Heya all, I'm looking for a fun slogan or picture - something that makes people laugh. Like a t-shirt saying "ROCK IS DEAD (and paper killed it)" or one of the better xkcd comics ;-) Something for a sticker, poster or a t-shirt... Any ideas? /jos

Hello my dear friends The artwork team recently had a meeting in which a couple of ideas were proposed. One of them is the Dream openSUSE Initiative. The idea behind this proposal is to have a wider understanding of what a desktop environment is for each of our users. All of us work with openSUSE and many time we tweak and change our graphical environments to fit our particular needs, we would like to know about these changes that you have made to your graphical environment under openSUSE to better determine what defaults work for our users. We are currently gathering these screenshots here http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Dreamopensuse The steps to be part of this investigative initiative are as follow Set up your computer desktop they way you want it Take a screeshot Submit your screenshot at our wiki Note: If your changes, settings or tweaks are not readily visible, show us a screenshot of your settings managers or explain the settings changes that you have made. This initiative is not about artwork as much as it is about usability among our members. Therefore, when submitting screenshots, make sure that your special usability settings are also noticeable. Hi Andi, I'm curious, what exactly is the intended goal of this initiative? If it is about changing the default settings in an effort to improve usability, how do you intend to implement any changes which are identified as necessary by this initiative? Doesn't this seem to be a little weird coming from the artwork team? To me, default settings of a desktop environment is probably something better investigated and implemented by the various maintainers of openSUSE's different environments. I really do not like the idea of KDE, GNOME, XFCE, LXDE, etc all sharing common defaults without very good reason and acceptance of all the teams involved. We have different environments for a reason, they attract different users with different needs, we should embrace those differences. I know in the GNOME team for example, we spend a lot of time discussing and collaboratively deciding on what we believe to be the best range of settings for our users, based on our own knowledge of the environment as well as user feedback. An initiative like this seems to be treading on the toes of the work already done by our GNOME, KDE, and other DE maintainers. Furthermore, some of the 'proposals' already on the wiki look like they're calling for some pretty major work (new notifications?), who do you foresee picking up and doing this sort of work? are we likely to be able to get such changes submitted upstream? FWIW, I, for one, would like to see this change. The insistence on trying to match the grub message, bootsplash & wallpaper doesn't pay off, as the limited graphic formats in the boot process always end up making muddy, ugly messes of otherwise acceptable gradients. As far as the application splashes go, I make a point of installing the upstream versions (as the suse-specific ones don't blend in once you start to customize your desktop). I would much rather see some effort put into a simple, clean, reusable grub message & bootsplash that doesn't look god-awful at 16-bits, and a nice collection of desktop wallpapers. Hi all, I could use your help for a spin I'm preparing on SUSE Studio with Cinnamon. This is what I need: * Proposals for a Logo (throw away your creativity), considering: + Text is banned on logo, just visual image; + Simple and easy on the eye, distinctive; + I would propose light green (grass like) with orange (cheerfull) * Wallpapers: + No text; + No strong shapes; + Use abstraction; + Easy on the eye; + No restrictions on colors, ideas, whatever (just no text). Logo is going to be official logo for the project (I will try to push a special Cinnamon/MATE official spin, this is early stages, and this spin will become official openSUSE IBERIA GNOME distro). The wallpapers are just as show off and to promote your teams work, as it's somehow expected that this project will get some impact outside the inner circles of openSUSE. Wouldn't it make more sense to use the 12.2 wallpaper? The current state of the 12.2 wallpaper can be found in the openSUSE art gitorious repo it isn't finished, if you want a completed design, what's wrong with the 12.1 wallpaper - which is probably the version you're currently basing your spin on anyhow. None of our projects other 'spins' - openSUSE Education, Tumbleweed, etc, have their own art direction, and I would be nervous about committing my time and effort to a side project that is yet to demonstrate user uptake. Having it's own logo makes sense and is much less work - that's the norm for our side spins, banning text however disqualifies the possibility of basing your logo on any other logo we currently have in use.. Hello openSUSE Artists As the voting process draws to an end this Saturday and the release of Milestone 1 will happen the week after that, it would be a great opportunity to make coincide the voting process' end with a meeting to work on the results. We will need to determine how to package the winning designs and also determine what derivative artwork we will need after choosing a wallpaper. It will be also a good opportunity to introduce new members of the community.
