Hello,
All seems perfect with this machine, however, it is hanging sometimes as
quickly as 1 day, and sometimes 1 week. Nothing written to syslog.
Dual Intel 2.8Ghz / Adaptec SCSI Zero Channel RAID 2010S
SuperMicro - SuperServer 6024H-8R
Motherboard - Super X6DH8-G
Pheonix Server BIOS 3 Release 6.1
Adaptec Bios v001.62
i2o block driver
I've tried default kernel from install. And compiled a 15.0, 15.8, and
15.10 kernel myself. All have same problem. I've tried desperately for
crash dump functions.
- lkcd: no patches for 2.6.13 kernels
- kdump: patch for mkinitrd no good for automatic dump capture
- mdump: no patches for suse kernels
>From what I read I thought Suse was supposed to have lkcd already built
into the source, but when I go to configure the kernel via 'make
menuconfig' I don't see an option.
Please help I'm at a loss to figure out how to stabilize this machine if I
cannot capture a dump of these crashes.

Hi list,
Got this error on suse 10.1 and was not able to login. Found this post
that fixes the problem.
> When receiving this message in SUSE 10.1 that means that in the file

Just wondering is there are any security issues with commenting out the
last 3 lines in /etc/pam.d/login?
Thanks
Rene

Hi all,
I'm running 10.1 x_86-64 on my laptop. The only gripe I have is with
certain media apps. In particular, the lack of x_86-64 builds of the
Flashplayer plugin and the windows media codecs.
So, I was wondering if it would be possible to have 64bit and 32bit
versions of the affected apps installed. They would be Firefox and
Mplayer, presumably with all their associated libraries. How complex
would that end up being?
Any comments welcome.

Hi everybody! I just received my new notebook (ASUS A6KM, Turion
MT32,1GbRam,Nvidia GeForce 7300 ...) and when i try to install any suse
64 bits version the system stops at this message:
PCI: probing pci hardware (bus 00).
I desactivate USB in BIOS and the system starts normally, but I want my
usb working !!!
With 32 bits SOs USB works and with Kubuntu 6.06 with acpi=off works, too.
Anybody knows any solution to this problem ????
Thanks for all.

Hi,
does anyone know how I can mount USB-drives in SUSE 10.1 with another
windowmangager than kde/gnome?
I?m usually running enlightenment with xfce-panel and taskbar. At time
I?m only running XFCE, waiting for enlightenment 1.7 to come.
I managed to mount the cdrom-device manually, but can?t do that for
usb-devices. There is no entry in fstab for usb.
There is an mention to use autofs, but i don?t know how to handle this.
It seems, autofs is only loaded when nfs or samba is started. I have not
found a way how to start the autofs-demon in sysconfig.
I think it?s very sad there is no (little) support for Windowmanagers
other than kde/gnome, those "wannebebetterthanwindows".
Starting always in kde to read/write on usbdevieces is no real solution.
Hi,
I installed XP (work related reasons only) on my 40 GB laptop. No problem.
I then booted with SuSe 10.1 (64 bit)
SuSe recommended re-sizing Windows and certain partitions.
I accepted all recommendations.
SuSE did well, all hardware came up properly.
SuSe installed GRUB.
Re-boot gives option of XP or SuSE.
SuSe starts up as expected.
But when I select XP the Windows splash screen appears
and things hold up for about 10 seconds and then the BIOS
starts its re-boot cycle and I get GRUB again.
Because the Windows splash screen appears it is as though
GRUB is re-directing correctly to Windows, and because it
fails I suspect that SuSe has, somehow, upset Windows (maybe
during the re-partitioning).
Any ideas?
Maybe, before I install SuSe, I need to
either (a) switch off XP's 'recovery' function
(I tried that, but it fell over)
or (b) prevent the use of a swap file (I can't find such an option)
Any ideas ?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Colin

Has the patch for libzypp for the updating 64 bit OS yet? Haven't seen it yet.
Tom
-------------------------------------
Try re-running Online-Update Configuration in YaST. Doing that set up a new
update source for me and then the libzypp update showed up all of a sudden.
I recently updated my system with the new libzypp updates. I then downloaded
and installed all of the patches that it recommended. Now, however, I
noticed my KDE screensaver has quit running. I can go to kde->configure
desktop->screensavers and select any screensaver that i want and they all
appear to work from there. I can even right-click my desktop and "lock" my
screen, and the screensaver kicks right in. However, my screensaver does not
start automatically after its designated time has lapsed. I have tried this
with and without DPMS enabled, with no luck.
Does anyone have any idea what went wrong? I'm using SuSE 10.1 with all of
the latest updates, on an AMD Athlon 64, with a NVIDIA graphics card. Its a
compaq r3000 series laptop.
Well, I changed the online update repository and I am getting libzypp
1.1.0-1.11 as the newest package. Is this correct? I am still having problems
with the update. I see many when I try to do the update and sometimes it
looks as if it does it. But when I go back in immediately to see the updates
available or reboot afterward the same ones are there. Any ideas? I added a
couple of mirrors to SMART and it says there are no interesting updates.
