour scheme as GRUB2 The font for the 'Welcome' text has been updated from Fifthleg to Open Sans Condensed Bold, as used in the new marketing materials * plymouth - CONCEPT No work really started on plymouth yet (though I have managed to break/remove the old theme). I have an idea to use the SVG and slowly fade-in layer after layer of the wallpaper design as the system boots, but this will need time and testing to see if its feasible. Watch this space * GNOME dynamic wallpapers - IN PROGRESS At the moment I've put in placeholders for the GNOME dynamic wallpaper (which transitions during the day/night) - I expect 13.2 will actually have a proper dynamic wallpaper this time with a slight and subtle brightness transition of the GNOME wallpaper during the day. * XFCE - IN PROGRESS The XFCE boot splash has been updated to use the new wallpaper, but I'm tempted to also change the font to fit those used in the new marketing materials * kdelibs - NO PROGRESS * kde-workspace/SUSEgreeter/sysinfo - NO PROGRESS * kdm - NO PROGRESS * ksplash-qml - NO PROGRESS * ksplashx - NO PROGRESS * libreoffice - NO PROGRESS The only work probably required here is removing libreoffice from the branding package as I believe we intend to stop branding libreoffice specifically for the distribution. [opensuse-artwork] 13.2 default wallpaper and supplementary wallpapers

Hi, listmates, I'm wondering if: 1. we have decided the default wallpaper for 13.2 ; 2. we have created a supplementary wallpapers package. If not, I can help, but I think we may need at first a wallpaper contest or something to avoid selection based on the packager's likes. There's an existing voting system depolyed on vote.suse.org.cn for the logo contest for openSUSE Asia Summit, so we can use it as infrastructure. I'm its system admin so that's not a problem from my side. We have been "promising" that for a long time since 12.2... 3. What's the codename of 13.2 will be? can any early tester give me some hints so that I can make a wallpaper from it? Marguerite
