Hello there: I'm planning to use SuSE 9.2 for my professional work and I plan to buy a Gigabyte 939 mobo with Amd64. I've been takin a look at Giga-byte website and found 2 choices: GA-K8NF-9 and GA-K8NXP-9 I was wondering if anyone is using this nForce4 mobos and the pros and cons of using them. The configuration would be as followin: AMD64 939 3200+ 1GB ram 2 SATA 160 GB hd (Maxtor-Seagate) 16x DL DVD+-R/+-RW dvd/cd drive (LG) nVidia Gforce 6600 PCIe 256MB Wireless Logitech ergo keyboard+mouse Sony 20 or 23 tft display Any commentaries or suggestions about these mobos will be appreciated, regarding any kind of info, nForce4 chipset, installing, network interface compatibility, PCIe support, anything... YOU Updates on SuSE 9.2 System

I've successfully upgraded (using the SuSE 9.2 Pro DVD) my SLES8 system to 9.2. It's nice to be cought up again, but I find that YaST Only Update does not work. It seems to be looking for SLES8 directories on the you servers, and that is obviously not what I want. xmms and libmacinput.so

I am trying to play some .ape music files (i think they called monkey audio), but all i found is the 32 bit version of the libmacinput.so, and xmms doesn't seem to be happy with it. Is out there a 64 bit version? -- Marios K. <marios_hellas_23(a)yahoo.gr>

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Well, I think I can say with confidence that the Upgrade from SLES8/AMD64 to SuSE Linux 9.2 works. The Update Installed System worked pretty well, actually, and all my major configurations were preserved. The only glitch was that it preserved a little too much YOU configuration, so the online update didn't work, still trying to update from SLES8 directory. That was easy to fix, once found out how, and the updates ran. mozilla fonts are a little weird (meaning large) but they can be tweaked by manually configuring its perception of screen resolution. The system is a Rioworks HDAMB, 3Gig SDRAM, Dual Opteron 244, and with a CD-RW *and* a DVD-RW. Video is a GeForce4 MX 440, ethernet, USB, SCSI and sound are the on-board chips. They seem to work so far, including playing DVDs w/ sound:-) (The sound had to be configured via YaST. The "upgrader" didn't pick up any sound configuration.) I was pretty nervous about doing this upgrade, and I set aside a long weekend to do it and pick up the pieces afterward, but the worry was not necessary. It only took a few hours, plus a a few hours for backups and taking notes on my current configuration in preparation for the worst. Fonts too big on 9.2

OK, so maybe this is no strictly an AMD64 issue, but I am running SuSE 9.2 on an AMD64 machine. Is that enought to make it on-topic here?-) It's actually a mozilla issue. The fonts for the menus, toolbars and messages lists are all way too big. The font size preferences Change the font used to display mail message content, but that's all. Andi mentioned: "You can't boot into SUSE because the BIOS sets up the memory or other mappings incorrectly with that option. That's a BIOS bug." How come then I can proceed with the Suse 9.1 pro install when the bios is set up to see 4GB memory? On the other hand Suse 9.2 pro install hangs with a black screen? Are you sure its not a kernel issue in Suse 9.2?

I then go to a console shell, restart the alsasound daemon, restart the X server and then everything goes fine. I downgraded to kernel 2.6.8-24 and don't have this problem. Any idea of what I can do? 9.2, arpwatch-ethercodes rpm

Installed arpwatch on my AMD64 that has SuSE 9.2. Problem is, the arpwatch-ethercodes rpm installs a /usr/share/arpwatch/ethercodes.dat file that is empty, zero bytes. Is there some special step I need to take to update this file and fill it with contents? Seems silly to install a zero byte file....
