Today 12:21:38 Hi, After updating kde to 3.4 (suse 9.2) i noticed that in contror center-->sound & multimedia --> Audio cds there is no more the mp3 tab, but only the ogg vorbis. Is the strange mp3 policy in suse 9.3 effected and suse 9.2? Which packeges must i intall to resolve this? I should notice than i can hear mp3.... Anyone able to get this to work properly? It keeps hanging on me when it tries to grasp an image. I was using dvdrip and just couldn't get it to work.

qlogic fc switch - can't see storage

I have tried this with 2 machines, 1 SLES9 and the other 9.2 Pro. I have a FC raid and one of the aforementioned computers hooked to a Qlogic SanBox 5200 FC switch. The switch sees both the host and the raids as online 2 Gbit, fabric. When the computer boots - when the qlogic driver loads it will see the Nexsan Ataboy raid. However I cannot see it using the Yast partitioner. Indeed, it sometimes won't even run and I have to kill the processes. Sometimes I can see the raid under the hardare info - but there is only 1 entry with a device name of /dev/sg0. There should be 2, since the raid is 3TB total it has to be partitioned into 2 luns. If I plug the raid directly into the Qlogic 2342 hba on the computer, everything works. The raid is detected as two devices and shows up as /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc. I also tried downloading the latest hba drivers from Qlogic and compiling them to no avail. I have contacted Qlogic tech support but pretty much all they had me do was run a script that collected lots of system info. I sent that to them yesterday and haven't heard back yet. Any thoughts? I don't think about an update either, because there is nothing I could update :-) Let's say it this way: In the Moment it's more or less fun to try different things with this machines :-) The 3ware is the only PCI-Hardware plugged in. iommu=noforce is IIRC one of the 'Save-Settings" boot option. But I tried more then this one. acpi=off nosmp maxcpus=1 pci=nobios pci=bios ... And as I said before FC3 is running without any problems. kernel 2.6.11-1.14_FC3. So, I think my Hardware isn't to exotic to boot linux :-) Will give SUSE 9.3 another chance tomorrow on another machine of the same type. Bis denne, Michael

Remote usage

I am still trying to find the best secure way to get into my home network from the road. In my home I have a wondows box that has a really large hard drive. I use this hme computer as storage for all kinds of files. There are times when I am on the road and I need to retrieve these files. I am using a HP AMD 64 laptop and would be using this computer to attach to the windows box for file retriveal. I need a program that will install on the windows box that will allow the laptop with a linux program installed talk to each other. I need these to be as secure as possible. I have fooled around with tightVNC but am wondering if there is something better. Thank's in advance for any input. David

Hmmmm. Not sure about the udev. I'll check. The kernel and whatever else were downloaded through the apt repositories. Those repositories clearly separate the different versions of SuSE. As for the modules compiled into the kernel, if the right modules are compiled into the kernel, than I may not need mkinitrd at all, or am I wrong? Strange errors relating to tcl and tk libraries

Hi all. I am trying to compile the latest version of scilab, Scilab-3.1-rc1 from source. The configurator seems to have trouble locating the tcl and tk libraries, which I know exist as '/usr/lib64/tcl8.4' and '/usr/lib/tk8.4' (I am running SuSE 9.2 for AMD64 and I updated them via apt for SuSE). My kernel is 2.6.11-4.
