Hello,
Installed 9.1 64 bit via ftp and updated to the latest kernel version,
2.6.5-7.145smp, but the 3Ware driver, 3w-9xxx, that loaded perfectly into
kernel 2.6.5-7.111smp, now fails. How can I get and load the kernel
2.6.5-7.111smp and not the latest kernel?
Thank you,
James
Thank you for the reply. The driver was downloaded from the 3ware site. It
worked perfectly on the 2.6.5-7.111-smp kernel and the original default
kernel that installed under 9.1 x86_64. How do I compile it to match this
newer kernel?
Thanks again.
James

You need to recompile the driver to match your kernel.

Those drivers are installed. The kernel just doesn't see the drive.
So I cheated.
I pulled the Plextor out of this machine, and stuck it in my wifes XP
machine. Win XP sees it just fine.
Then I pulled the Sony 16x Double layer DVD burner out of hers, and put
it in mine.
Linux likes the Sony.
This closes this saga. It just was not worth the hassle. ;)
Besides, the Sony is better anyway.
It would have been nice to uncover the mysteries of the Plextor, but not
this time.
I'm more concerned about the printing problem.
Thank you for the assist. I'll be getting back to you with more info on
the printer later.

sorry, doesn't ring a bell here.
I haven't worked with PCMCIA to USB bridges yet, so I do not exactly know what
to expect.
I'm just guessing now, but what you could do is to make the memory and port
ranges smaller. For a start, reduce it to the values you took from winXP
only. Nothing else.
Or you could load the module used by pcmcia for the usb bridge manually. I
don't know how it's called now, I'm not at the notebook now. Look up the name
of the module in the /etc/pcmcia/config file. (This is the way I get the
Axen / Sagem GPRS card to work.)
Then the next step would be to have a look at the PCMCIA mailing list and see
if you find something there. May be the developers can guide you through
debugging. This is not just said like that, I did find there the info which
enabled me to get the Sierra Wireless aircard working on my amd64 notebook.
Nice challenge. Good luck!

Hi!
As far as I can tell, this patch CD fixes the issue with my nvidia sata
controller (nForce 250) and built in ethernet.
BUT, since I still havent been able to scratch enough cash to get a DVD
drive, I still cannot install SuSe 9.2.
Is there a way to make it use an FTP/NFS site/dir instead of the 9.2 DVD?
I lready tried just setting the source to ftp, but that ignores the updates
on the patch CD.
Or am I missing/ignorant of something?
Thanks for all your help.
R.

Subject: [suse-amd64] [Announce] 9.2 AMD64 Install CD with New Kernel
I'm currently uploading to ftp.suse.com (will soon be also on its
mirrors) at:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/aj/PatchCD
The ISO is called:
SuSE-9.2-PatchCD-1-RC3-CD1.iso
If you have experienced installation problems with our 9.2 DVD, then
download this CD and boot from it. It will ask you then for "CD1",
and just insert the DVD at that point. During installation it will
load packages from CD1 several times...
This PatchCD has two advantages:
* Installation with a new kernel. If you had problems installing with
the DVD, please try it this way.
* All the updated packages are installed directly.
You can also download the CD and start "PatchCD" in YaST to only
install the updated packages.
Note the packages and the kernel are from before Christmas, so we have
some more updates out since then...
Hope this helps,
Andreas

All;
Okay, here's major problem #2.
Hooked to the new computer is my old reliable printer, Epson Stylus
Photo 785EPX (USB).
The computer:
Suse 9.2 AMD 64
AMD Athlon 64 3600+
ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe mobo
1 GB Corsair XMS DDR 400 memory
2x 12gb Maxtor 120gb SATA hd
Sony CD-RW DVD ide (reader)
Plextor PX-712SA DVD-RW SATA
BFG GeForce 6800 GT OC
The problem: The printer,.. doesn't.
It just does nothing.
I've tried it while booted in a different OS (the box is multi boot),
and it works just fine, so the problem is not hardware related.
If I use Yast2 to configure it, the printer is correctly identified,
which means that it IS talking to the system. The printer also shows up
correctly in hwinfo.
But when I hit "test" .. nothing comes out. At all.
I set loglevel in cups.conf to debug, and debug2 trying to capture an
error message, but there's nothing. It simply doesn't print.
I'm lost on this one.
Printing has always been a simple configuration issue in the past. This
one is just puzzling.
I'd really appreciate a hand with this.
Thanks in advance!

I am trying to compile MPlayer using the --enable-gui on an HP Pavillion
with an AMD 64 processor. When I do ./configure --enable-gui the
configure fails with
Checking for GUI ... yes
Error: X11 support required for GUI compilation.
I do have the devel rpms installed I think. Below is the part of my log
file that shows the no. What am I missing. MPlayer compiles and works
fine without the gui.
