SUSE freezes during large file transfer

Hello, I'm running Suse Linux 9.1 Professional. Everything runs fine without any problems until I try to copy a large amount of data (about 1 gig) either to or from the machine. It consistently freezes during this large data transfer, and I can no longer ping or get any response from the machine. Once I noticed a message on the console, at the time of the freeze: -- Message from syslogd@hostname at 2004-05-29........ Hostname kernel: invalid operand: 0000 [1] SMP -- Here are some stats on the machine: -Tyan motherboard -Dual Opteron -SCSI raid using megaraid driver -Broadcom nics using tg3 driver Can anyone help? thanks, Kevin

Via VT8237 SATA-Raid Driver problem, Suse 9.1 AMD 64-Bit

Hi there, im using the onboard Raid-Controller VIA SATA VT8237 on my MSI K8T Motherboard. To have access to the Raid-Controller i need drivers, which i have downloaded at www.viaarena.com. After downloading, i must compile the driver by using "make". 2.6.5 Linux kernels...

I've uploaded 2.6.5 AMD64 Linux kernel to ftp.suse.com/pub/people/aj/Kernel-AMD64/ The kernels contain a lot of fixes since 2.6.4, including even some backports from 2.6.6 and 2.6.6. Btw. the kernels should also work with the Nvidia driver. If you encounter problems with the kernel, please tell me directly. Application issues

I have been using SuSE 9.1 on a Dual Opteron system, and I have run into a few problems with some applications. I just want to see if these are issues experienced by others or if its something in my setup. GAIM : * cannot connect to yahoo OpenOffice : * Locks the system hard. Requires a reboot * This is not the version that SuSE ships, but one that i had downloaded and installed on an nfs share. I can try to install the SuSE supplied version on a local drive if that helps. Java Applications : * Lock the system hard, Requires a reboot * Using the latest sun JDK (1.4.2_04) and also the Blackdown 32 bit versions cause the same thing. It works fin for a while and then the system locks up and i have to press reset. * Applications tried : - eclipse M9 - oXygen XML Editor 4.0 * small java programs that i have written work fine, but then they are not long running. FVWM : * I was not able to move the windows of some java applications ( again eclipse) nor of OpenOffice. I tried the SuSE supplied version, the latest 2.5.10 version and finally got things back to normal with the 2.4.18 version. I have also installed the 32bit verson on my laptop and i haven't seen any of these problems. I know probably none of these are SuSE specific, but just want to see if other have encountered this and if they have solved the problem. My system specs : MSI K8T Master FAR mb 2 Opteron 240s 2G memory 1 SATA drive (system installed here) 1 IDE DVD-RW 2 IDE HD (work area) nVidia graphics card The system is not a dual boot. Also, the SATA drive shows up as /dev/hda. Should it be /dev/hda or /dev/sda? I haven't had any problems with the drive aside froma lot of annoying messages in the log file : hda: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } hda: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError } But i see these for all drive but the DVD-RW and from what i have read it appears i can ignore these. Java -> SQL connection

Hi List, I think its a problem of the 64bit architecture. Because I can connect to my MYSQL server via php at this 64 bit PC and the little connection-program I wrote in JAVA works perfect at my second 32Bit-PC but not with my 64Bit-PC. Did anybody connect successfully to an mysql DB with JAVA and a 64 bit computer? I attached my little program. Maybe someone can test also - maybe I made a mistake at programming ...??? tia OLI

succes! ATI with hardware 3d in 9.1

Hi list, After reading logs and using the google I got hardware 3d accelleration on my ATI 9200SE even UT2004 is playable. The problem is the dri modules suse provides. These are not the actual ones that come with the kernel. I recompiled the standard kernel with the dri from that one and all is working now. Enlightened Sound Demon - Problem "solved"

Hi, i just solved the problem with esound i posted here. I recompiled the esound package with the configure option --disable-alsa, now the esd works with OSS :-) But the esound should work with Alsa AND OpenSoundSystem without recompiling it - just have a look at the package description: >>> A multiplexing and caching sound daemon. It can utilize either ALSA or OSS for sound output. Many projects, including Enlightenment and GNOME, use esound to play and record their sounds. <<< The esound package provided by SuSE works ONLY with Alsa. SUSE 9.1 Professional Supply problem in Canada?
