Hello again, is somebody using an Acer Aspire 1523 WLMi with Suse-9.2 or another 64bit-Linux ? Is there any problem with compatibility for 64bit ? Does Linux support the PCMCIA-Slot ? I need it for the PCMCIA-WLAN-Card Netgear WG511T and a Memorycard. Or is there any other AMD64 notebook useable for 64bit-Linux and Solaris 10 ? Best regards Wigbert

Does anyone have experience with a mATX board? I just built a box at home with MSI K8MM-ILSR with Athlon64 3000+ in an Antec Aria. So far I'm still feeling my way through Gentoo for amd64 on it. It's not exactly smooth sailing... (Had to get development kernel to get cool'n'quiet working. Setting up Xorg was fairly tricky. I thought the day of manually configure X has long gone. Apparently no so...) If I run into one more thing I'll likely go to SUSE. I've had almost no problem with SLES8 on our Opterons. hello, does anyone know whether SuSE plans to release new RPMs for 64-bit postgreSQL now that the 8.0 version is coming out ? if not, is it safe to use the x86_64 binaries for fedora core 2, here: ftp://ftp3.de.postgresql.org/pub/Mirrors/ftp.postgresql.org/binary/v8.0.0rc… or would it be best to build from source? if building from source, should one use the redhat, fedora 1, fedora 2, or fedora 3 source rpms ? those are the only choices on the postgresql mirrors. thanks, -mathieu

problems installing Xorg

Hello. I want to install Xorg 6.8.1 on my suse 9.1 x86_64 machine as my current graphics card (ATI X800pro) is not supported, and I'm being forced to use frame buffer at 1600x1200. I have read that Xorg now supports my card so I wanted to try it out. I went to the suse download site, which directed me to ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/Xorg/Xorg-X11R6.8.1/i386/suse91. After downloading all the rpms there I did as the README says and typed rpm -Uvh *.rpm, expecting a nice clean seamless update. ;) Instead of that I received a huge list of dependency problems along the lines of: libICE.so.6()(64bit) is needed by (installed) ... libSM.so.6()(64bit) is needed by (installed)... libX11.so.6()(64bit) is needed by (installed)... libXaw.so.7()(64bit) is needed by (installed).. libXcursor.so.1()(64bit).. libXext.so.6()(64bit)... libXft.so.2()(64bit)... libXi.so.6()(64bit)... libXmu.so.6()(64bit)... libXp.so.6()(64bit)... libXpm.so.4()(64bit)... libXrandr.so.2()(64bit)... libXrender.so.1()(64bit)... libXt.so.6()(64bit)... etc ... Being an optimist I used the --nodeps and --force flags on the rpm and merrily attempted to configure xorg and start X again. I was unable to run KDE, gnome or windowmaker under the new set-up, and I don't really like the look and feel of twm. Obviously I have done something wrong, but does anyone know what? Any help will be greatfully received. Thanks, Adam.

Best video resampler/editor?

Hi Folks-- I have an MPG I made using Windows that's way too large. It's a rip from a VCR tape that I created using a Hauppauge DVR2 USB 2.0 external TV 'card'. The file is over 3Gb! I want to resample and convert it to a smaller format. Any recommendations for a Linux solution, or even an open-source Windows one? Thanks in advance :)
